8208235 Yeah, Scapegrace's design was added in post, and it probably is a bit long for the moment its in, but its also placed in this surreal moment where he can look at her. And it wasn't like Tumbleweed wasn't looking....
I apologize in advance for how long the next one is. I decided to do some editing one day, and it added like 5k... whoops. Its still a good section, it just is a bit longer and probably needs a break somewhere in there. It offsets how short the next one is though.
Glad you like the humor though! Tumbleweed's brand of humor is pretty much why I wanted to write the story in the first place, so expect to see more of it throughout the adventure.

First off, it is called "Joker's Wild" for a reason. There is a comedy tag, and my username is "Shenanigans." What were you expecting? In the old games, there wasn't a perk or trait for "wild wasteland", the wasteland just was that all the time. It was a trait of the setting. Society had been all the way to the future and in one day was knocked back to every single time in history across the board, with technology displaced for wacky shenanigans.
More of a side note, but don't assume Tumbleweed is level one. Anyway, glad you are enjoying the shenanigans.
Unicorn grenades!
My apologies for being late to respond and for responding out of order. Scrolling is annoying with 50 comments on a page.

This is what I see as the appeal of a wasteland protagonist. Unlike a stable dweller, they have already experienced a lot of life. They don't have the culture shock of their labyrinth born counter parts, but they get to have a more intimate connection with the world. They know other ponies, have established relations with various groups. They have allies and enemies and all sorts of stories you don't even know about yet.

I don't think Calico is bent on destruction. She is a souped up alicorn cut off from the social lifeline she is used to, and that makes her an excellent pawn. She sees that she is powerful and hunted, so she wants to subvert that by evoking a rule over others, thinking that will protect her. She wants to rule the world. Hexerai wants to destroy the world. That's what tipped tumbleweed off.

She didn't die and she has too much charisma not to show up again. There are lots of vignettes in this arc that preview characters that have a role to play in the overall story. Savvy is a character I really enjoyed writing, and she has a very interesting purpose in Joker's Wild as a whole. So yes. We will see more of Savvy.

I'm glad to see Tumbleweed clicks with you. Its always been a frustration I've had with other stories. Not enough gusto with their protagonists, particularly with ones labelled as having high charisma. Charisma can be about manipulation, but it is also often magnetism. People are drawn to you and want to be around you. Fallout is all about attitude, so Joker's Wild is meant to exemplify that. Tumbleweed's connection with the wasteland is deep, in ways a Stable Dweller is going to have a harder time with. Its everything he's known, and he is quite fond of it.

It did, didn't it? Chapter 3.4 onward, all in high gear.

Thanks for the notes, I went and changed some of them. Also, I'm glad your thinking about Hexerai. She is a bit of a strange character. She needed tampering to happen. She knows she had opposition facing her and there were a few dangerous things that forced her to wait. She's been waiting for the opportunity.

For anyone asking the "Will we be seeing Savage Frisket again?" This is your answer.

Indeed! I'm kind of amazed you read all those chapters in one day. I'm glad you appreciated it. I'm working on chapter 5 as I write this. Its currently about 30k total and moving steady. It bugs me that it will probably be another 10,000 words, but I'll live with it. Its the finale of the arc meant to be a preview of all the different flavors of Joker's Wild to come, so this is the part most in tune with the end game of Joker's Wild. Its gotta be high powered.

I could see that. Calypto and McCree are characters that both draw from that same archetype of Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name trilogy. They are both gun toting one-liner dropping stoics.
Aw man, I caught up! I hate it when a fic is this good!

It's fine. I've just had a lot of rough dealings with nitpickers lately. I realize I am far from perfect in my grammar, but it can be very hard to catch mistakes. It is annoying when somebody focuses more on the grammar of a story on the first reading rather than the story itself. That first reading is magical and you won't have that same experience if you nitpick. The fact that you've read this far means you think something is worth reading. I am thankful for that.
