4774019 That's a good question, and not one easy to answer. All I can really say is that it's my story. True, there are other HiEs out there, but never one done by me, with my ideas and my style. I can only work towards making it as best as I can.

I've actually tasted dandelion stems and heads wen I was young. They weren't very good as far as I was concerned. The leaves are actually tasty in salads and even healthy with vitamin C.
On the other hoof, I found a recipie this year for dandelion flower buds, when they are small and round, about 1/2 inch or smaller.
Basically take 1/2 cup to a cup of buds, put then in a saute' pan and lightly saute' them with chopped garlic and butter for several minutes...
Dandelions aren't good. They're very bitter and the smell practically screams toxic. Never mind that humans can't digest them.
4964059 Admittedly, they are bitter, but they aren't poisonous. On the contrary, they are pretty good for you, a decent source of vitamin C. The ones that grow as weeds are apparently very bitter. Wild Ones are said to be better. Maybe cultivated ones as well. I've never had a chance to try them personally.
Daffodils are poisonous though, to both equines and humans. I'm going to be assuming they aren't poisonous in the MLPverse.

5410979 I'll admit to loving my ponification fics, but Eclipse Born isn't one of them. It's a [magic wielding] human in equestria fic. He's discovered a ponification spell. Temporary, moderate to heavy magic consumption at the time of casting, steady drain on magic for it's duration and admittedly potentially useful in the long run. But it is, in both form and function, a temporary spell. More akin to a changeling's skill than anything else.
