FIRST! Also great chapter man throwing Flash into the mix was a wise move one thing I'm wondering is when are the rest of the Human 5 going to show up?
Moar.... so twilight broke the world with enegry weapons lol
Ugh, it's always about Twilight even when there is Sunset.
Anyways, I am having a difficult time reconciling your setting and the Equestria Girls characters. Fallout canon-wise, the Brotherhood of Steel formed a short time before the bombs dropped. Their origin location is in a base in California and it is nearly 200 years later before a chapter finds itself at the former country's capital Washington D.C. Regardless, their attitudes are too much like the 100 to 200 year old organization then one that just formed a decade ago. The Elder, even if he and his closest people were members of the original army unit that formed the Brotherhood, would see themselves as soldiers and UFE citizens first. It would be difficult to separate it, they are not first generation wastelanders or even BoS, they are last of the generation of UFE citizens and UFE Army.
I remember some conversations alluding to the fact that Elder Aegis is still beholden to the Council that I got the impression was somewhere else, but not in Canterlot. I also get the feel that Canterlot coincides more with the Capital Wasteland then the Commonwealth. So the feel is more Fallout 3 then Fallout 4, but it is still a bit fluid.
The nuclear end was less then a decade in the past, meaning the "tribals", raiders, and mercenaries in general are made up of all pre-war people. No real issues there, if it were not for the illusionary restraints of society in the forms of laws, morals, and common decency, people (even those in your brony community) would fall upon others doing whatever it took to survive, or throw in with the stronger. The minority that could retain morals, who had the capacity to care beyond themselves - not the lies that a majority put on in order to live in a civilized society - and who could survive the predations of the majority would form the communities clinging to that which was lost. So the structure you have is mostly reasonable thus far, but some of it feels far too much like the Wasteland that has had far too long to sit.
What I am getting at is that you would have Raiders who could read and write. They'd have the benefits of up to a high school education, some drop outs maybe, a lot of college graduates and the remnants of a civilized society. It would be more akin to the beginnings of a zombie apocalypse scenario then a mature Fallout scenario. People would still know how to operate surviving technology, infrastructure not destroyed would still be pristine, and there would still be people alive who would know how to maintain it. Your setting is too settled into the Wasteland already, it should still be jarring and trying for people.
Oh and if any of the Humane 5 are ghouls, then I am out. Let me know because I don't want to get any more involved in this if that is the case.
I've always liked the Brotherhood of Steel, though knowing me I always thought I'd hate them. Their methods are often rough and indoctrinated, they see the Wasteland and it's people as enemies more often than they do people who need help, and they hoard pre-war technology without wanting to share it or using it to benefit everyone.
But in-universe it's not like there isn't any merit to their actions either. The Wasteland is ruthless, often requiring you to be as hardened as steel and not letting just anyone walk in to your organization. Their control of technology ensures it's continued existence and survival as well as training it to be used for future days. And there's no doubt that power armor just makes you feel awesome while using it.
Your vision of them definitely gives me that same feel. Rough on the outside but useful and needed on the inside. Some bad eggs, but every organization has that. It would make sense that people like Flash and Redheart would join them, even with some hesitations on how the place is run. I'm eager for the next chapter, seeing how Twilight reacts to what she was told and how things will go with the Brotherhood from here on, as well as how it'll help their journey in the long run.

To borrow Twilight's catchy mannerism:

It depends on how many chapters current plot progression takes.

I am glad you like my interpretation of Brotherhood of Steel so far while I don't deviate far from Fallout lore regarding their official stance, the fact that very few years passed in this world instead of two centuries doesn't allow me to imagine them without a mixture of ideas in their ranks.

Sorry... since Twilight is the main character of EG franchise (if not taking the differences between dimensions into account) and my favourite of Mane 6, my focus passes onto her. That said, I do have a plan for a chapter dedicated mostly to Sunset, but I don't know how soon I will implement it.
Um... do you remember the circumstances under which Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout was formed?
In my story, Brotherhood has... similar origins. Not a 100% copypaste, but the founders... have reasons not to desire to affiliate with UFE and its military anymore. Plus, UFE is basically non-existent now. No one knows about any remnant of the government and the majority presumes that everyone of higher-ups had perished.
Your impression is correct. The main bunker is not even in Northern Canterlot Wastelands, where our characters are now.
When I began writing this story, I only had Fallout 3 behind me, so yes, Canterlot does coincide more with Capital Wasteland, but Canterlot Wastelands are bigger. I haven't played Fallout 4, so no certain influences from it yet.
Can you provide a specific example of the latter?
To be honest, I always thought that if our society (upon which EG society is presumably based) were to suffer Fallout-like apocalypse, it would degenerate very quickly. That example about BoS formation also mentions something similar: on October 23, apocalypse happened, on October 27, Maxson and others departed their location, and until November, they suffered numerous raider attacks.
They can, I just don't show it. Given that too few years have passed, I believed it was obvious. No offense.
Theoretically, it's possible, thanks for the suggestion. But the majority of people who had such benefits had perished in atomic flames or died because of something else, and when survival becomes a problem, that knowledge can be forgotten pretty easily.
No definite conclusion on this part yet. I am considering the possibilities right now. Why do you dislike the idea?

Yes, they executed the scientists performing the unethical experiments with FEV and announced to their chain of command that they were deserting... in a time of war... which would have been bad at any other time. What I failed to properly elucidate and well, completely flubbed was not that they still were, it is more that at the heart of the matter, at their core they still are citizen and soldiers. They choose a path to follow, but one does not just walk away from what one has been for most of their adult life nor their national identity. Esprit de corps and honor. Still, it is neither here nor their, I was speaking strictly to what should still exist at their core, not what they consciously identify with.
Well a lot of it has to do with your Brotherhood interactions with others. They really come off like they have been an isolated group, already devolved into their quasi-religious state focused on hoarding technologies, and heavily paranoid. They feel like they already have a long history when they should still be at the cusp of formation. The arrogance and mistrust can be attributed to individuals, but the entire majority seem to honestly find it surprising that the locals aren't complete barbarians reduced to rubbing two sticks together to make fire. The priority seems wrong. They should be surprised that a majority of people have backslid as much as they did as opposed to why the logical and intelligent people they have found haven't. There are others, but the BoS have really stood out in this area.
I always hate to use this card, but the writers of MLP: FiM and EqG are from the United States and Canada, so the cues for the people, society, and structure are based off of these areas. I don't know what it is like in Russia, but both Canada and the United States have compulsory education to grade 12. Even the lowest-end jobs in both countries require a minimum of a High School diploma (or equivalent), and a good job (a true career), a technical field, a military officer, etc. requires the minimum of four years of university (undergraduate) and the achievement of a Bachelors degree, with many achieving higher. With the exception of "backwoods" and rural locations, a major metropolitan area like Canterlot is going to have a vast majority of people being at some level of education with a minimum of high school. CHS and Crystal Prep are both final institutions in the compulsory educational system.
And yes, most of that can be discarded as superfluous when survival is the primary situation, but you don't forget it so easily, you just misplace it. In your setting people should still be in the stages of clinging to what they had, trying vainly to rebuild it, and looting and pillaging.
She is a neurosis riddled pile of friendship and is already at the pinnacle of her development as a character as far as MLP goes. Her only function in EqG should be to enable a character with a vast potential of development and growth like Sunset. Twilight is just a waste of the color purple, and I'm sorry you have her as a favorite.
I abhor ghouls, they make a good NPC occasionally, but they should only serve as things to absorb my ammunition. They are the one thing in the Fallout universe that grates on my logical and scientific mindset. That and I've had far too many friends and family afflicted with cancer, losing many and seeing a few survive. I would not wish such a horrible fate on anyone. So if you feel a need to go in that direction, all I ask is a simple private message so I can back out before I get cemented in to a story.
Nice filler chapter for twilight and a little bit on human twilight. And hey not all chapters have to be 10K. Also when comes to radiation one of the human 6 had to have been unlucky and turned into a ghoul. And aside from Fallout 3. Try to take some inspiration from previous fallouts 1&2 to help you. And when you do plan to play 4 i bet you'll have some fun with the game and new source materials.
Can't wait to see twilight geek out when she finds out power armor

Point taken, but they have been isolated for some time. While it allows to retain loyalty to their comrades in arms, I'm not certain about other people. And the group in Northern Wastelands has rarely, if ever, seen decent persons. Appletown is a first settlement inhabited with people Brotherhood would actually try and talk to.
That's not the impression I wanted to make. In this version of the human world, the Brotherhood is not supposed to be quasi-religious, although its members may have individual beliefs. The only thing that I took over is the phrase "May the Steel be with you", but I give it the following meaning: "May your body and your mind be as hard and unwavering as steel."
In Russia, compulsory education is from grades 1 to 9, but normally the majority chooses to go through grades 10 and 11, as they give extra knowledge which is totally important to pass the exams needed to enter university. As for the jobs, it depends. Lower-end jobs may even be occupied by people without a school diploma, if certain circumstances permit, but even having a university diploma does not guarantee a job - there is a wicked circle that employers want people with experience, but you need to find a job to have said experience. That's where personal connections play a wide role, at least in my home city.
Also, when push comes to shove, sometimes even people without special knowledge may be taken. During Great Patriotic War, when men working at factories were going to frontlines, their family members (wives and children) stood in instead, not having prior knowledge. AFAIK, it was like "press this, do that, repeat; and don't do that so this doesn't break"; in essence, they were operating machines (where applicable) without intricate knowledge of how they work. And that's how it (mostly) happens in this story.
Also: to be honest, I didn't want to make UFE 100% like the USA (either IRL or in Fallout world); there is a chance I may introduce elements based on specific parts of other countries.
It all depends on the people, but... you do raise a valid point. I'll see if I can introduce some community like this in the future.

Mostly I am inspired by New Vegas now, but yeah, probably I should take a look at Fallout or Fallout 2. But currently I am too much of a Scootaloo when it comes to hardcore of 90's
6720402
Well, she did see one, but once she sees it working... maybe
Ah, nothing like mistaken identity to make things more difficult in another world. Especially with whom's identity we speak and with the Brotherhood's interests lie.
6720936
The AP rounds and such are a nice nod to New Vegas to be sure, same with the Brotherhood being quite....disreputable amongst the general populace.
Granted When they get closer to Canterlot chances are elements of FO3 will prevail, though I did see one or two things regarding FO4 already cropping up.
Admittedly though if you want to even look at the older titles you would have to either hit up Steam, Good Ol Games, or get that special pack Gamestop is selling right now. But form my own experiences, your not missing much if you look.
Twilight would be suffering from, not an amnesia.
Oh. Oh no. This could be bad.
6836843 I agree...
I've been meaning to comment on this for a while, but haven't felt like it. Now I feel I should, so that the possibility of someone...less nice, shall we say, does is lower
Generally, people don't say "organism" when referring to their body. They say, as I just did, body.
Not sure if you didn't know, or purposely did t for some reason, I don't know. Just thought I should point it out.
