The Sparkle family are going on vacation. While family holidays are often difficult, Twilight knows this one is going to be particularly bad. Mostly because her father doesn't.
Very nice chapter. I've waited so long for this and it was so worth it. Also, hate to nitpick, but there's one little spot where you forgot a quotation mark.
After I’ve seen how much it hurt every single pony I care about. Your father, your brother, you. I would never choose to put you all through this if I could change things. I wouldn’t be that selfish again.”
It was a normal fathers day until I turned on the PC and saw my "I-will-wait-even-If-thats-takes-forever" folder with one unreaded chapter...
AND IT WAS YOU! IT WAS FRE*KING YOU! HOLY SH*T YOU ARE ALIVE!
And only took a year and a half, but is good to see you and a new chapter again.
So about the chapter, I don't think I can say more than I did already, but I'll try. I had at the edge of my ol' pc chair in the conversation between the Twilights and the sudden meddling of Shining just made me scream like a fanboy. Another chapter well done.
Have a good day/night, see you again in a year or so. BUT PLEASE DON'T LET GO THIS FIC!
Don't mind me guys, I'm just going to sit in my shower and wait for the emotional void that this story opens in me every time it updates to close, or the water gets cold. Hasn't worked yet, but what's another go.
I can imagine that the truth has a solid chance of popping up during the next meeting between mom & dad, without their kids there to put the brakes on. Anyway, nice work, Grimm. Good to see you publishing on this again.
I absolutely adore this story. Seeing the update notification was a wonderful surprise, but at the same time I was dreading to read it. Knowing I'm going to become so heavily invested in this story again and that there may not be another update for years has filled me with a lot mixed emotions I wasn't expecting at all.
Shining Armor is still trying to push as much blame on his father as he can, I see. Trying to get back at him, it looks to me, and now that Twilight showed she's willing to take away that one weapon he had over her (telling their mother everything) he's panicking.
Shining's sense of comparing what happened between Twilight and Night with himself and Chrysalis strikes me as false equivalence, regardless of Twilight's inability to argue with him. He was being deceived outright and has nothing but animosity for the Queen, whereas Night Light and Twilight came about by accident and developed genuine infatuation and love for each other. Of course, I understand that Shining's problem is, so far at this point, that he is too worked up over knowing the issues from his mother's side and that he genuinely can't get past the taboo at play, and thus, the idea that this is his father's error and possible manipulation regarding Twilight can't leave his mind. Being a protective and caring older brother doesn't help, as he shows that he's having a hard time factoring Twilight's feelings into this, until it slaps him in the face.
I really am glad I peeked into this story, it's engaging, and really illustrates that love and betrayal can go hand-in-hand sometimes... and that the very feelings of concern and love can lead to you hurting the one you care for more.
8995814 9006591 Shining has definitely been the most interesting character to write in this. The fact that his struggles and inner-turmoil is sticking out above the rest given everything that's going on I think shows how fun he's been to write!
While his transgressions with Chrysalis is definitely a false equivalence, it's the only lens that Shining knows how to see something like this through. I think it's inevitable he could only see an affair as having one party being almost predatory on the other. WIth his mother it was easy to demonise the stallion because he never met them. This thing with Twilight is much more difficult for him to reconcile, because he loved both parties, and, being the protective older brother that he is, he had basically no other option in his mind but to blame Night Light for everything. He might not be completely wrong, either, depending on your interpretation.
9008557 9006591 Shining Armor is definitely messed up. Now wonder, since he was, well, raped.
At best, he "just" had sex with an impostor, which is enough to classify it as rape in many places. At worst, she had extended her control over him to that part of their relationship too. We know she was already directly taking control of his thoughts even before the wedding.
Of course he would assume the one "in control" of the relationship between Night Light and Twilight is the former, the older pony, and her father to boot. I don't remember if Shining Armor even knows the first time they were intimate, Night Light had no idea he was screwing his daughter while Twilight had offered herself up to be used by any stallion who would. I wonder how he would go about to square that with the picture of his helpless little sister. I mean, yeah, she was kinda helpless that first time, but not for the reasons he thinks.
You've created something ugly, poisonous, and utterly entrancing. The House of Sparkle is a house of cards, and the rot consuming the foundations is reaching a tipping point.
The subdued realism in everyone's reactions and emotions, both the secrets spilling out into the light where they can decay like roadkill and the ones still festering in the dark, the clusterfuck of motivations that don't make sense to the participants but push them onward toward doom... I've been riveted from the first chapter. The dramatic irony in those recurring flashbacks is just wrenching.
I hope that you'll not go the route of something as simple and pat as anyone dying, whether at their own hooves or another's. Living, even when it seems pointless, has always the more interesting choice to me. Even so, the emotional armageddon coming for Velvet in particular has been consuming my thoughts for days after reading this. The scene where she talks about getting burned has been playing on repeat in my head.
I'm in for the full ride, now, no matter how long it takes, and no matter how bitterly it ends. Keep up the miserable, vicious, horrifying good work.
9115515 Thanks for the kind words, that really means a lot. I'll try not to disappoint!
As for the death thing, while I don't want to give any spoilers as to my plans for the ending, I maintain that the story intentionally has no Tragedy tag (although it maybe deserves a Sad one at this point), and an ending like that would definitely warrant one.
I somewhat agree that death is the 'easy way out', and I think things like Game of Thrones have made killing off characters fashionable in storytelling at the moment. While character death can absolutely be a powerful tool, it can also be very cheap if done purely to wrench at the heartstrings. Either way, I can safely say that there's no place for it in this story.
9116855 Fair enough on the GoT critique, I agree that killing characters feels a bit cheap. (huh, almost a rhyme )
9115515 I never really expected to see this ending well for the characters, but c'iest la vie. This was a beautiful story, but also ripe for tragedy in my opinion. I expected the ending to be bittersweet at the least. I see the inklings of a Hamlet-ish ending, so I can see where that could be inferred.
I hope this is as enjoyable to write as it is to read! Love this story.
as this continues I still believe TV deserves all her misery but Shining is kinda being an idiot. I still think he is the only real victim in this scenario but yeah hes being the dumb.
9166759 I don't think anypony here deserves misery. Velvet made a huge mistake. So did Night, though to a much lesser extent. Honestly I think Twilight might be the most innocent party, and Shining is... well, he's forcing his opinion on the resulting chaos. He's not being injured by any of this.
9311738 I agree for the most part. Twilight is not completely innocent, and Nightlight's initial retaliation was just as bad (though understandable) as Velvet's original action. Shining is being affected by this but overall has no real say. he is just forcing his own opinions and guilt on everyone. he was brainwashed but still blames himself (idiotically) for it, and he believes that for him to forgive himself his mother has to be forgiven for making an active choice. all this will end up doing is ruining everyone's life and leaving everyone with no closure and his family ruined just as much either way. and the funniest thing is that this whole issue is completely cultural. in some cultures, sleeping with non-spouses is acceptable, others incest is tolerated or sometimes no one cares either way. overall this story falls apart if the culture and morals shift, because none are universal. Velvet slept with another stallion when she knew her husband would not be ok with it, Night slept with a mare (his daughter) because it would hurt Velvet which was petty, Velvet realized she had real feelings for he father who was hurting and needed someone who he could trust and did love, and shining is blaming himself for thing out of his control like so many victims do and deciding to force his opinion and guilt on everyone to make himself feel better. all I see in this story are selfish people making meaningless mistakes, and passing blame around to suit their own conceited ego's and pointless guilt.
The fact it was her father didn’t matter anymore; not when it felt this good, not when it was this intense.
Heh, I found myself mirroring Twilight's thoughts when reaching your sick little story's temporary standstill. Somehow you've made me support an incestuous relationship between a father and his daughter.
Though the big, gaping hole in between the last two chapters doesn't bode well with me.
Do my... Do my eyes deceive me?
A new chapter??

It's a Christmas miracle.
Wow, now that's a blast from the past. Last time I checked on the story was in 2015.
Christ, I just got the Pulp thing.. I am ashamed for not having noticed sooner.

Am so glad to see this fic get an update! Eagerly looking forward to the next chapter
4 years since it all started. Has it been that long? Great update, keep going, closure is good.
I can imagine that the truth has a solid chance of popping up during the next meeting between mom & dad, without their kids there to put the brakes on. Anyway, nice work, Grimm. Good to see you publishing on this again.
A new chapter after forever and Jesus F m8 I was ready for roads and bridges to be destroyed, but you pulled back at the last second you ass.
Damnit Shining!

You're thinking small time, friend. She's going to suggest a complete Sparkle family orgy.

I'm happy to be wrong!
Please tell me this isn't a fluke.
Finally, my favourite high end pony smut has returned. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for more chapters
