Princess Celestia, the normally pristine, just mare has a dark secret: She believes that the only way for the help with the apple produce industry in southern Equestria: Slaves, specifically Earth Ponies.

Her sister Luna, however, feels very strongly against this, and decides that they must split up. Equestria is separated into two parts: North and South. Twilight Sparkle, Celestia's loyal student, joins her as for she believes in what her teacher thinks. But her friends think otherwise, and join Luna to fight the malicious ponies and liberate the enslaved. But, how will they pull it off? Will it happen with justice and grace? Or distort into a bloody civil war with no end?

An allegory of one of the most infamous conflicts in history: The American Civil War

Also, I'll admit that I'm being a bit ironic by putting Applejack in the cover as she is captured for slavery.

While, you could say that it's hypocrisy, I'm doing it merely because it was the only MLP/Civil War crossover picture I could find, and, since my artistic abilities are severely lacking, I chose that.

confederate pony?

Seems alright.

There were a few instances at Applejack's scene where two lines from different ponies were in the same sequence. Other than that, a nice start. I particularly enjoy the history of the Civil War. Heck, I even do some of the reenactments!

So, you've caught my interest. Have a like and a track.

I wonder how the non earth ponies of the mane six will react to their friend being taken away.:raritydespair:

:raritywink:Long Live the Confederacy!:ajsmug:
Haha, Irony. Oh, and Long Live Tyrant Celestia!:trollestia:

Have you by chance read anything by Harry Turtledove? Specifically, Guns of the South?

Actually, no I haven't, what's it about?

" She believes that the only way for the help with the apple produce industry in southern Equestria: Slaves, specifically Earth Ponies. "

Or, you know, she could use her god-like alicorn powers to make the trees grow, and then pick all the apples at once, in like, 10 seconds flat.

You know? You express a valid point, however, what if she doesn't have the energy to perform such a task, hm? It's a fanfiction, you can do whatever the hell you want...

Twilight Sparkle FOR SLAVERY?

MADNESS!

Alternate history. A group of soldiers from the year 2014 show up in 1864 offering to give Robert E Lee's soldiers AK-47s and training. Basically, the South wins the Civil War, but things get interesting regarding the continuance of slavery, etc.

He's written some really good alternate history books. My favorite is the series where there's an alien invasion during the early stages of WW 2.

Also, keep in mind that the Civil War was fought because the south wanted their own country as well, and that the north wanted to keep the U.S. unified. Not just slavery. I wonder if that will play a part here as well...

Good work, and continue on!

Silver out!

537150 I remember the colonization series

I love it. Please continue. Are muskets gonna show up or just spears and bows?

If earth ponies are "slaves" then why is AJ in grey? Assuming she is a "free" pony that is. If she was a slave pony than it is entirely plausible for her to be in grey as many plantation owners sent their slaves to fight the war for them.

And secondly, DO YOUR RESEARCH. To get an understanding of the Civil war, you have to have an understanding of the history predating it. Slavery only became the "Uncle Tom's Cabin"esque type slavery in 1830s and 40s when the plantation owners no longer had direct contact with their slaves- which was directly linked to westward expansion. Before then slaves were treated extremely well- more of what we would think of as a servant or perhaps indentured servant than a slave. Furthermore, there was never a point in history where there WAS no slavery in America. Many of the Founding Fathers including but not limited to Thomas Jefferson and George Washington owned slaves. Beyond that, for at least twenty years predating the war there was no importation of slaves- only "breeding" of them. While I understand that some liberties must be taken for the sake of the story, there is a difference between artistic license and downright misinformation.

Pardon the pun, but the American Civil War was ANYTHING but "black and white".

For example- did you know that in 1860 there were about 500,000 slaves in the Union? And that the "Emancipation Proclamation" ONLY freed slaves in the Confederacy? Or that less than 30% of southerner's owned a single slave, let a lone dozens? The war was about far more than human/states rights. It was about the entire lively hood of half of the country- the South was the primary cotton supplier for the entire world at this point in time.

The history that is accepted and what actually happened are two very different things.

The reason why there's a confederate Applejack is because I couldn't find any other Civil War-MLP picture to us.

And I know about the history, but I couldn't completely alter the timeline, I have to let things flow.

The idea is good, but Celestia's characterization is way off. I mean, one minute she's a loving and caring ruler and then the next she's an evil pycho bent on slavery? :unsuresweetie: That's kind of weird and to quick a change. I would say Celestia would spend much time debating with herself over the matter before being consumed by her evil side and allowing slavery.

I gotta admit the Civil War always interested me, even though I'm from Europe. I was also a big fan of the really old North vs. South videogames when I was real young.

Any chance we'll see Zecora in this story too? :scootangel:
