I am truly disappointed, upset, mad, and disgusted with Rarity!
How dare she build up Spike's hopes, and crush them in one day. 
I commend Applejack though for being there and to comfort Spike as best as she could. 
However, I hope him realizing that Rarity was enjoying company with another stallion doesn't cause him to go full blown dragon. 
Rarity better think about what she's done, and she better come up with a real good bucking apology! 
I wonder how Rarity feels about tattoos, because she's probably gonna have a couple of permanent hoof-prints on her face pretty soon.
And that's before Twilight gets a hold of her.
No Spike, please, you can't let that beast side of you come to light.
However, I don't blame if it does, because of what Rarity done to Spike is truly despicable!

Well, in all honesty, running aimlessly into the Everfree alone is a qualifier for a Darwin Award, anyways. If it wasn't Spike, it would be some horrible monster tearing this guy to bits. Not sure which would be worse, though.
And I gotta say, while Spike will probably forgive her, Rarity is gonna be seriously on the rocks with Twilight and AJ, and possibly some of the others. She might be able to play the victim "Oh, I was used for sex" thing, which is true, but she still had been leading Spike along and stood him up. While she can claim this guy was one of those stallions (The one your mother warns you about), Twilight and AJ had to deal with the fallout and, thus, are probably still more likely to side against Rarity. Dash would probably see it as a breaking of Loyalty standing Spike up, but then again she might see Spike's affections as a kids crush and not think much since she didn't see the aftermath. Pinkie might take it a bit more seriously, but Fluttershy would probably not have it in her to get upset.
I will, however, stick by my previous statement, Rarity has a high likelyhood of ending up with some hoof-prints once she sees AJ
There's a lesson here, never hurt a dragon. You don't want to be on the receiving end of a pissed off dragon or their mother

What a tangled web we live......
All of this initiated because Spike wanted to show Rarity how much he cares for him. But then he has to suffer her lying to him by flaking on his picnic/date and not only did she flake on him, Spike with, Applejack as as chaperone, saw that was fucking some stallion that nopony (except her) even knew before. That results in Twilight attempting to console Spike since it's obvious that Rarity doesn't share Spike's feelings (Why else would she cheat on Spike, after she had taken her word to go on a date with the Drake?)......
Now if it isn't enough, Spike has to go on his own. He's heartbroken, mad, basically not his usual self. He sees the results of the affair--the stallion is leaving, obviously it was a one-night-stand, he sees that Rarity is rejected by the stallion because it was just a booty call, and hears that stallion says as much. Which brings us to witnessing Spike going all Alpha Dragon on the cheating bastard, as well as the disgust and terror that he he has basically succumbed to his instincts.
And now this happened.... I believe that Applejack knows what happened in the forest, and she understands the cause of Spike's pain. Bonus points that she knows all about that so-called story Twilight gave to Spike to console him.....NEWS FLASH: NOT EVERYTHING CAN BE SOLVED WITH A BOOK!!! WHAT THE HAY IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?! Spike already has issues with himself because he is a dragon, and he knew that nopony, even Rarity, with a sense of mind wouldn't come close to dating a dangerous creature as a dragon.
I can say that the shit is beginning to hit the fan in the next chapter. Spike needs to confess to killing Rarity's "coltfriend", Rarity needs to come clean with the Spike issue once and for all (do you like him, or not?)...And Twilight needs to apologize--I can handle that she's socially inept to the point that it's ridiculous, but seriously, if she can understands Spike so well, she should have recognized immediately that "The Scorpion and the Frog" was grossly inappropriate at the time.
Big shout out to Applejack who came to his aid in his time of need. And I loved how she had a counter for Spike's self-putdowns on himself. She did her duty as a true friend, Helping to lend an ear or a hoof.

I don't think that there is gonna be a split with the ponies.......this could really be a Rarity v. the other Ponies issue. Like you said: RD's loyal to a a fault. She probably will side with Rarity right to fuck any man she wants, but ultimately RD's gonna side with her friends, and that includes Spike. Twilight and AJ have already shown their feels with the issue. Pinkie wants to make everyone happy, and I mean everyone....And Fluttershy's just too kind to not ignore someone needing a bit a kindness---even at the cause of another friend.
I love the story. I can't help but feel that Spike will loose interest in Rarity and go after Applejack.
Rarity, you are PROMISED pain very soon.....
