“What?” Spike asked making me shoot him a deadpan expression.
“What is it Spike?” Sweetie asked making Spike turn his attention back to the girls.
‘Just, distract the girls while I get the details on what the spiders need our help for.’
“Oh, ah, I... thought I heard something.” Spike stated before putting on the biggest ‘I’m lying’ smile I’d ever seen.
‘Remind me to teach you how to lie when we get home.’ my gaze returned to the lead spider in front of me, ‘So what do ya need done? I've got a good track record from anything involving stealing, looting, gathering items, reconnaissance, taking care of anything dangerous, and almost anything else you can think of.’
The four spiders looked to one another while I put on a good smile. Had to look professional after all. I felt like someone was watching me though, so I turned and saw Spike looking at me with a raised eyebrow, ‘What?’
‘Really?’ his expression said as the girls called him over to help with something.
‘Oh, right, I'll explain that later.’ I said before returning my eyes to the Spiders. They seemed to of finished whatever it is they were talking about, ‘So what do you need done?’
‘Our mother, she is very distressed at the moment.’ the lead spider stated.
‘Thieves broke in last night and stole what she was guarding.’ another spider spoke up, ‘She's angry, very angry.’
‘She's retreated into the caverns beneath the forest. Not safe down there for any except her.’ the third spider said.
‘She yelled things, plans of what she would do to the ponies who broke in. Terrible things of what would happen to those that got in her way.’ the last spider said, as a cold chill began to grip my heart.
‘We fear for the safety of the ponies in the town by the forest's edge. That is where the thieves went, it is where she will go as well.’ the leader finished.
‘Ponyville...’ I cut off power to my eyes to think to myself, ‘First quest and already tackling lifesaving scenarios.’
“What!?” Spike exclaimed making me turn around. The crusaders were nowhere to be seen, but Spike was looking at me with shock and wide eyes, “Whose life is in danger!?”
‘Uh... no one. No one is actually in danger, just... That it's a situation where someone could be in danger. Understand?’
He blinked at me a few times and scratched his head, “Not really...”
‘Okay I'll explain what's going on later, right now I got to get the quest details from them.’ I motioned my paw towards the spiders, ‘Why don't you go and check on the crusaders?’
Spike opened his mouth to reply before there was a loud crash from the other room the hole in the wall lead to, drawing our attention, “Scootaloo watch your wings, that could’ve crushed somepony!”
“...” Spike and I look to one another, “I’m fine here.” another nod from me before I turned my attention to the spiders.
‘Okay, what do I need to do to stop her?’
‘There are two ways to stop her, but you can not kill her.’ the lead spider said.
‘I know that she's your mother, but if Ponyville is in danger I will stop her.’ I stated.
“What?” Spike asked, more confused than worried.
Ignoring him, I listened to the lead spider, ‘No, she is immortal. You can not kill her. If you are able to hurt her enough though, she will either run away and rest to heal her wounds, or fight till she can no longer move.’
With a roll of my eyes and an annoyed sigh I thought, 'Of course she's immortal. The moment I get immortality everyone get's it too.'
"What?" Spike asked again with even more confusion.
‘I'll explain later.' I turned back to the leader, 'Okay, so all I have to do is fight her and calm her down. where's the entrance to the caverns?’ I stated, anticipation for my first fight running through my mind.
‘The entrance is in the room behind you, but-’ it was at this point I could no longer wait. I took off through the hole in the wall with a smile plastered on my muzzle.
‘Spike watch the girls, I'll be back in a little bit.’ I called out as I left him behind. He was still too young to help with the fighting and this fight, ‘This fight will be one to remember, I can feel it.’
“What do you think this does?” Apple Bloom ask as I ran behind them and towards the back wall.
‘Spike can handle it...’ I thought to myself as I ran the length of the back wall looking- the floor gave out under me, making me yowl in surprise. Dirt was all I could see as I tumbled down the steep incline that I had stumbled across.
‘That's one way to find a tunnel.' a puff of air left my muzzle stirring up dirt and drawing my attention to the cavern.
“Did yall hear that?” Apple Blooms voice rang from above.
“Sounded like Scruffy!” Sweetie Belle stated in a worried sounding voice.
“Alright girls, spread out and look for him. We’ll figure out what this thing does later.” Scootaloo said as the sound of hooves on stone reached my ears.
‘I got to take care of this spider before they find this tunnel.’ back on my paws I was about to take off down the tunnel when I heard Spike’s worried voice.
“Scruffy! Scruffy! Have you girls seen Scruffy!?”
“No, we just heard him a second ago though. We’re looking for him now.” Scootaloo answered.
“Oh, not good, not good, not good. I’ve got something really important to tell him!” Spike stated as I heard his clawed feet starting to run around.
“What would somepony have to tell a cat?” Apple Bloom asked make Spike stop running around from what I could hear.
“Oh, I... I have to tell him it’s time for us to go back and get him some food.” there was no doubt in my mind he had that big ‘I’m lying’ smile on again.
I shook my head, but thought nothing of what they had said in case Spike could still hear me. With a smirk I took off down into the caverns. I had some spider hunting to do and not a lot of time to do it in.
umm sorry this story is getting a little off topic it seems. Also, he seems almost too excited to get a quest and go fight something. Anyway you might want to think about adding a random tag if you keep this up.
6093713
Thats... not what the random tag is for.
If the plot started to follow the non-sensical musings of a dwarf on acid with a fetish for tomatoes, or any other completely non-sensical, 'random', thing, including memes, then it would be qualified for a random tag. Having a main protagonist that's so eager for a battle that he ignores advice is much more deserving of a comedy tag because cause and effect still work.

Scruffy and the gang are just dealing with the fallout of the thieves. One of which has been confirmed as a pony that gave Scruffy the chilling feeling whenever they got near. He's also been wanting to fight since a few chapters ago and since it was established that a great fight was one of the few things that he could actively remember I felt that his rush to his first fight was justified.
Looks like he is quite bored and jumped at the "fighting" option.
6093814 I'm just saying he sounds like a video gamer instead of a dimension traveler. I guess we just don't have enough back story on him for a solid character yet. A dimension hopper could literal have any personalty and past in the multi-universe. So maybe I just put too much stock in how he acted a couple of chapters ago and now his memory is starting to return he settling into a character different then what I guessed. Anyway I'm just a little put off by his constant video game logic.

Nothing sounds like a dimension traveler, because that isn't a thing that exists. An explorer or traveler is the closest thing, and I could imagine that someone that saw new things all the time could easily get bored, just like a gamer. Do you think the brain reacts completely differently because one person views their travels through a computer screen? If that were true and we didn't treat the experiences similarly, then games simply wouldn't sell. But then you must ask how similarly are the experiences treated, and cognitive science suggests that only on the highest levels of thinking do we realize that the image is on a screen and not real. (For example, a cat has a more primitive brain, and if you place a cat in front of a TV screen, it may swat at things that move, depending on the frame rate and brightness settings.) In addition, I can discern no difference in the personalities of elite gamers and of athletes I have heard of and met. Thus, there is no reason why a traveler wouldn't act exactly the same as a gamer.
You also make assumptions about dimension hopping, a thing that doesn't exist, causing different personalities. This is a tautology.
Him not acting like he did a few chapters ago is more legitimate concern, but I don't think it indicates anything related to the story. Characters act differently as time passes. People can get grumpy when they're tired, and restless when they're bored.
6094269 Being a traveler and a gamer are 2 completely different things. In all aspects being a traveler is more real and waaaay more intense then being a gamer. Things that someone would do in a game they'd never do in life for various reasons. Sensation, taste, smell, even sight and hearing are different in life then they are in games. 3 of the main senses aren't even used while gaming. It's the difference between seeing a corpse in a game and seeing, touching, smelling, even hearing one in real life. If you truly put yourself in the shoes of the characters you create you'd act vastly different then them and what you might think you'd do. Gaming is far to restrictive a thing for it to cover any near all the aspects of life. In the end, games are made by people and people can only cover so many aspects of life in a game. You could spend your whole life making game and still not get every little hing down. You'd have to develop a reply to every single response to everything that could happen. Even talking to a single character can generate thousands of potential conversations. Also I doubt anyone could really get 'bored' with dimensional traveling. Do you even now what it is to be a traveler you LIVE for the new sights, sounds, smells, and tastes it's the reason you travel. I don't even know where your coming from with elite gamers and athletes. Of course they are gonna be similar. They are people who put almost all their time and effort into something they deem worthy and pursue that goal with an intensity only found in their peers.
Dimension hopping doesn't exist but if it did I'd think that some of those other dimensions would have hoppers as well and those beings can be absolutely different or disturbingly similar literally any possibility you can think of. The author hasn't told us much about the character's past so he could very well be a fighter in some guild or arena at one point and that could've had a big impact on him.

You disprove gaming being able to match reality completely, but that was never my argument. My argument was that it matches enough to generate similar mannerisms and responses, and by similar argument, simulations of adventures would generate the same manerisms as actual adventures. Nothing short of a case study of gamers vs athletes, or whoever you choose to compare them with, of many categories would disprove that. And you were also comparing how gamers act in games vs how athletes act in real life, which invalidates some of your arguments.
If you're talking about a completely fictional concept, at least talk about similar fictions and not reality. Besides, you're abstracting things from your memory and applying them to something that, because it is so largely undefined, is astronomically more likely to not match your one, very specific description.
6094590 just re read that chapter and i miss red the line whaere he talked about the last 2 ponies whatever thoe the mesage still got acrose and the story still makes seance
So, the important information was how to actually defeat the spider queen. Or something. This is going to be fun
That should be "feel".
Noes, I caught up with the story! How will I be able to wait to see Scruffy fighting Arachne? (I'm just guessing Arachne, a female giant spider that is immortal? Yeah, sounds like Arachne.)
That's not what tautology means.
6097385
I think you forgot to link the comment you're replying to. I was searching the chapter for a minute or so trying to figure out where I wrote that at.
6097789
Yeah, that was supposed to be a reply to ArtichokeLust
6097801
No harm done. It was a good laugh if anything.
6097385
A tautology is a statement that is always true because of its logical form. And if dimension hopping existing is set to false, which it should be because there is no record of dimension hopping in history, then the statement becomes F -> Q. Then, any argument based on the existence of dimension hopping would be vacuously true.
Though, I couldn't find a rule that says whether to set the variable to F when it is obviously false or only when it is a contradiction.
6098493
Ah, I'm thinking tautology in the grammar/rhetoric sense (since we're taking about a story), not the formal logic sense
6098630
Ah, that makes sense. I always go for the formal logic stuff.
Eggs, gotta be eggs that she was guarding......
6097285 Yeah that name would make sense, although she could also be named after the spider from Legend of Zelda. (Who was intelligent enough to adopt some deku scrubs in Ocarina of Time.) Scruffy will probably have his work cut out for him if the multiverse decides to play a nasty joke on him and it is one of the spider bosses from Legend of Zelda, ya know because, dimension hopping.
Something is telling me the cat didn't get all the Quest Details
6102487 What, are they preparing for a pranky Easter?
How do you think about not thinking about something?!
HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORK?
'SIGH' I had some expectations for the main protagonist of this story and then you go and make him an idiot.
Well this made me cringe in bad way.
