Although the idea of Flim and Flam wanting to steal Pinkie makes me giggle.

4430380 What I know is that they can't have Pinkie. Not on my watch, anyway.
Now that I think of it, considering he was a colt when he left Manehattan, Cheese was still very impressionable, so that left him vulnerable to all sorts of influences. Canonically, Pinkie left a great impression on him, and as such he became the Super Duper Party Pony we know and love. The idea of someone else influencing him before he reached Ponyville opens up a world of possibilities to how he would have grown up.
Flim and Flam being an influence would certainly lead to trouble, especially with the "unimaginable evil" you mentioned in the description (I want to ask what it is, but I'll have to be patient). I'm very curious about con-pony Cheese.

Okay, I'll be honest--that shift to a changeling subplot was kind of jarring. I was wondering if I was reading the same story that the first chapter was in, at least until Cheese showed up at the end.
Also, each group in the class is studying the same historical figure? Hearing presentations about the same pony over and over would get kind of boring. 
There are other historical figures mentioned in the show, such as those in the Hearth's Warming Play.
Last thing, Pinkie's tail twitches mean something is going to fall.
Even so, I'm still curious about how Flim and Flam changed Cheese to what's standing in the doorway, and what kinds of effects it had on some of the events of the show.
