Young Shining Dawn is very excited when she hears that Princess Celestia is coming to visit Ponyville. But for Sweetie Belle, her grandmother, the visit carries much deeper significance, especially when she learns that her old friends Scootaloo and Applebloom are also coming, and that the Princess is here on a very special visit for Grandmother Twilight.

I rewrote some bits of the story, and then when I tried to update the chapter here on fimfiction everything stopped working oh god why and I was already stressed because of university work and it wasn't working and after two hours it still wasn't working and I couldn't go back to my university work until I could be in peace of mind about it and then all the comments disappeared out the window and then I panicked and asked a mod to sort it out for me and then he did and now I feel better.

But that's where all the comments have gone. I'm going to go and have a cup of tea and cry a bit, and then I can actually go back to university work.

Well, its not often that I read a story that makes me cry (Shut up, they be manly tears and you know it!) and this story made me shed a few tears. I commend thee of this story for it is one of the best I have ever read (though thats not saying much, as much as I should anyway). I have no idea how I caan put my feelings for this story into words, other then its a happy sad feeling. Thank you for writing this one. I am sure that every now and then I will go back and read it over, just to remember what it was about, and how it made me feel. Thank you again for writing this.

Gah! I cried. They weren't manly tears, as I'm a woman, but they were sad and meaningful nonetheless. Thanks for the great story, it was beautifully written and extremely thoughtful in its premise.

I thought it a very charming story indeed, and using the elderly CMC's as the main characters was an original way to approach it, along with Sweetie's granddaughter to give it a generational feel.  Well done, and I'm flattered to have played even a small role in inspiring it!

Wow. Ive never actually cried reading. i cant even remember the last time i cried. I choked up the moment twilight said "A long time ago, I used to look up there, hoping I would see a rainbow. I’d sit in my chair all day long, just waiting." I dont know why, I dont even think it was designed to be sad. But i felt a deeper meaning. A muscel under my adams apple tensed up and i started choking, literally choking. There was one point where I had to stop reading because i thought i was going to pass out. I've always wondered about what will happen when i get older and eventually die, i think this just completed what I couldnt understand and made me realize just how precious life really is. I feel old right now and  Im no where near the age to be worrying about the rest of my life. I havent even begun it yet. Thanks Tamar. I dont know what you did or how you did it. But you made this one hell of a powerful story.

    >>553429 It's the wonderful thing about writing. You casually invent something for plot convenience, and accidentally make up a whole new concept.

How did Twilight write the Laws of Harmony? Are they legally binding? How many laws are there? When did she write them? And what do they say?

I will leave that for somebody else to write, if anyone wants to.

There are so many of these stories. They are all so similar.

They also always, invariably, reduce me to a weeping pile of goo.

Thanks for this story. As I said, the plot and setting are very common, but your writing and choice of characters added enough to make it feel unique. I think the "time for another adventure" line was my favorite, as Bilbo is best hobbit and that line was his very best, IMO.

Bless you sir. Bless you. You and all other authors who are so gifted and so..... wonderful as to create such magnificent stories that capture peoples imaginations, wrestle their emotions and fill people with joy and sadness. dread and adventure. You can write beautiful stories and tell wondrous tales that bring fans closer to the characters that we know and love, and that make us just as connected to said characters as they feel to each other. A great Traveler once said that if it's been thought of, it exists. And that makes me feel hopeful. That somewhere out in the Multiverse, there are characters that live and die, laugh and love. And that while we may not know it or see it, stories like this happen every day. That the mantears that we cry are not in vain, shed over/about something that isn't truly real. That when I look into space at night, I can dream about something tangible and real. And that is a truly wonderful feeling. Thank you.

Oh man, where do I start. This fic is one of those one's that if you don't start to feel that burn in your eyes, if not outright cry, then you know there's something wrong with you.

These fics maybe a dime-a-dozen throughout various fandoms, but rarely do you see one as well written and emotion inducing as this. This is one of those stories that no matter how many times I read, it will always make me start crying at just how, well I don't quite have the words but how, powerful the scenes are. It's a kind of bittersweet passing of an era, that you can't help but cry at knowing the world is just that little bit less bright.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm just going to go and reflect for a while about friends lost.

Wow. I loved you you mixed Greek/Roman mythology into this (Elysian Fields), seeing as how it's canonical. In the words of Gandalf from the scene I'm sure you were inspired by along with the picture: "I will not say do not weep, for not all tears are evil."

These tears are definitely not evil.

THIS close to tears, but that alone is a good sign that this was emotional. A sad yet bittersweet departure of an old soul who desires to see her friends again after so long. Amazing detail goes into how Twilight was in her final days--somewhat strange yet highly intelligent. And to see her note to the girls to keep contact with each other and to remember their times with the book was a heartwarming and saddening piece. Very nice job.

The fact that Celestia has to see this happen to so many of the ponies close to her... That's the first thing that did it for me... Then finishing this oneshot... I almost cried ;___; That's major for me, because nearly no media, video, written, song, etc. can make me tear up but the most sad and most beautiful ones... Not only make me tear up, but make me actually feel sadness. (Wow, I sound so heartless.)

One thing that's bothering me: how much age difference are you assuming between the CMC and the Mane Six? It's my experience that pretty much everyone, myself included, goes with something in the general vicinity of ten years. Yet you speak of Twilight as if she has lived far beyond a normal pony lifespan, whereas the CMC are old but not yet cripplingly so. Young enough still for Apple Bloom to tackle Sweetie, and for Scoots to still fly places, in any case; they seem like they could have another decade ahead of them without magical aid, if nothing too bad happens.

    Hi Borg,

I basically assumed that the Mane Six except for Twilight have "passed on" by now, and the CMC are "very old". Sweetie Belle is pretty stiff when she sits in front of the fire, even if she's not in a wheelchair. I think it's feasible for Twilight to be unnaturally old - older than anypony can really remember - while still only being roughly ten years older than the CMC.

It's not perfect, and requires a bit of suspension of disbelief ... but isn't that the point of a story? For the purposes of this short story I was happy with the chronology; if it was a longer and more complex story I would want to be more exact with the timeline, but since it's just a little one-shot, I'm not going to be losing any sleep over it.
