When the Darkness Rises

Tirek was running free through Equestria. With all the good magic he had absorbed nopony could stop him. All Unicorn, Earth Pony and Pegasi magic was gone, but the alicorn magic that was concentrated inside Twilight Sparkle.

In fear she decides to disobey her former teacher, Princess Celestia and turns to her friends. She made her way to Rarity to talk to her. “Rarity! I need to talk to somepony!”

The white unicorn was building a barricade around her boutique in order to protect her younger sister, when the upset alicorn arrived. “What's the matter, Darling? Is Tirek coming?”

Twilight shook her head violently, as she panted quick breaths. “No, he is still clueless what has happened, but he is after the Princesses magic!”

Rarity couldn't believe what she had just heard. “The Princesses are in danger? We have to help them!”

She wanted to brush off immediately, but Twilight blocked her path with her hoof. “No... The Princesses don't posses any magic anymore. Tirek will get nothing from them.”

Rarity didn't knew what to say. The imagination of all Princesses without magic was ridiculous. “No magic? Whatever do you mean, Twilight? There is no way magic disappears just like that.”

A little tear rolled down on Twilight's cheeks. “It didn't, they transferred it to me. I'm in charge of all good magic left in Equestria.”

Rarity gasped in shock as she looked at her friend. “All magic? Does that mean that he will hunt after you now? That's terrible!”

Twilight wiped her tears away and made up her mind. “As long as Discord doesn't tell him about me, Tirek has no clue that there even is a fourth alicorn princess. It is only a matter of time until he knows, so we have to find a way to defeat him. Together with our friends we might be able to stop him.”

It was clearly visible that Rarity was more than uncertain about this plan. “Twilight, we don't have the elements of harmony anymore. We can't fight him. Only you might be powerful enough to stop him.”

“I think she is right, Princess!”

Both of them spun around to this unknown voice. They were literally stunned in shock that Tirek has already found them. Streams of energy flew towards him as he consumed all magic in Ponyville. “Now this was the last bit of pony magic, only leaving you Princess!”

Before she could act, a bubble formed around Rarity and levitated her to Tirek. In the spec of a second, four other bubbles appeared. They contained the remaining ponies that represented the elements of harmony. “There is no way you can beat me without hurting your little friends. So what will you do?”

Twilight shook her head, she couldn't risk to hurt her friends. But she couldn't defeat him that easy. His voice broke through her thoughts like a spear of despair. “We could trade. Your magic against your friends.”

She looked at their friends, they screamed to ditch the offer. Twilight couldn't take it. She made one faithful decision to save them. “Alright, Tirek. Take my magic, but first you have to let them go!”

The bubbles sank to the ground and released her friends. Just as she wanted to get to them, Tirek grabbed her an extracted the magic out of her body. “There is no place for you here.”

A ray of energy left Tirek and hit the place where Twilight was hovering. The ponies gasped in shock. When the dust has settled, they saw that Twilight was gone. Tirek was laughing from the bottom of his lungs. “I've never said I let you go, Princess!”

They couldn't believe what the villain has done, but they still could do nothing against him. He grew in size and began to destruct his surroundings. They could just sit there and watch.

Twilight felt light and numb. She slowly opened her eyes and checked her surroundings. There was plain emptiness except for one familiar voice. “It is time to wake up, Princess.”

Twilight eyes snapped completely open. “Discord! What are you doing here!”

The draconequus shook his head and looked at Twilight with worry. “I saved you before Tirek could vanquish you.”

The young alicorn was filled with wrath in face of this traitor. “Why did you betray us and why are you helping me now!”

Discord couldn't look her directly into her eyes. It was too painful for him. “I'm truly sorry. I thought Tirek was trying to bring us to rule over Equestria, but in truth he just wanted to betray me as I have you. So I abandoned him. We have to stop him.”

Twilight could feel the honesty in his voice, but there wasn't any hope left. “It is useless. I lost my magic. We can't stop him. All good magic in this world is lost to him. He can even control the sun and the moon.”

“It is as you have said Twilight Sparkle, there is no good magic left, but there is plenty more where you would never even dare to look.”

Twilight didn't understand what Discord was trying to say, so he told her right away what his plan was. “Twilight... the only magic left is chaotic, full of wrath and fear. Tirek couldn't extract the dark thoughts of everypony. There is a way to collect all of it and challenge him.”

Twilight looked at Discord in disbelief. “And how are you going to manage that?”

Discord shook his head and laid his paw on Twilight's shoulder. “I won't. You will.”

Twilight gasped for air. “Me?”

His hand withdrew as he prepared to get rid of his magic. “I will give you my magic. You're the element of magic. Only you're able to control so much power.”

Before the young alicorn could react, Discords magic already began to flow through her body. "Listen Twilight, chaos is not equal to dark magic. It could corrupt me and bring even more mischief. I fully trust you to stay loyal to your attitude. I will keep a little fraction of my magic and enchant you. All dark magic will flew towards you. Prepare yourself, Twilight Sparkle."

Discord got rid of his magic with a loud thud. Immediately, dark magic began to gather inside her from all of Equestria. It didn't matter if colt or stallion, filly or mare. Everypony had dark thoughts.

Twilight could feel the magic empowering her beyond any limit. From the corner of her eyes she looked at Discord. “Thank you, Discord. I will give it back to you later.”

With this words, the Princess took of and left the realm she was saved to. It sounded like a breaking mirror when Twilight pierced through the wall of the real dimension. Tirek turned around and looked at Twilight in awe. “What happened to you little Princess! You look like Princess Luna when she has a bad day!”

A black necklace and crown was formed by the dark magic that flew through Twilight body, but she didn't care. “Tirek! You will pay for what you've done!”

Her friends looked at Twilight with huge eyes. “Twilight, is that really you?” Spike couldn't believe what has happened to Twilight. He never saw such a vast amount of dark magic. Not even King Sombra had such a dark aura.

Twilight charged without warning at Tirek and broke one of his giant horns. The giant being fall to the ground and only hardly managed to rise back to his hooves. Twilight hovered in front of him, ready for the next strike.

Just as Tirek charged his horn for a attack, dark tendrils extended from the ground and hold him down. The dark alicorn hovered down, just in front of his face and whispered into his ear. “I won't let that happen.”

Her horn almost exploded as the magic left her horn and reached inside Tirek. She tore the magic of Equestria's ponies out of him. The magic flew swiftly back to their owners. Tirek was left powerless and without any chance of defense.

Twilight charged her horn a final time. “Say your prayers!”

Her magic went down on Tirek and devoured his weakened body. In the very same moment, the Princesses returned from Tartarus with they newly regained magic, only to see what has happened to Celestia's faithful student.

Twilight shot into the sky and expanded her wings in front of the sun. A huge alicorn formed shadow was thrown on the ground. Tears, rolled down the cheeks of Princess Celestia. “Twilight, what happened?”

Discord appeared right next to her, with the little magic he had left. “My dear Celestia, not even darkness want the world to fall apart. Twilight wanted to have a purpose, so I gave her one.”

The purely white alicorn, shook her head in tears. “But not like this...”

The dark laughter of the dark alicorn in the sky resounded in the ears of every pony in Equestria.

Tirek has died, but now they have to face an even bigger evil. Darkness has once more fallen over Equestria.

I'm always up for a good "Twilight gets ultimate power and goes evil" fic, but there's a couple of problems with this one.

First off, the conflation of chaos with evil. They're not the same thing. Discord's power source is not "all the dark thoughts", it's disorganization, disorder, disagreement, conflict, strife, and ridiculousness. None of these are bad all the time. If Twilight absorbs Discord's power she shouldn't turn dark, but chaotic. He's not Sombra.

Secondly, if Discord has changed sides, and Twilight has no more magic, why give his power to Twilight? Why not fight Tirek himself? Wouldn't he be more adept at using his own power than someone who just now acquired it, Element of Magic or not?

This would work if Discord showed Twilight how to draw power from darkness, and gave her his own power, with the idea being that they are not the same thing and that having the two together would give her the boost she needs to defeat Tirek, because Discord isn't actually strong enough to do it on his own. In which case, the combination of chaos and darkness would be very very bad. The self control that would allow Twilight to resist the darkness would be damaged by the chaos, and while chaos itself isn't necessarily evil, there's a lot of evil acts that can feed into chaos. She'd be worse than Discord, worse than Tirek, and it sounds like that's what you were going for.

I talked with Lightning Hoof about a Sequel. He will most likely do it. I don't write that much anymore.
I will keep you posted about that.

Hey, thank you for your detailed review.

1) I never said that it is Discord's source of power. Discords magic should only give her a ... start up to give her the ability to collect dark magic.

2)Discord wasn't doing it himself, because he wanted Twilight to be corrupted. Which should be clear at the end. Where he "gives her purpose". I made some changes, so that it will make more sense. At least I hope.

3) Yep, Discord keeps a part of his magic to be able to protect himself. He wants Twilight to lose everything she stood for and turned her into a powerful enemy for Tia and Luna. Maybe we will see more like that, in a sequel.
