    Entry 4: Least Favorite Ponies

And this is the entry where I risk vilifying myself in this fandom.

Many bronies have a favorite pony to call their own. Quite a few less have any ‘least favorite’ ponies.

    I have two.

    Bon-Bon, and Prince Blueblood.

Now, while I note quite a few others with similar distaste for Blueblood, there are quite a few out there who view him with some amount of sympathy. I believe that their argument for Blueblood’s character goes something like this:

‘But Rarity was being shallow! Blueblood’s not a jerk just because he trolled her when she pursued an ideal instead of him!’

For those who continue to pursue the ridiculous argument that Blueblood is actually not that bad a pony – arguments that repeatedly rely on Rarity to prove the point instead of Blueblood himself – I offer this proof.

Blueblood has – literally – more resources than Batman.

Both are good looking, and well built.

    Blueblood still has living relatives.

Batman has Alfred. – Blueblood has Celestia.

Batman has a utility belt that can do anything. – Blueblood has magic that can do more.

Batman’s extremely wealthy in Gotham. – Blueblood’s extremely wealthy in an economy that uses priceless gemstones to gild dresses.

Batman had access to the world’s finest martial artists. – Blueblood has access to the world’s finest everything, including a library where a unicorn can learn to travel through time, all the knowledge of the Spirit of the Sun, and if Rainbow Dash is any indication, Equestria has martial artists too.

Batman has trophies of his victories in his cave. – Blueblood has the God of Chaos as a lawn ornament.

Honestly, this is like one of those arguments over Iron-man and Batman, where the arguer points out a list of aspects where Iron-man is better, and even though they’re absolutely right Batman is still better!

Only instead of Iron-man, we get Prince. Frothing. Hate. Jerk. Blueblood.

Where was Blueblood during Equestria’s crises? Where was Blueblood when literally anything was happening? I realize Batman is a tough standard to hold anyone to, but if Blueblood were anything like a good pony he would have used his assets (his incredible assets) to do something. Anything!

Some people would argue that Blueblood was being like Batman – or at least James Bond. That he was working in secret to save Equestria during all of these challenges, fighting evil cults or some such rubbish.

Well even if that were true, he’s doing a lousy job of it. Twilight and her friends solved literally every problem Equestria’s had for… two, three years? Imagine, if you will, the kind of havoc Pinkie Pie alone would wreak on any secret cult she’s put up against, but combined with Twilight, Rarity, and Fluttershy? If Blueblood actually was doing secret hero work, then why wouldn’t Celestia report the dangers to her student and watch the fireworks?

So, either Prince Blueblood is a callous entitled jerkface pony… or he’s an incompetent secret agent who is ruining Princess Celestia’s empire because the myriad secret organizations plotting her downfall that Equestria are apparently teeming with are giving him the runaround… or it’s a combination of the two and Celestia lets him think he’s a secret agent to keep his arrogance down to a subtler level and keep him out of her mane…

    Or he’s secretly a changeling!

    Dun dun DUUUHHHNN!!!

There’s a reason why Blueblood’s cutie mark is a single, ornate looking star, in the midst of blank white nothingness. If Blueblood were a good pony, if he were an o.k. dude by any stretch of the imagination, he would have better things to do than troll Rarity. I don’t care how unwanted an admirer is, if any of my friends treated a lady that way ‘just to teach her a lesson’ they would very soon cease to be my friends.

    As for Bon-Bon…

    A lot of the people here like Bon-Bon. I just… I just don’t.

I mean, why is she even a thing?

When you look at a list of the top six background ponies people love, you’ll see Doctor Whooves, Derpy, Octavia, Vynil Scratch, Lyra Heartstrings, and… Bon-bon.

I guess I just haven’t read any good fanfiction about her.

I mean, I wasn’t a fan of Octavia or Lyra either until I read the appropriate stories. More on them later.

But Bon-bon… never. She only ever seems to enter a story as the straight-mare to Lyra’s eccentric. And what’s with that?

Must every Sherlock have a Watson? Just once, I’d like to see and eccentric, whose sidekick is an eccentric of a different sort. And even despite my feelings about that particular dynamic, at least Sherlock and Watson have an interesting dynamic. Much like Abbott and Costello. The purpose of the eccentric/mundane pairing is to employ opportunities for witty banter.

Bon-bon is not like that. I’ve never read a fanfic where she gets any witty banter.  Instead, she’s like the Tonto to Lyra’s Lone Ranger. In the original series that is, not the new version where Johnny Depp is Tonto. Now that is how you give an eccentric another eccentric as a sidekick.

Or else she’s Lyra’s lover, and the pair of them together must combat against the turmoil and pressure and sometimes hatred that their fellow ponies have against lesbians.

Either way, Bon-bon is… uninteresting, at best. She’s like someone who would exist in the real world, instead of a fictional character. If anybody can point me in the way of a fic that gives Bon-bon any defining character, that’d be swell. I consider myself an intelligent person, capable of seeing multiple sides in any issue. But Bon-Bon is one of those cases where my brain just flies out the window and says; “I’m sorry, why would you even bother looking at this particular issue? I don’t understand it, and even if I did, it wouldn’t matter, so why bother trying?” I hate my brain when it acts like this, but really, I can’t refute that logic.

    Anyway, as to shipping Blueblood:

Rarity: Okay, no. This has been officially debunked. Anyone who wants to ship this, you’re too late, canon has officially spat in your faces.

Trixie: Pairing two villains, both of whom have egos the size of planets. Yeah, there’s no way that could go wrong.

Twilight: I believe the logic behind this pairing is as follows; Twilight’s lived in the palace her whole life, so she must know Blueblood. She didn’t warn Rarity about Blueblood, so she must have thought Blueblood is okay. Therefore, Blueblood must be a misunderstood stallion, and only Twilight his childhood friend, can bring out his soft, sensitive, loving side. To this, I can only say; Lauren Faust must have bought herself a coffin, specifically so she could roll in it ahead of schedule.

Blueblood. Or would that be, BluebloodxBlueblood. Or perhaps, BlueBlue? BloodBlood? Yes, I ship BloodBlood. Well, really, who else would you ship Blueblood with besides himself?

    As for Bon-Bon shipping:

Lyra: Sure. I don’t see why not. They’re practically a canon couple anyway in fanfiction.

Big Mac: Sure, I don’t see why not.

Twilight: Sure, I don’t see why not.

Rainbow Dash: Nope. Nopity nopity nope. Rainbow Dash is way too awesome for Bon-Bon.

Applejack: Sure, I don’t see why not.

Rarity: Sure, I don’t see why not.

Pinkie Pie: Sure, I don’t see why not.

Fluttershy: I can’t even see this. It’s like my mind is purposefully blanking out any images of the two of them going on a date. No, wait, I’ve come up with an image! Bon-Bon enthusiastically pursuing Fluttershy with as much candy as she can carry, while Fluttershy runs as fast as she can!

Celestia: I think they must bond over their love of cake and lack of screentime.

Anyway, I don't have any favorite fics for Bon-Bon. My favorite fics for Blueblood are: The Best Night Ever which holds the distinction of giving Rarity a reason behind her flirtations, and My Little Avengers which makes Blueblood into Iron-Man (Batman is still better). Both of them are great, because they don't try to hide the fact that Blueblood is a jerk. They simply have him change, over the course of the story, and even at the end they still have trouble with their manners despite their dramatic changes.

Okay, so I just uploaded a new chapter of The Three Seasons. But I think something went wrong somehow, and nobody seems to have got the notification. Probably something to do with accidentally double-clicking the Publish button, causing it to be published, and then immediately unpublished. And then again, until I realized what was happening and single-clicked. So embarrassing. Anyway, for those who didn't get the memo; it has been updated. Consider yourselves notified.

    Entry 3: Twilight Sparkle

    Twilight Sparkle.

By no means the rarest of the ponies to see in fanfiction. There are a variety of ways to write Twilight Sparkle; a Mary Sue, an Alicorn, an asocial clutz, a duex ex machina that needs to be on the sideline until the plot gets solved, and more.

My favorite non-ship Twilight fics are; A Simpler Time, Petriculture and it's sequels, Nyx's family and it's prequels, and A Teatime Visit,

So how does one write a Twilight Sparkle?

Let us start by examining Twilight’s power; she’s basically the most powerful unicorn ever. If she even sees a spell demonstrated to her once, she can copy it. If she reads about a spell, she can cast it. What stops Twilight from being a Mary Sue is her inability to perform well physically, and her awkward social graces. Of course, given the personal growth she’s experienced, it could be excused if those last two features did not make it into an Adventure story. But if your story does not have the Adventure tag, Twilight should not be an unstoppable force of omnipotent magickes.

Regarding the imagination of Twilight Sparkle, there has been some debate. Compare and contrast how she problem solves in the first and third season openers. In the first, she can barely get through Nightmare Moon’s lamest obstacles, needing five other ponies to help her, among other things, not be scared, calm a moustache lover, and make a bridge. In the third season, she finds the Crystal Heart all on her own, needs only the slightest help from an outside observer to get past one obstacle, obliterates another obstacle, and then finds an imaginative way to effortlessly bypass a potentially time-wasting and strength-exhausting obstacle.

Twilight, in the beginning, had little imagination and could only solve problems via reading about the best way to solve a problem. However, she has grown beyond that, and is very adept at improvising. An ideal scenario for Twilight would, ironically, be something she’s never read of before. She can improvise quite well faced with a new challenge, but when faced with a challenge she’s red up on and is confident about, she will go with the solution offered in the book, and then should that not work she will flail about until one of her friends snaps her out of it.

Regarding her Element; I believe that Twilight’s Element of Friendship does not reference her ability to make friends anywhen and anywhere. As shown in Canterlot, she is actually rather anti-social. However, I believe her element came to her because of the fundamental nature of Friendship being a Two-Way street. She could never make friends in Canterlot; there are too many ponies there who would use her as a status symbol, or to catch the ear of the Princess. In Ponyville, others are willing to be friends with her, so she is willing to be friends with them. She is so devoted to the truth, to uncovering the underlying nature of things, so much so that she could have been the Element of Truth. This need to discover the truth is the reason she is anti-social, and the Element of Friendship at the same time. She selects her friends like she selects her books; the boring ones she sets aside, but the ones filled with knowledge and wisdom she devours greedily. That is the true spirit of friendship; like a good book, you want to read over and over again, each time being surprised at new information you missed, or a comforting favorite phrase.

Anypony else would wear themselves out with as good a friend as Twilight Sparkle.

As for the romance; I am generally opposed to girl on girl romance, however. For My Little Pony I make an exception. Because so many of its characters are interesting, unique, well developed, and it would be a waste just to make up a guy who acted exactly like one of the Mane Six. I have little patience for lesbians, but I have even less patience for pointless, scenery chewing, half-witted OCs.

In terms of romance for Twilight. I think that Twilight’s ideal pairing should be somepony with a lot of common sense. A guy who can take things calmly and rationally, without exploding into chaos. Brainpower isn’t really the issue; Twilight’s friends with Rainbow Dash after all. No need to look for a bookworm, just someone with common sense.

Opposites attracting is also the most viable method of finding Twilight a date, as any pony as introverted as Twilight is would not be able to strike up any sort of relationship with her, and she herself couldn’t be bothered. She’s the element of friendship, but she still needs a match who will have the skills to be friends with her. Definitely someone funny, or someone who is similarly intelligent but in a different field than.

The Ballad of Twilight Sparkle is an appalling shipfic that, while worth a read for the sheer hilarity of the escapades that the mane six encounter (the Cutie Mark Crusaders become suspected of being a street gang, working alongside Princess Celestia and Derpy Hooves), it fails in every single way with regards to romance. However, it has two lines in it that struck me as lines that should be in every single Twilight fic ever. Or at least some variation of those lines:

The Great and Powerful Trixie couldn't do it. She tried to remain angry at Twilight Sparkle, she really did - after all, the lavender unicorn had managed to cheat on her before Trixie had even got around to asking her out! With a building no less! 'The ignominy! The audacity!'

The part where Twilight takes out a book from the library behind Trixie's back, and Trixie treats it like Twilight having an affair with the library. Some variation of this should be in every Twilight shipfic.

'Yep, that's who you fell for'.

The bit where Trixie is made to realize that Twilight is not, in fact, and all-powerful sorcerous who defends Ponyville from Ursa Minors every morning before breakfast, but is rather really awkward and clumsy.

In fact, some variation of this line should be in every single romance ever. Ever.

So, without further ado, and analysis of Twilight’s prospective matches.

Applejack: This pairing works well, if only for the fact that they could easily live the rest of their lives together. But only because Applejack is Twilight’s best friend already, and I don’t see how that’s going to change. In my mind, having watched them grow together through the seasons, Applejack and Twilight act like sisters. There is no chemistry there beyond that. I have yet to read a good Sparklejack fic.

Rarity: Rarity is, in two words, high maintenance. Not the type of pony Twilight should be in a relationship. Curls pulls this off, mostly by playing to Rarity’s drama, Rarity’s need to be the damsel in distress perfectly matching Twilight’s desire to help her friends. And Twilight not worrying about Rarity’s mane even when Rarity gets fussy about it. But otherwise, I’d say their hopes for a long-term relationship are nil.

Rainbow Dash: This is a case where opposites definitely attract. Of all the mane cast, I’d say Rainbow Dash has the best chances of success with Twilight. She’s the best one out of the mane cast to present her with challenges and try to help her be better. That besides, Rainbow Dash can help Twilight when she's in 'epic sorceress' mode, and Twilight can help Rainbow Dash when she's in 'embarrassingly goofy' mode. My favorite SparkDash fic is Twilight's List.

Fluttershy: Fluttershy is far too shy to have any relationship with Twilight. Ever. Can you imagine either one of them making a first move?

Pinkie Pie: JUST! SO! CUTE! Mix Pinkie with Twilight, and you get sweetness rivalling that of any form of sugar! I’m surprised nobody’s done a fic with the two of them meeting as babies somehow. Adorable! I mean, obviously not viable for a long term relationship, but while it lasts, it’s adorable! My favorite Twilight Pinkie fic is A Different Kind Of Magic. The way Pinkie Pie talks Twilight through a potentially life-threatening case being stuck in a mirror is so touching, and the way they both act is SO! ADORABLE!

    Popular ships:

Big Mac: This is my third favorite ship for Twilight. It’s like she’s dating Applejack, except without the sisterly bond getting in the way.

Princess Celestia: I’ve never quite understood why anyone would think there’s that kind of relationship between Celestia and Twilight. It’s not because Celestia’s an immortal who met Twilight as a filly – immortals need love too, and as long as she only starts to progress to that stage when Twilight’s old enough I don’t consider a twelve-hundred something loving a twenty something pedophilia. But Celestia is Twilight’s mentor.

There are five different ways you can mentor someone; The Hard Master, who you respect because you fear them, and because you fear/respect them, you listen to their council (my personal favorite, as I owe a great deal to my own Hard Masters). The Motherer, the mentor who teaches with positive encouragement instead of negative reinforcement, pointing out your talents so you can do better instead of pointing out your flaws so you can correct them (and no, I don’t dislike motherers, it’s a perfectly valid method of teaching and I think Princess Celestia teaches this way). There’s the Live Fire Teacher, who teaches by putting the student in situations they’re trying to learn for, neither mothering them nor being too hard, simply standing on the sidelines and forcing the student to learn for himself while adding only a comment of aid here and there (this is the second type of mentor Princess Celestia is likely to be). Then there’s the Yoda, and I don’t think I have to explain to anybody how being insane helps students learn and grow. And finally, there’s the Villainous Mentor, a subset of the Hard Master and the Live Fire Teacher, the Villainous Mentor is someone who teaches his student by constantly attacking him with a wide array of attacks, pushing the student to be better or else they will die, because unlike Live Fire Teacher, they won’t step in if their student looks like he’ll lose, and if they do lose then the Villainous Mentor will consider them unworthy and move on (Depending on which fanfic you read, Celestia also might be this mentor).

Now, maybe somebody else knows a different method of motivating and educating a person, but those are the five types I know of. And does Twilight sound like somebody to fall in love with any of those types? No. Celestia is a mentor first, and a friend second, but she will never be Twilight’s love.

Princess Luna: This is more realistic than Celestia. They both love the stars, and they’re both slightly awkward in social situations. Luna is outside of Twilight’s group of friends, and is probably the element of magic too or something. She’s kind, and funny, and she’d make a good couple to Twilight. A Moonlit Balcony does this really well.

Discord: This one seems almost impossible to pull off, because to me, almost nobody can pull off a proper Discord. There are very few Discord fics out there where Discord isn't either; A Fourth Wall breaking moron, An angsty I'm-only-misunderstood-sorry-for-brainwashing-your-friends-but-I-can't-help-being-evil-because-I-was-locked-in-a-statue-for-1,000-years, or A Pure Evil monster, who feeds the Elements their own siblings. Discord is a complex character, and takes some effort to pull off properly. And yeah, I don't think Twilight could possibly fall in love with either the original or any of the characterizations people attach to Discord to make him easier to write.

Trixie: This… is just so wrong. I can’t even… okay, this just makes no sense. Trixie humiliated Twilight and her friends multiple times. Given the last Trixie episode, Twilight seems to be over it but… but it’s like Twilight and Rarity, only without the established friendship and with the addition of a mountain’s worth of abrasiveness. Even if you subscribe to the train of thought that Trixie isn’t abrasive, she’s just a drama queen that’s all bark and no bite who was temporarily brainwashed by the Alicorn Amulet… even then, she’s too self-centered to be any type of match for Twilight without some heavy, heavy character development.

Cheerilee: I'd say this is an okay match. Cheerilee and Twilight have a lot in common; they're both educated, and they both have a soft spot for their youngsters. Cheerilee is a lot older than Twilight, but that's just something to get over. Granted, I've not seen a lot of Cheerilee fics that pull this off well, despite Cheerilee/Twilight being a popular couple, but if it's done right I think it could have potential.

    Special Mentions;

These are the ships that I don’t see very often, but are still noteworthy in my opinion.

Soarin’: From the fic Eros Dreaming. Twilight and Soarin’ bonding over star-watching starts off the romance train, which is then completed by Soarin’ being a perfectly romantic gentlecolt. The only flaw I can find in this pairing is that Soarin’ has yet to prove his ability to tolerate Twilight’s… outbursts. But he’s still my second favorite ship, so somebody please write a Soarin’/Twilight fic.

Roller Reel: From Nyx’s family. Roller Reel started out as a loser, but in later chapters he’s shaping up nicely, having discovered that his Special Talent isn’t useless and putting it to good use. Now, officially, it’s not a shipfic, but I can cross my fingers and hope, because Roller Reel seems to be everything I’ve just described as Twilight’s perfect match. Roller Reel is my favorite OC, and the only OC that I think has a shot at Twilight.

My personal OTP for Twilight Sparkle, is Iron Will. I am genuinely shocked that there are no shipfics for the two of them. Iron Will is goofy, and louder than life, but he’s also an honorable minotaur, and one who’s trying to help and advance ponykind. I imagine them bonding over their love of literature (or at least their love of poetry; you can’t tell me Iron Will’s not a poet with those crazy rhymes of his). And when they dance, everybody will be embaressed to be in the same room as this happy couple. I can also imagine Iron Will being a part of Twilight’s other life as an Element of Harmony and a princess. Can’t you see him taking on Sombra or Chrysalis with his bare hands (of course, it’s the romantic interest’s job to get involved with fights solely because they love their mate and not because they can actually win fights, but Iron Will can at least contribute, while most normal ponies would be reduced to bucking rocks at them as a distraction). The travelling life he leads might be rough on Twilight, but now that she’s a princess, who knows? She’ll be able to go anywhere whenever she wants, and her magic has exponentially increased so she can probably teleport to him any time either one is feeling lonely.

So, yeah, IronSparkle or TwilightWill for the win! Internet; Make It So!

    Entry 2: Jubilee

Every body has a favorite pony.

Usually, it's some member of the Mane six.

Sometimes it's a background character, like Doctor Whooves, Derpy, Lyra, Bon-bon, or the like.

Somtimes it's a villain, even though like Discord and Chrysalis, they aren't even what you could call ponies.

Rarely is it a pony who appears once and never again.

So, who is my 'BEST PONY'?

The answer may surprise some of you; I believe the Best Pony award goes to Cherry Jubilee.

    Why Cherry Jubilee?

    Glad you asked.

For those of you who have read all of my stories, you know that I’m a fan of the diabolical mastermind character. In My Little Pony, there’s basically Discord, and possibly King Sombra. And that’s it, as far as intelligent villains go. But I believe that, behind them all, Cherry Jubilee is running things behind the scenes. She’s playing a game of chess with Celestia beyond mortal comprehension, and Celestia won’t even know she’s playing until it’s too late.

    My evidence?

    As follows.

In her introductory episode, Applejack lies. Applejack is the element of honesty… AND SHE LIES! What could make Applejack lie, other than a cunning and ruthless pony manipulating her behind the scenes.

I highly doubt that Applejack didn’t deserve at least one blue medal from that rodeo. Isn’t it convenient for Jubilee that one of the Elements of Harmony happened to lose every single competition, and then somehow managed to be convinced her family would be ashamed of her if she came back?

I propose that Cherry Jubilee’s Special Talent is ‘cherry-picking’. Which is to say, cherry picking the best plan out of hundreds to put into action, or cherry picking the best ponies to be friends with. Some may say that her cutie mark is just an extension of her cherry farm.

That’s just what she wants you to think.

When she found her Special Talent, she conquered the entire cherry market just to hide what her true special talent is.

Need more proof? The episode after Applejack leaves her employ, Applejack almost loses her farm. The plan is perfect; flawless. The plan would have won, and Applejack would have been ruined had she not come crawling back to Jubilee… but the plan failed. Because the two ponies in charge of the plan were so overconfident that they invited ‘all of Canterlot’ to help A.J., and then they panic and lose the competition via messing with the machine.

Tell me, do you think those two honestly thought up the plan to take over Sweet Apple Acres by themselves?

No, Jubilee was the true mastermind.

Do you think it’s a coincidence that Rainbow Dash was put in the hospital the episode after that?

Maybe she got what she wanted. Maybe Applejack, a contender for the role of ‘smartest pony in the mane six’ by my reckoning, managed to foil Jubilee’s plot. Whatever the case, Jubilee seems to lose interest with them after that.

But she’s not above petty vengeance.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of the mane six eat a cherry past her episode, have you?

I think there’s only one reason why a street vendor would charge an Element of Harmony twenty bits for a cherry.

    They’re under orders from Jubilee.

Any pony who sells a cherry to an Element of Harmony, better wring them for all they’ve got.

This is the Cherry Jubilee that will feature in all of my stories. Except in Scootaloo’s Chaotic Family, which features Discord being cunning enough that we don’t need Jubilee in the mix.

This is why Jubilee is the best pony.

    Entry 1; Into The Fandom

    I am Schrodinger’s Pony.

What follows is my Pony Journal; a record of what I love about the fanfiction community, what I love less, and what I tolerate. My thoughts on my favorite ponies, how I like them to be written, who I’d ship them with, and more. Interspersed will be story ideas I wish somebody would write, or ideas I have yet to work out how to write myself. Along with reviews and recommendations for the fics that I love the most. For this first entry, I will explain how I came to be in the position of writing this Pony Journal in the first place.

When I first heard that My Little Pony had an immense following of adult males, I was as incredulous as everybody else at the news. Wasn’t My Little Pony a girly show? Of course it was. It is sheer folly to believe otherwise.

I went a full two years after hearing to news, without action. I decided to ignore it. It would go away. It was just a fad.

Then, as my chaotic mind whirls, I just so happened to connect the dots, while explaining Westerns to a friend.

This friend had the same problem I did; hey grew up knowing only two Westerns; Wild Wild West, the steampunk abomination starring Will Smith, and the Spaghetti Westerns starring Clint Eastwood, who is a truly horrible actor.

I, however, had sought out other Westerns to view, and found myself intrigued by such productions as American Outlaw, and Rango. I was explaining to him how, no genre can be terrible in and of itself. They all have bad spots in their history, and they all have their masterpieces.

That was when it hit me –

What was My Little Pony, other than an unexplored genre?

So what if the main stars were brightly colored equines? It didn’t mean there wouldn’t be action. It could be a compelling fantasy.

After doing preliminary research on the show, I took the plunge. And I was amazed.

As had been my previous conceptions about the show, there were no good villains to speak of. Nightmare Moon was a laughable cliché, I sympathized with Gilda, and Trixie had no lasting impact on me (imagine my surprise when I later learned she was one of the most popular characters on the show!).

But I discovered that My Little Pony is not a Fantasy. It is a Sitcom! How else would you describe a show where the season finale entailed the main characters going to a party, and we the audience ROOT FOR THEM TO HAVE A GOOD TIME! The Fantasy was just the setting for the circumstantial hilarity and pratfalls that take place on other sitcoms! The only difference here being that the main characters are equines, and that the situations they encounter are given fantastical twists. And also music.

When I moved onto the second season, I discovered Discord. It was like falling in love again; the Fantasy setting balanced itself out with the Sitcom genre, as the characters waged an epic war against an eldritch spirit. The second season featured less villains, but what villains it did have were far better than Nightmare Moon or Gilda!

And then, the final stage in my pilgrimage to broniedom was achieved. As expected of any genre, Friendship Is Magic had its ups and its down. For every Return Of Harmony there was a Griffon the Brush-Off or Mare-Do-Well. There were better shows out there. There were shows that were extraordinary from beginning to end, without any scrappy episodes.

But then I discovered the fanfiction community that writes for Friendship.

This is easily the biggest fanfiction community I’ve ever seen, bigger even than Harry Potter. You absolutely cannot call yourself a fan of MLP if you do not contribute in some way or another. There’s minimal bashing; everybody is either in complete awe of you, or offering genuinely helpful critiques. Most of us double as Doctor Who fans, which is unsurprising given the morals and standards that both shows uphold. There are even subgenres of fiction, completely unique to our fandom, like Changeling fics.

Whether you think My Little Pony is a net gain in art or not, whether you think the good in it outweighs the bad; there will always be fanfiction. And that is the beautiful reality.

Lauren Faust didn't just give us a t.v. show. She case us a cast, a setting, and a laugh, more than enough to go on. She gave us a big sandbox in which to play, and FIMfiction is a place where we can show off our castles to each other.

Fluttershy has a secret. A secret that will lead the mane six on an epic quest to save Equestria. As her best friends try to cope with this discovery, they discover that each of them has a secret to share, and nopony wants to be the first to share theirs. Can the Elements remain in harmony long enough to save Equestria from a dastardly villain?

Warining: This could be considered a crackfic. Your mind will definitely be blown at least once.

:rainbowhuh: Wat.

This doesn't explain why Fluttershy's scared of most dragons though.  In fact, it seems almost counter-intuitive.

Continue this, for i must have answers! :flutterrage:

Fluttershy is best dragon.

#3 · 129w, 1d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

This is really interesting! faved and thumbs up.

>>534541 Maybe she was just using that as a cover up because she didn't want to tell her friends or she just wanted to avoid dragons all together because they might recognize her or something.

#4 · 129w, 1d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

>>534541 Well, I think this also explains it as well, since those older dragons were mean and aggressive to Spike. I think most dragons are, but does that mean all dragons? No. It could well mean that Fluttershy's parents are the exception and that they raised their daughter to be wary of other dragons. Which is a just reasoning, seeing as dragons can be both cruel and greedy. (That and I"m just rolling with it.:trollestia:)

Anyways, this is a good story. (I have no idea why, but I just love romances between Fluttershy and a dragon.)

YES. SMAUG.:heart::heart: I LOVE YOU LORD OF THE RINGS FAN. (if you are that is :applejackunsure:)

This is good. Continue. :moustache:

>>534541 I think that might be part of the joke. Fluttershy's not scared of dragons, she's scared that her friends will find out that she was raised by them. If, during the Migration, a dragon flew down and shouted "Hey, Flutters! How've ya been?" that kind of would have blown her cover.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more this makes sense...Fluttershy was excited to see spike, a baby dragon. She pretended to be afraid to go and shoo the dragon away from the mountain because it might have recognized her. She hid from him so he wouldn't. When it bowled her friends over, she got mad. The dragon was afraid of her because she was, adopted or not, the dragon princess.

Interesting, if a bit silly. But sometimes silly is good!

#11 · 129w, 1d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

Why do I ship Fluttershy so strangely?

>>534633 oh good, I'm not the only one

#12 · 129w, 1d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

>>534725 I like strange ships too. (Though, usually the strange couple makes more sense than I realize.)

Wtf am I doing?

#15 · 129w, 1d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

>>534772 Okay, some strange ships make sense. Others...don't even go there.

#16 · 129w, 1d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

It's always possible that Fluttershy is afraid of dragons precisely because of what she knows about them, of course. :trixieshiftright:

Anyway, writing and characterization are decent so far (I'm willing to let Pinkie screech to a halt over the concept that somebody could forget "Brithdays" slide :raritywink:) and the premise is squarely in "crazy enough to be awesome" territory. Tracking this.

#17 · 129w, 1d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

This intrigues me :trixieshiftright: when is next chapter coming out

#20 · 129w, 1d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

Perhaps Fluttershy's been faking her fear of dragons and not wanting to get near them because one of them might recognize her and then her friends would know about this whole thing!

#21 · 129w, 1d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

Typos aside, I love it and eagerly await more.

Also, Fus Ro YAY is now head cannon for this story imo.

#22 · 129w, 1d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

There you are, you sneaky little pegasus...:fluttershysad:

Smaug won't be pleased with you.

This looks to be an interesting concept, will be watching to see where this goes.

please finish the story:fluttershysad: i'l be very, very, very sad if this is the end. :fluttercry:

Woah! :applejackconfused: Woah! :pinkiegasp: Woah! :twilightoops: WOAH! :rainbowderp:

What is this? This is the most comments Ive ever gotten for a story in a single day - less then a day! - and for something that I wrote on a whim! You guys are amazing! :yay:

Now, I'm new to the sight, and haven't mastered the subtle art of responding to more then one comment at a time. I'll try to respond to you all now.

:pinkiegasp: Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! :ajsmug:

Yes, Fluttershy's pretending to be afraid of dragons so she doesn't blow her cover and scare her friends. I'll explain more about it next chapter, rest assure.

Yes, I like wierd pairings too. Or more to the point, I like any pairing so long as the author puts enough passion in it and sticks true to the characters, so this makes me excited when an author pulls this off with characters who aren't a very likely couple.

I was planning on updating irregularly, just whenever I scribbled somehing together, but after this wonderful reception you can be sure I'll have something ready for you very soon. :raritywink: Although, I can't write like lightning the way most authors here seem to, so 'soon' means maybe a week, and this story will still be sharing its update time with my other stories. :raritydespair:

>>536813 Typo time! You should get someone to proof read for you. Or wait a few hours/day to post your chapters and read them later. It's very hard to see your own mistakes right after you write something.

‘It’ in this case, being the foot of Angel’s pet rabbit Angel.

She was stealthy. Almost… dare she think it... like a ninja. She was Rainbow Dash, the ninja detective.

There's no space after the period

Personally, Rainbow Dash suspected alines.

"This is so awesome." Rainow Dash snickered.

“Do you have a letter fomr the Princess?” Twilight gasped.

Spike held up an old looking roll of parchment with a Canterlot Seal scrolled attacked to its front.

Take out the word scrolled, and should be attached not attacked

“Allow me to take a wild. Guess.”  Twilight said, almost glaring at Fluttershy.

Why the random period and cap'd letter?

I'm very interested in seeing where this goes, could be a great read.

#30 · 129w, 18h ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

Wait, I ... I'm OK with this. :pinkiehappy:

#31 · 129w, 15h ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

You, sir, are a genius.

Watched and faved.

#32 · 129w, 6h ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

So, Will she get married to a dragon? Or will she get married to a pony as a representative to the dragons? Just curious.

#33 · 128w, 5d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

I absolutely cannot imagine who in Equestria might be Celestia's daughter-of-heart, somepony not her daughter that she still thinks of as one... It's a complete mystery! You got any idea who that could possibly be, Twilight? :twilightsheepish:

#34 · 128w, 5d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

Well, this is certainly interesting. :moustache:  Fluttershy has been a dragon princess this whole time?  Tracking!  :rainbowkiss::yay:  Can't wait for more!

#35 · 128w, 3d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

Yes I am. :ajsmug: I was a fan before it was cool to be a fan.

The Wild. Guess. Was supposed to emphasize how angry Twilight was, but the rest of those were mistakes. :twilightblush: And I even edited it twice before posting! Thanks for catching those for me.

Gonna have to wait and see. :raritywink:

Eh, some of the stories I'm watching can be pretty fast. like Background Pony; updates about every week, but each chapter is around ten thousand words. :rainbowderp:

Thank you, I'm going for genius! :pinkiehappy:

And thank you to the rest of you for your comments too! Second chapter will be coming soon. :yay:

I was going to continue with a series of letters where Fluttershy wrote about the series' adventures to her parents in her own perspective, but I decided that this was a beautiful place to end it.

If you have any more questions about dragon culture, be sure to ask them in the comments so I can answer them next chapter.

Loved the interactions with Gilda. Really the whole chapter, but especially the part at the start of flight camp.

Fluttershy is best Dragon-pony. That's what I'm sticking with.

This is better than it has any right to be.

This was awesome and has pushed it to the top of my 'looking forward to the next chapter' list. Fluttershy's wings being weak due to continual malnutrition, Her honorifics, Dash having a mysterious family backstory, cutie marks being a disease, tickling, etc was all brilliant.

I'd love to see you address whether or not Celestia or Luna know about fluttershy's history yet, or if Smaug has used her letters to begin opening up diplomat relations with them. I'd also love to see the reactions of the other mane 6 to fluttershy's backstory. Also be sure to mention what fluttershy's adoptive mother thought about fluttershy finally getting to meet an attempt to take care of a phoenix! :yay:

I have to agree with you on that one.

really good chapter, though you may want to go over it again, especially the beginning, I spied several typos there if I'm correct(no grave ones).

Keep up the good work:yay:

#44 · 128w, 1d ago · · · Another Royal Wedding? ·

>>558221 That wild. Guess thing still seems really out of place :rainbowderp:

In their tongue, she is... Still Fluttershy.

Umm... FUS RO yay!

Best Back Story Every. couldn't help but laugh the whole time

That gave me a Daww

Love this immensely. Dragon-eating ponies, the possibility of Fluttershy having been named Tarzan, apple trees as flowers...:rainbowlaugh:

However, because of my background...

Lord Stockholm has the same effect on me as "Lord San Fransisco" has on an average American.:rainbowhuh: I know it is meant to be a bit ridiculous, but meh.

>>567656 >>567658 >>567694 >>567918 >>567944 >>567720

:rainbowhuh: Doesn't it have a right to be awesome?

Eh, you may be right. But until I find some better way it'll have to do. Thanks!

Thanks so much! Don't worry, you'll see their reactions in the next chapter.

Ah, I'm sorry, I hadn't considered the swedish crowd. Or is Stockholm swiss? :facehoof: Anyway, sorry. I just thought it was a cool name for a dragon. I'm glad you like everything else.

Very good.
