A batpony in quarantine is beginning to transform. Already removed from his family, he now faces the fear of losing his younger brother as well, but with the help of fellow batponies, who have already gone through the transformation, he finds the courage to face his new life head on. On the way, he reminisces of how the current state of their lives came to be and wonders what the future holds. The answers he gets are as wonderful as they are frightening.

An interesting read and a very interesting look into a hitherto (for me) unimagined world. Mildly reminiscent of the City of Ember, which I also enjoyed. Please keep writing and opening windows into new worlds and imaginings.

Thank you for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

The City of Ember was actually part of the inspiration, along with an older book that translates to The Lost Man and deals with a similar topic. This kind of premise seemed to explain the existence of Batponies better than anything else I could imagine.

Astonishing story and also convincing gaze into this presentation of a previously (for me) non imaginative fictional world. Gently recalls the resemblance from another story called City of Ember, which i was also fond of. I kindly ask you to continue crafting your word webbing and also to open new doors into vast new landscapes and fantasy fabrications, because windows are hard to climb!

For a second I though that was a real comment. Touche! :rainbowlaugh:

I really like your vision of this! A transformation, not a disease. So the older batponies are like the white blind cavefish? Well, if not blind then decreased visual acuity. I would love to read more about these characters and world! <3

That was the idea, yes. Only, much like the cavefish, the batponies weren't always like that, but grew into their new environment through generations. I have no idea when (or if) a story related to this will see the light of day, as I have a ton of other works in the pipeline, but given the positive feedback, I might just get on it :raritywink:

3503092 And I have to say, I really wish I could have voted for this story in the EqD writeoff; but I could only pick three, WHICH SUCKS. It did however make the list of four contenders from which I had to choose two (because I'd already decided that 'I, Witness' was unequivocally awesome so that took up one slot), so that's something; it's either my fourth or fifth favourite story from the batpony collection.
