The Sparkle family are going on vacation. While family holidays are often difficult, Twilight knows this one is going to be particularly bad. Mostly because her father doesn't.
Oh god, reading this story i realize how much of a hypocrite i am. I fuckin hate Velvet for what she's done to Night light but i am rooting for Twilight lights and Night lights relationship to continue and succeed. I hate the idea of cheating and i don't understand why people do it, i would have stopped reading this story if it weren't so well written and interesting.
I ask because I don’t think many ponies can appreciate how long a thousand years is. Over a hundred lifetimes, for most.
So most ponies don't even make it to 10 years old? Tragic!
That aside, it's nice to see this updating. No other story I follow really has quite the same feel to it. It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion, and I mean that in the best possible way. I know it's going to end really badly, but I can't stop watching.
Today I was revising my favourites folder and saw the incomplete fanfics I got there, then I thought "Maybe I can do a module with the incomplete stories with no update whatsoever". Then a few hours later the 0 changed to 1, I had a hunch on your story, and it was you.
And it was a nice chapter overall, I love Twilight's conflict between reason and lust (and maybe love), let's see whether this is the last answer or will be a "maybe".
So, thanks for the chapter, and see you in a year, or not, that's on you, I will wait, and I'm not the only one here
7956781 Knowing how I plan to end the story has always been my reason for omitting those tags, although I've often considered adding a sad tag so as not to mislead people. I dunno, I think Drama is still more fitting than Sad.
7956822 Glad you liked it. And I'm doubling down, two years to the next one!
I wonder just how much Shining Armor knows and how much Cadance knows. I get the feeling that Velvet knows the least about what is going on but I cannot see this ending well for anyone.
7956846 I would say the sad tag would be appropriate by this point. It's only the tragedy tag that can be a spoiler. Honestly, at this rate, the next thing that we learn is that Twilight is pregnant. Huh, there's an idea. Anyway, lets hope the next one doesn't take a year.
You, dear Grimm, have almost made me cry while I was reading this in my way to work. The way that you describe Twilight's thoughts and feelings... that chapter's end... Magic, dude.
I almost feel bad to have fapped to some sex parts of the previous chapter.
Keep going, this is awesome.
PD: Did I give you a "Dean Ambrose's Seal of Approval" before? If not, that must be fixed.
7956920 7957057 I would hope Cadance is a good enough person not to get mad at all at her husband in this very tense situation where his father is in an incestuous affair with his younger sister. This is a double whammy; no one who loves their mother would be okay with somebody hurting them in this way, and a good big brother wants to protect his sister, so Night Light has ultimately betrayed Shining on both of these fronts. Realistically, a lot of guys would fly into a rage and seriously beat their fathers in this situation, so Shining Armor is showing a lot of self-control. His wife should be proud of that and not rub salt in the wounds after his family just broke apart because he didn't support an affair. She's the Princess of Love, not Lust and Cheating.
Anyway, while cheating is the ultimate symbol of selfishness, Night Light's really taking it to the next level when he's trying to argue they continue the affair with the point that he has nothing to lose. Twilight is not in the same boat since she has five best friends who are practically like sisters, a baby dragon who's like a little brother, her position as Celestia's student, the Element of Magic, and, though neither one knows it, her future as a princess, and all of this is on the line right now. Just because Night Light has nothing left doesn't mean he should drag his daughter who he claims to love twofold down with him. That's not even including Twilight's position as a Defender of Equestria. He's basically trying to temp her into letting Equestria burn for their misguided love.
At this point, I imagine the only way things could end even remotely happily is if there were thorough mind-wipes all around. The cleansing power of flames; sometimes when a mess is this big, you just gotta burn it all down and rebuild on the ashes.
Except in most ALL depictions of memory magics and memory-affecting abilities, there is one thing it does not affect - the Heart.
So yeah, let Twilight use some mind-wipes all around, even herself ... only to be wondering WHY she's got a burning desire for her dad, why her dad is getting hot and bothered around her and neglecting Velvet, why Cadance is sensing a ROMANTIC love between Night Light and Twilight (if the memory magic even affect her), and why Velvet is clueless about why her husband of several decades is now all but ignoring her, save for token displays of affection.
The ONLY thing it might fix is Shining, and that's if his barrier spells do not extend to memory/mental defense post-Chrysalis ... unicorn magic evolves out of necessity, after all.
Just my two bits to you two fine gentlecolts' musings and pointing out a "quick fix".
7958539 I've been burned before by someone withholding that tag Not by Grimm, it was Vimbert. Bad times, man. You get strung along then smack right into a bad end. I really hope we're not going down that road here.
7958663 I'm glad that this is an actual thing, because I frigging hate it when I get broadsided by a tag at the last second. I don't read [insert genre here] for a reason. (Is that something we should report when it's intentionally misleading?)
It's live. It's beautiful. And there's still more to come. Words cannot express the pure and unadultered joy that this masterpiece brings me back to; but I dearly wish to express all of my enthusiasm that finally gets to explode. I'll wait, with faith and patience, for the next chapter to come.
At the risk of being redundant, I admire the skill in writing, the streams which barely let me in Twilight's world, and in this story I find most approriate quoting Lullaby for a Princess. 7957477 can word appreciation much more effectively, I'll second all of his words.
And then Night Light walked out into the lake and didn't come back up.
Honestly, I'm really no longer interested in any of them being happy but that stallion has been coerced, mislead and betrayed by everyone in his family. Just leave man, leave them all that fucking night. Go to Las Pegasus or some place for a few weeks or months to cool off, recenter yourself and REALLY decide what to do and what is even worth saving. Your wife is fucked up, your daughter is fucked up, your son is fucked up and you are fucked up; not to be too dark on this drama but with that stone cold ending from Twilight and how this entire thing has gone for him to not have him thinking 'they would be better off if I just wasn't around anymore' would be unrealistic. Velvet can maybe do better with her next husband, no temptation for Twilight, no twisted mirror for Shining to self hate on, and hopefully he can actually find a mare that that won't betray him.
Also the implosion of them turning on each other while unable to find him would be interesting, but I know it's probably not going to happen. I bet next chapter is a time skip and after the divorce cause I can't see the marriage ever being happy again. Then again I thought this story has dead last chapter so maybe Grimm will keep being surprising and epic; keep up the good work man.
7959903 From your comment, it sounds like you think Night Light is faultless in all this, and I have to wonder, how? At most I can think maybe because most of his misdeeds have been reactionary as apposed to him instigating them, but he is certainly not innocent. Yes, his wife cheated on him first, but that doesn't make cheating in retaliation any less wrong. Yes, Twilight was seducing him, but that doesn't make succumbing to her advances okay. Yes, Twilight was the one who pushed for the romantic relationship, but him trying to continue it with so much at stake doesn't make him any less desperate. If I had to rate the 'wrongness' of the characters, it would be Twilight as the worst as she lusted after a married stallion, her father, before even knowing about the rocky marriage (though she really should have thought he was committing adultery back in the first story and been upset about that and it's implications), meaning she did it believing she was destroying a marriage but still continued. The next, probably to your surprise, would be Night Light as apposed to his wife since not only is he cheating, but it's with his daughter and his wife simply has the moral high ground considering that, even though she cheated first, she stopped, confessed, and is trying to make amends. Then third is Velvet (what she did is still awful, simply not as bad as the previous two entries) followed by Shining, who hasn't actually done anything particularly bad from a more socially normative perspective. What's actually bad is that he's willing to keep the secret, though it is understandable why.
It's actually odd to me that so many people are rooting for Twilight/Night Light in this as it doesn't appear to supposed to be a traditional clopfic. It actually seems more like it's supposed to be an incest clop set in a non-clopfic world. What I mean is, in the context of most clopfics, the main goals of which are simply to be as arousing as possible, sex isn't portrayed with the same social and cultural implications and weight as it is in real life. Incest clop is hot instead of gross for instance, and is generally accepted in the context of these stories. But this is not that kind of world. In the the world of this story, incest and adultery are treated as they would be in real life, and in real life, if you found out a man was cheating on his wife with his daughter, no matter if the wife cheated first or not, you wouldn't be cheering the father/daughter pair on, you'd be disgusted. People would shake their heads or point and laugh. "Look at those freaks!" they'd shout. "How despicable that man is," they'd spit. "Hussy. Home wrecker. A psycho bitch," they'd whisper behind hands.
All in all, I feel like this story is almost a commentary about the disconnect between what we like in our pornography, and what we feel is acceptable in the world. You might masturbate to a video of rape-play for instance, but would never rape another person yourself and would try and help someone if you saw them being raped.
7960138 I think they are saying that they are all fucked, Night included, just that Night should give up, accept the loss of his current life and start over somewhere else like a far off settlement. It is probably the only way anyone could even start to be happy at this point besides my earlier suggestion.
This needs to end honestly. The family is destroyed and everyone involved needs to get kicked. I better not see a time skip and Velvet has a happy life with a new husband, while Night Light is the only one suffering terribly. And Twilight of all really needs to get her ovaries kicked. She knew everything that happened before Night Light went off the deep end. She seduced him and took advantage of his mental state knowing everything that led up to this point. Before any white knight loser jumps to her defense, she isn't a foal, she's a major sexual deviant, and her dad wasn't even jumping on the opportunity in the first place, she pressed the whole thing and only know stopped it.
7960138 Velvet still doesn't have the moral high ground, no matter how hard you water it down. No one does, the only real victim is Shinning. Her fooling around because she wanted hot new dick is what started it all. And Shinning needs to see they are all wrong and seek counselling. Actually they all do.
The problem here is actually very simple. Everything began with an act of selfishness and everyone who becomes involved is perpetuating the problem by continuing to be selfish.
Also I get this needs to end but that just seemed cruel of Twilight.
I don't think this story can end with an orgy. Perhaps GRIMM could write a separate family orgy story. 1 where everyone gets it on with everyone els. ?
Don't mind me, just hastily rewriting my planned ending.
I still stand by my theory that Shining is the one that Velvet cheated with. And her story about her cheating with 'an old friend' is a lie, to protect Shining. As a mother would. And yeah, that makes Shining's actions toward Twilight and Night Light seem hypocritical. BUT consider the following: Perhaps he is so hard on them because he KNOWS just how badly he messed up his parents marriage by doing it himself. And he doesn't want Twilight going down the same path. He is angry with Night Light just as much as he is angry with himself. Because Shining still loves Velvet like that. But he had the willpower to stop (or Velvet had the willpower to stop after being found out) (OR they both stopped after they saw how much it hurt Night Light). And then there's Shining's marriage to Cadance. So, how do we (you, Grimm) un-fuck this whole problem so that no pony is the 'villain'?
Twilight (somehow) finds out that Shining was the pony that Velvet cheated with. (Ideally by catching them in the act.) Now Shining no longer has the moral high ground. (This has the added advantage of being super hot, too.) Twilight tells Night Light. Night is mad briefly, but ultimately has to see the twisted irony of it. Night Light tells Velvet that he knows the truth about her and Shining. Velvet confesses that it's true. Night Light confesses his love for Twilight to Velvet, in a gambit so that he and Twilight can be free of Shining's ultimatum. Velvet and or Shining confess that they are both still in love with each other. Everypony forgives each other (As Celestia foretold). *forgiveness orgy* Twilight and Shining forgive each other (multiple times.) And, in a surprise twist, it turns out that Cadance: A. Is cool with it. B. Has an incest fetish C. Orchestrated the whole thing from day one with love magic.
8035895 This doesn't seem like a true Shakespearicles ending yet. When does it turn out they have to have a family orgy to save the world from certain doom?
Like I said, it was so long, that I even forgotten this story even exists. I reread the whole thing and suddently reminded myself what brought me to Grimm ' s work on the first place. I ' m not going to dissect this whole thing anymore, because many tried to do so here before, but simple fact is that it is brilliantly written and I sincerely hope that we see continue and possibly end sooner than next year. Incest usually is not my kind of preffered clop but this hardly clop anymore. It became something much deeper.
7956556 Velvet created this whole mess, Twilight is a fucking deviant opportunist taking advantage a mentally damaged father trying to keep himself together and has done nothing but ruin the family even further. If I find out it's Shining Armor as the lover of Velvet, I'm done, because Night Light has beem through unnecessary bullshit.
Well, fuck me in the butt! A new chapter?
Sweet.
Nice to see that this isn't dead.
I feel bad for Night Light. It's not easy to quit that purple drank.
Good to see you're still kicking, Grimm.
*Sees new chapter posted after over a year of silence*
YYYYUUSSSS!!!!
Seriously tho, I fucking love this story, thanks for the update m8
Well, my faith in old stories being updated has somewhat been renewed. Nice job.
7956520
Well I mean if you insist...
7956556
Haha, that's pretty much what I was going for. Rooting for one 'side' is supposed to make it hard to condemn the other.
7956608
Whoops, I don't do numbers so good.
Uh, I mean, something something pony years or whatever.
reactiongifs.com/r/84.gif
I don't see a sad or tragedy tag so I assume this story is going to end well, but this chapter has me particularly concerned.
I felt sorry for Nightlight

7956846 If you're withholding a tragedy tag I will be pissed.
But getting to the chapter, I feel like if Cadance finds out about Shining's meddling she's going to cut him off for life.
7956920 nah, she won't cut him off for life, but he's probably going to be spending a lot of nights on the couch.
The answer is simple, they all just need a fivesome!
My dear Grimm, you are a master of your craft, but goddamn, don't make us wait as long for the next one.
NO WAI!
Honestl, it was so long that when I've seen a new chapter alert, I didn't even know what fic it was. Going to check it out once I have some time.
It has been a long wait, but totally worth it.
You, dear Grimm, have almost made me cry while I was reading this in my way to work. The way that you describe Twilight's thoughts and feelings... that chapter's end... Magic, dude.

Alright.

From your comment, it sounds like you think Night Light is faultless in all this, and I have to wonder, how? At most I can think maybe because most of his misdeeds have been reactionary as apposed to him instigating them, but he is certainly not innocent. 8036189 Well you see pumpkin, this isn't a Shakespearicles fic.
In my grand Sparklecest pièce de résistance, coming out later this winter.
8035895 ouch, think that's the first time i've been downvoted on a comment.
Did I missread the tone of the story?
The drama is better than the sex.
I came for the story, stayed for a drama.
Then I came for that too.
8036703 That's not my down-vote. I agreed with you on all points.
8038524 ah, ok. Then in the name tradition, i shall now apply a boot to my head in ritualistic fashion.
