This is what I hated about their relationship. We were only told about it. Here's hoping season 5 fixes that. You did good here. Discord doesn't deserve a friend like Fluttershy.
For what it's worth, I think that the problem was that Discord had never really been on the receiving end before. He'd been punished but he'd never personally been a victim of a much greater power and betrayed in that manner. That's why his 'reform' was so shallow at first and I now think it's deeper and more permanent. Fundamentally, before the moment Tirek threw him under the bus, he'd never really understood what was so wrong about what he was doing.
For an abnormal personality like Discord, it takes having been a victim to learn empathy with your victims.
