Voicemail

Twilight levitated the receiver to her ear, using magic to spin the dial without even looking at it. The phone rang nine times before going to voice mail. She huffed an impatient sigh as the message began to play.

"You've reached Fluttershy-"

"And Rarity!"

"Sorry you've caught us away from the phone, but please leave your name, number, and a brief message..."

"And we'll be sure to call you back just as soon as we can, darling."

"Can't believe I missed them." Twilight huffed, shifting the receiver over to the other ear.

"... Oh and if this is Twilight,"

"We're still on for lunch at twelve-thirty this Friday."

"Good." Twilight dumped the receiver in its holder, cutting the recorded voices of her two close friends off before the machine took her own message. "Just wanted to make sure." She checked the clock, 11:00, and pushed open the window. Spreading her wings, she took off into the sky, intent on making the next train to Ponyville so she could share lunch with the newlyweds.

There have been many stories of the mane six separating over time, it is a very realistic and all too common fear to have those that are your friends or greater leave in pursuit of their own lives, this story approaches the topic tastefully and presents information that happened before the story starts without it being forced. I like it, I love it, and I want some more of it.

To be more specific, I should have clarified that what I was thinking was a 'prequel' of sorts, to perhaps fill in how they got to the point we see in this piece.
