Harmonius: Song of the Imprisoned Maiden - Basic13

How was the Tree of Harmony created? Did humans ever come to Equestria? Are the two questions connected? Twilight dreams of fire and blood, and a chained woman who sings the same mournful song that she now hears from her Element.

Premonitions: Interdemind

In a distant universe known as Exa Pico, two planets connected by a thread of hope would come to meet the same dire fate of destruction. The first, Ra Ciel, would be consumed by its expanding sun, Bezel, and its inhabitants would take refuge in colony ship where they would sleep in stasis for 5,000 years until they awake, and through various trials and hardships, come in contact with the planet of Ar Ciel, which would sadly meet the same fate not even a thousand years later.

And now, a small planet named Equestria would meet the same fate it seemed.

Celestia laid upon floor of the thrown room, her wings bent at unnatural angels and her chest still. The stain-glassed windows that displayed the many triumphs over adversity of the pony race laid shattered, revealing a landscape of ruin, hellish fire pouring from the sky as if Hell itself had opened its great maw upon the peaceful land. Trees uprooted themselves, moving by the guidance of a malevolent will as they hunted ponies, their skeletal limbs seeking prey

A serpentine form watched over the chaos and death, laughing, its mismatched limbs striking a grim silhouette against the flames that had consumed the once grand capital of Canterlot. Beneath the patchwork creature, six ponies laid unmoving, as well as a number of human males and what appeared to be young girls. The elements of Harmony laid broken, their gems dark and hollow.

The creature laughed in wicked delight, however as he stared at the broken form of a yellow pegasus below him, tears streamed from his eyes as his laughter was tinged with grief, and horror danced in his maddened gaze

Mission begin

In the tower of Ar Tonelico, a silver robot came to life, lifting its head.

Author's Note:

Okay, so I just finished the prequel to Ar Tonelico, Ar noSurge, and I loved the story. To not spoil anything too much, it breaks the fourth-wall in pretty big way, but the elements and plot points introduced have given me the tools I need to take this story to its conclusion.

Buckle-up boys and girls, things are about to get weird, I admit.

Well, THIS is going to be interesting. I'm probably not going to use Interdemind for anything, although I might possibly do so in the future for a different story.

5132226 Yeah, I can now make self-insert cannon thanks to the revelations Ar noSurge dropped. Not that I am or ever plan to, but it has given me a plausible way to introduce the overarching threat without it seeming to be an ass-pull later on. Interdemind is wonderful in that it allows me to introduce a completely (to pony's perspective) eldritch being of foreign motives and morality, out of nowhere for just about any reason imaginable.

Currently, it is to just use Earthes as a plot device. And space robots are cool.

That being said, I take it you played Ar noSurge, then, my fellow Ar Tonelico fan?

If so, thoughts?

So far I've really enjoyed it, although I haven't finished it yet. I'm pretty close though (if you can PM me a spoiler-free guide to getting the True ending, I could use one).

The Interdimend stuff was really clever, although there were a few places where I think it made things worse, most notably the places where I could only get a thought gem by being a total perv. A couple times it gave me a choice between two options, both of which were rather pervy. Things like that kind of took me out of the "I am actually the guy on the other end" deal.

The gameplay is a solid step up from Qoga, since one of my big complaints, lack of variety, is dead. Each heroine has 10 songs with DLC, which is equal to the TOTAL number of song magics in Qoga. Also getting to select them at the start of the fight helped too.

The plot is pretty good, although there seems to be a plot hole related to the whole "sun gonna explode" thing.

It's no Ar Tonelico 2 but I'll give it second place.

The creature laughed in wicked delight, however as he stared at the broken form of a yellow pegasus below him, tears streamed from his eyes as his laughter was tinged with grief, and horror danced in his maddened gaze

:fluttercry: is discord being controlled?

5133050 I respect it for the world building it put into to the Tonelico series. Not sure where you are, but getting some questions answered and plot points explained really raised my overall enjoyment of the series as a whole.

Yes, it does lay on thick with the "Oh, Japan, you wacky perverts!" attitudes, especially as Earthes, but once I stopped being bothered by them and instead shrugged my shoulders and jumped onto the crazy train with gleeful abandon, as the game wanted me to, I found myself chuckling.

Overall, I would rate it Artonelico II, then I, followed by Surge, then III.

Sadly, the beginning of the game is, quite frankly, piss easy if you don't up the difficulty to hard, I feel that may turn some casual gamers off, who aren't playing the game initially for the story and lore of the series. Of course, it does suffer from being a direct sequel to Ar noCiel, and that hasn't been localized. However, while it it did a good job of partitioning and explaining things, I feel that you get much more out of the story and more invested in its characters if you have read the excellent fan translation of Ciel.

P.S.: I know I'm not one to really talk after a month of absence on this story, but can we expect anything from your Ar Tonelico story sometime in the near future?

5133965 Funny story I was going to put up CH4 today but my SSD got hit by a bug and I need to restore everything.

5135381 Why! Why must the fates be so cruel! :raritydespair:

Why is this on hiatus?

5135381 Chapter four of what?

Harmony Consultant. By pure coincidence, I started a crossover story of my own with the same second universe as this.

Chapter 4 of has been posted since I made that comment. I hope to have chapter 5 up soon-ish.

And I hope to have the next chapter up soon as well. I have all the events plotted out, it's just stringing them together in my head. But since I haven't touched it in a few months, I figured I should put it on Hiatus, for propriteries sake.
