It is a good story so far but there are some thought mistakes in there.
I will put the originals in (). The right ones italicize and write out the way it should read.

Why are people so bad at lying?... Oh, maybe it's because I often tell the truth so when I do lie, people don't notice... And maybe my lack of care about being caught...
5422809 I suppose it is a tad unrealistic, but in Gerard's defense, he is in a bit of an unusual situation, reactions are bound to be a little exaggerated. But a lack of care would certainly make lying easier.
