We’ve got dents and we’ve got quirks, but it’s our flaws that make us work.

And here we go with another masterpiece. :ajsmug:

You can’t just rule over someone because some mystical force deemed you good at friendship

Strange mares waiting in astral planes distributing appendages is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical magical ceremony!

Sorry, I felt that was necessary.

Anyway, a fascinating case of an alternate universe that is trying very hard to make itself less alternate. Not sure how to feel about the magic of friendship only showing up in the exceptional. After all, anyone can have friends. Still, this was quite an interesting glimpse into a different future. Thank you for it.

5870718 You get five internets.

And you're welcome. I thought it was an interesting idea to convey, what with destiny being an important part of the fabric of the MLP universe.

And yes, anyone can have friends. But not everyone can wield the magic of friendship.

'twas a pleasure working with you, Uncle.

Loved reading it then, loved reading it now.

Buckle up.
I'll have to read this for sure, this evening. ;)

This is really great! Is there more of this?

gossamer wings

I think they're supposed to be fins, like on fish. Cause, you know. Fish-horse.

“A few hundred years now.”

Wait, so if this is in the future... how much has Equestria advanced? Because in most fields of tech they only lag behind a few decades, probably even less in terms of raw science.

You can’t just rule over someone because some mystical force deemed you good at friendship—

Trees lying in caves distributing boxes is no basis for a system of government!

We recently developed mobile telephony.

Yeah, no, that's the thing. If it's been 1000 years on Earth, then it should be 1000 years on Equestria, and they are nowhere NEAR that far behind. If that were the case, then we wouldn't have half the stuff in the show that we see. Iron Will's speakers and lamps, Twilight's telescope, trains, the list goes on.

why shewon’t

SUNSET NOOOOOO!

I ended the ebb and flow of history with my siren song!

Anyone else get a 1984 vibe from this?

“I have, I do, and I will.”

The Proton Decay begs to differ.

“And I’m Sonata Dusk!”

SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER!

Now I have to figure out how to remake reality in my own image.

Good luck getting your hands on Chaos Magic.

Overall, a haunting story based on 'what if the Sirens win' and... yeah, that's pretty scary. Have a like, oh God of Fish-horses.

5870940 First of all, I'm glad you enjoyed the story!

Secondly... yeah, I was really low-balling Equestria's tech level. I just wanted to give the sense that it was less than Earth. I appear to have shot far below the mark.

And as for gossamer, it's used to refer to something light and thin, which I believe are both qualities of the Dazzlings' wings.

Once again, I appreciate that you enjoyed it despite certain inconsistencies!

Excellent Syeek!

Trees lying in caves distributing boxes is no basis for a system of government!

Hey, I get that reference! :pinkiehappy:

Another Siren masterpiece, Syeekoh.

I can see now why you were a little unsettled by their possible non-immortalness thanks to the comic. Eh, it's b-canon anyway, so we can ignore it for the sake of stories like this :pinkiehappy:

5871164 Thanks.:pinkiehappy:

And regarding the canonical veracity of the comic, it never went in to the effects that absorbing that much would have, so I think I'm in the clear.

Adagio, you foolish, foolish child. You may succeed in your desires, but you will always want more. Even with there IS no more to take, you will crave it, need it until you tear yourself apart from sheer fury. Your quest to BE shall make it so you are all there is. In the end, you will find that there is nothing but you and your thoughts. You will crumble to your knees, clutch your head, and you will cry Adagio.

I've been trying to figure out just what to say to this for three hours.

Still got nothin', man. I... I'm just gonna toss you the upvote and leave. :twilightsheepish:

5871889 Did... did I just leave you speechless?

5871892

Yes.

Seriously, though, congrats. You actually wrote the kind of story I most like to read, in the fandom I am least interested in reading it in.

Take that however you wish. :rainbowlaugh:

5871899 I'll take that with high honors.:twilightblush:

But seriously, I just wrote the kind of story I wanted to read.

5871922

Oh, of course. This is a logical extension of your last work where you first let slip your time-manipulation fetish. :raritywink:

Writing what you want to read is always the best course of action, and it shows here. A lot more energy in this one than anything you've done to date.

5871932 It's interesting you notice the energy, because I had a lot of fun writing this. Everything from Twilight and Adagio's dialogue as well as touching on concepts that really interest me like destiny as a physical force in the world of MLP and eschatology in general.

I'm glad that the pleasure I felt writing this fic bled into the reading experience.

5871466 You think Sonata couldn't save her?

Wow... that was absolutely fascinating... I'm not really sure what to make of it, to be quite honest! Loved every borderline-uncomfortable moment of it. You did a wonderful job writing the clashing of great forces, as well as the world. It really felt like a breathing world with a history and future (despite Adagio's attempts).

I can't help but think that this fic was ran by Sonic songs.

5872277 Why?

I actually listened to a lot of Hollywood Undead and Deuce while writing it, in case you were interested.

The plan of the Sirens ties with Tirek as the best, although the insane plan of NightMareMoon would have killed everything, so would have been the most destructive.

Jeez this story was amazing, and it really creeped me out how into detail adagio went into when talking about Killing twilights canterlot high friends and that for reasons left to fate apparently sunset and twilight were able to survive is there a story preceding this or is this just a stand alone thing?

Majin Syeekoh

5872757 Thanks!

So far it's just a stand alone project.

Ok, it is probably weird but whole Fanfic I was thinking "Oh come on Aria, give Adagio her toy!"

One day, you see your best friends dying in front of you while you, powerless and defeated, run away crying with your heart broken bythe actions of a monster.
A millenia after, you eat pizza with the same monster while talking about it like it was nothing but an unpleasant memory.

That´s why I dislike immortals :trixieshiftleft:

Interesting story. Like any other version of the siren's end-game, I wonder what they did about the prospect of a deaf person with a sniper rifle. They sure don't seem to have invulnerability or any other magical defenses.

I also wonder why Twilight was able to retreat back to the portal, but she left Sunset Shimmer behind. Not cool, Twilight!

5875479 Time does strange things, yeah.

5875559 Blah. Plot hole.

And Sunset Shimmer is safe on the moon with Aria at this point, so I'm sure Twilight felt justified.

5875589 That's perfectly fine, yeah.

Just PM me a link so I can post it in the description.

5875595 You know what? I respect you for calling it like it is.

But I'm not referring to when Twilight left without Sunset this time, I'm talking about when she presumably left right without Sunset right after the sirens killed the Rainbooms. Or was Twilight just not there this time, and that's why the Rainbooms lost? If so, that makes sense as a good splitting point for an AU. And immortal Sunset makes a lot of sense when combined with the fact that she is some kind of phoenix-corn.

5875607 Well I'm guessing after the 'High-Five' died, the sirens turned their attention to the others, and it was a mad dash to the portal... and Sunset didn't run fast enough.
5875595 Wait, so Sunset's safe safe up there, right? Right?:fluttercry:

Majin Syeekoh

5875607 I like to think that Sunset offered herself to Adagio for Twilight's freedom.

And yeah, phoenix-corn is awesome.

Majin Syeekoh

5875623 Yes, she's safe.

5875696 Wow, Aria's nicer than I thought when she has absolute power. Now that I think about it, the more power they regained the less hostile her arguments with Sonata became...

Crazy dark stuff.

Around mid-way through this, I recalled a convo I'd had on Skype (I think with you, or in the SA chat) about the three sirens being in a situation like this, and possible mindset/motivations or something (vague to avoid spoilers). Is this what came of the concept you were talking about all those months ago? ;) Interesting perspective with the way it turned out.

5876224 Yes, you could say that this was the result of that conversation several months ago. I'm glad you find my solution interesting.

5871977

I think Sonata has tried, and failed numerous times. Sonata has fallen into the easy out of immortality. She let herself become the ditzy bubblehead, sio she wouldn't have to think, and remember. Adagio would never stoop that far, and so will drive herself over the edge.

Or who knows, maybe, just maybe Sonata is waiting for the right time, to slide home the knife herself.

oh hey that was pretty good

That was a great story. It took me a while to figure out what was going on but once i did, the idea sort of scared me! :pinkiehappy:

This was quite nice, and I thought the various twists/reveals were clever and intriguing.

I liked it, the way the world and the sirens were portrayed, in particular.

The thing is the ending feels very inconclusive. Twilight just shrugs and goes back to her universe despite knowing Adagio is attempting to remake reality. Thumbs up but not favorited.

Wow. Took me some time to realize what was going on but once I saw that Adagio took over... damn. Great story man. I can't believe no one has spotted the Thor vs Zeus reference :rainbowwild:
