Herd initiation kisses. Hell yes.
4004356 I figured that would get a lot of reaction. The way I see it is if you have a pony that is already declaring an interest in joining a herd, then they shouldn't be opposed to something like kissing the members of the herd that they want to court.
...I need moar...

Does the next chapter start with Eric passing out from such a sight?
Finally, the ball. Also, good chapter! And long too!
Congratulations on writing such a large chapter. I'm really glad that Eric ended up in herd with three of the hottest mares in Equestria. Something tells me that HE won't be capable of walking during the following days. Furthermore, I can't wait to see his reaction after Eptinego's "initiation". BTW, good job in establishing the Equestrian Queen as a possible antagonist for Eric. I do have an inquiry. Will other mares or females...cough Zebra... attempt to join Eric's herd? Also, your depiction on how an engine works was brilliant and the courting dynamics of a herd kind of reminds me of the fimfiction classic Xenophilia. As usual, congrats and I hope that the next chapter comes soon.
noice
4004463 LOL unfortunately no. I've been putting this Ball off for too long, and I actually need to introduce the villain at some point.
4004574 Thanks wasn't really expecting it to be THAT long but that's what came out. I just feel bad that my editor/proofreader had to do that big of one for his first chapter.
4004723 Thanks I'm glad you liked it and I'm trying to get the Ball posted before the end of this deployment soon. Now on to your questions.
The herd dynamics I'm trying to make as uniqe to this story as I can and follow my own mold on it, but with as big of a universe and as many great stories as there is in the Xenophilla universe it's almost impossible to come up with something that's different. But I'm going to try as this story continues. The real problem for him is the fact that his possible future mother-in-law would like to see him dead, and may just do it when she finds out that he's romantically involved with her daughters and a member of the Elements of Harmony (more on that one later, not going to spoil the surprise ) As far as his hips being sore I think he'd die a happy man. Plus it's not like he'd be doing all the work all four of them are in a relationship with each other so more love to go around. Would make for some HOT clop if I was going to make this story go that way.
Now you know I'm not going to ruin the story like that, silly but good catch on the zebra mare. I will say that you will see more of her as the story progresses

How is that different from a normal relationship?
4005612 true enough
You have perfectly described my feelings when in the presence of a steam locomotive. I love to hear the hissing of the steam, the beat of the air pumps, and the clanks and groans from the boiler and firebox. Steam is not dead. It can be found at work all over the world, some doing what they were built to do, haul freight for a living, day in and day out, but most hauling passengers who want to experience what it was like to travel in a simpler time. The rails, and steam, shall never die! There is a certain romance to steam locomotives and rail travel. It can be found in the hissing of steam, the beating of air pumps, the hum of steel wheels against steel rails, and the lonesome sound of a whistle/horn echoing into the night. It was a way of travel that will never truly die. Amtrak is, in a way, not all that different to what it was like 50 years ago.
*gets of soapbox*
Sorry for that. As you can tell, I'm pretty passionate about history.
Also, When the motor was starting, I was imagining the sound of a Rolls-Royce Merlin V-12. Beautiful sound, that. Nothing like standing by the runway and hearing the sounds of an old warbird starting her engine and taxing before opening the throttle and lifting off into the sky. Can't get much better than that.
Honestly, as good as this chapter was, I was expecting more from the big herd reveal. Celestia and Luna are the ultimate authority in their country and are responsible for the safety of everyone living there - even if not everyone is happy with those decisions. Eric is one of those so regardless of his feelings on the bonding it was done for exactly the right reasons. Celestia and Luna should not like having to force it, but they are far too ashamed for having made the kind of decision they have to regularly make anyway.Â
As to the progression of the relationship, I was expecting a far more telling problem with bonding him. They hid from him for days simply because they tried to throw themselves at him? Their reaction doesn't match the severity of their actions. They were behaving more like they hadn't stopped when they did. Or they'd been leading him on for some nefarious purpose but fell in love with him anyway. Or that the bond will compell him to love them whether he wants to or not. Or... Or something much more objectional than what was revealed.
If they reacted this badly to throwing themselves at him when he didn't want it, but didn't go any further, does this mean that every time he's even slightly upset the princesses will be literally tripping over themselves to make it right?
I like the reactions so far but I think there needs to be something more objectional fueling their actions. Something Eric would actually be hard-pressed to forgive.
I have a question regarding herds. For herds, at least with ones a stallion, are all mares supposed to be bisexual? What happens if a mare is only interested in the stallion of the herd? Also, is incest legal in Equestria? I made the last question based on Pyre's comments about sharing Eric with Gilzia and how herdmates comfort each other, the kiss from 2 chapters ago, and your previous comment about how herd members must love each other. I mean wouldnt a part of Eric, that is not his hormone-filled brain, fine that part weird. Also, did Gilzia did something sexy to calm Pyre? I mean based on her moans in chapter 16 Gilzia may have done something pleasurable to quench Pyre's desires. Sorry for sounding like a perv, its just that herd dynamics and the incest are confusing to me, though the last one may have to do with Gilzia and Pyre being godesses and mythology has shows even benign deities to get it on with their family. Extremely long and weird message, heh.
4006660 Yeah I can understand where you're coming from, and I don't want to sound like I got lazy in solving the situation. However, I was trying to resolve the situation because I did believe it was dragging out too long and I needed to continue the story plot. Now I know it may not have been the best way, nor the most popular way, but the show must go on.
That being said I can't guarantee that the relationship is going to last or that he is going to stay in Equestria if an opportunity presents himself. All I can say for now is what you have read so far, Celestia and Luna are in a herd and they are currently courting/dating Eric and Applejack,
The bond as it stands right now is similar in nature to a symbiosis relationship, and it seems to be getting stronger, unknown to it's parties, Because even the princesses have mentioned that they don't know much about it.
4007355 As far as herds are going I'm going to say no. Each herd is unique in it's parameters, like any relationship on earth would be in dealing with intimacy levels and would be decided on by each of it's members. The main thing is the cohesion of the herd, and that each member is comfortable with the others. So while one herd may be a sexual free for all, another may only have a main relationship between the lead member and another. While the other herd members provide support, comfort and protection in the degree that has been accepted by the herd towards the other members of the herd. But like I said herds in this society are not a popular relationship dynamic anymore similar to arranged marriages, and is loosing favor to the idea of monogamous relationships.
The reason why Gilzia kissed Etpinego I believe was more as a test of her resolve on wanting to join the herd, than automatically being sexually attracted to the young farm mare.
Are Gilzia and Pyre in a incestuous relationship? I'm going to have to say yes and no to that one. They are obviously in a relationship with each other being in the herd together and it has been stated that they have slept together. But I'm going with the belief (and yes I'm drawing from a lot of mythology here) that because they have been alive for so long in their physical bodies and have only had each other to rely on over the many centuries that it was only natural that they would seek comfort with each other. That being said I believe that their relationship towards each other, both sisterly and otherwise, has progressed beyond anything that can really be easily explained.
And no Gilzia did not do something sexy to calm Pyre Alright I know no one is going to believe that , but I do swear it was only a kiss. Which given Pyre's heightened state of arousal (in heat, no magical suppressors, already close to orgasm, her natural arousal being augmented by the bond) was all it took to basically put her over the edge and she passed out. Reason for Eric to close his eyes was so that he wouldn't see it thereby running the risk of the kiss not being able to work or even Gilzia becoming susceptible through the bond.

I understand and support that, I just think that the princesses' reaction does not match what they did. Plus there are all manner of interesting things you could do with the bond. Maybe the emotions of each party can bleed over and influence the others - so part of Eric's reactions to the princesses would actually be their own desire for him to reciprocate. Likewise part of the reason they stayed away would be because Eric had wanted them to go away. That kind of influence would be upsetting, but probably not so bad that Eric would not be able to forgive.
Please don't take the "it's mysterious and unexplainable" route. It's just a relationship, not some mystery of the universe. You can just say that their age and reliance on each other has brought them closer out of necessity than most would traditionally be comfortable with. Their unique situation allows for a lot more leeway with fans.
Plus they can't make incestuous babies (as far as I know) which is a lot of the reason behind that taboo.
,.......,
I can't think of anything interesting to say
4011018
Funny enough that's one of the things about the bond that I've been trying to hint at. It's pretty obvious that both parties are being affected to some extent. The real question is how much? The princess's love for him is real, as is his feelings for them, but the emotional feedback that they're receiving from each other is influencing them. For instance, Eric should have been furious over the whole situation, but the feelings he was receiving from the sisters through the bond were interacting with his own, calming him down. So while he was still upset at them he couldn't stay that way for long, being as their feelings of guilt and sadness at him possibly leaving whittled away at his anger.
Yeah I was trying to say it in a way other than "Yeah they do the horizontal mambo."
4011038 I'll take that as a good thing.
Hey, just out of curiosity how tall is the guy compared with the Princesses and the Mane 6? I know that he's as tall as Gilzia but I don't think his height is mentioned and he comments that the girls are shorter than him.
4023246 I believe I mentioned Eric's height it in one of the first chapters, not sure though so I'd have to go back and find out.
However, Eric, Gilzia, and Pyre all stand about 6 foot. Even though I haven't put a number to it most mares normally stand around 5'3" and the average stallion height is around 5'6". Although you have some exceptions to this rule. Like Big Qeg/Big Mac stands about 6' and Wraspeoji/ Snowflake/ Bulk Biceps stands somewhere around the 7'6" mark.
4025898 That would be nice.
Sorry not Afghanistan, but somewhere within the AOR. Still thanks all the same.
Never thought a herd was that complex
4027303 Yeah really trying to expand this whole "herd" concept beyond it being a free-for-all. Just hope I can pull it off.
"Welcome to the heard."I kinda sounds like a cult thing, but thar makes it sweet.
4050792 The language is one that I've been creating using a mix of ciphers on the English language. The two main one's I've been using are A=E and A=H. The process is fairly straight forwards, like so:
Applejack using A=E is A=E, P=T, P=T, L=P, E=I, ... and so forth till you get "Ettpinego", drop a T and it becomes her name in the fictional language of Equis, "Etpinego". With me now being able to use "etpi" for the word apple and "nego" for the word jack.
Other words/names are slightly more difficult because they may not make much sense in the A=E cipher.
Like Celestia for example, when encoded in the A=E comes out as "Gipiwxme". Which didn't make much sense to me so I encoded it using A=H and got "Jlslzaph", while slightly better it still didn't really sound like a name for our beloved Sun Princess. Whenever this happens I take the letters from both ciphers and combine them till I get a word I like. So out of the words "Gipiwxme" and "Jlslzaph" I got "Gilzia".
Hope that kind of explains the process a little, and if you want I have a list of all the words and names that I have used already that I can send you if you want to use it for your stories.
I don't like to be the whiny one but when will the next chapter appear? Also, how old are the Mane 6 in the fic?
4069458 Already have the next two chapters done, just waiting for them to be finished at the proofreader's . Hope to have most of a third chapter done (if not finished) here soon before I finish this deployment and head home.
Sorry for any delay and added suspense this may cause I'm not the best writer on this site by far, so I'm sure there are a lot of mistakes that will need to be fixed. Apologies all around.
The mane6 was never given an age in the series (to the best of my knowledge) and this story takes place 3 years after the end of season 3. So I would have to say that their ages are somewhere in the 22-25 range. Atleast that's how I'm portraying them.
4069601 Thanks for answering and, btw, don't doubt yourself about the quality of your writing. I mean it, your chapters are entertaining, long, well-written, and don't take a lot of time to update.
4069640 Thanks, it's good to know that my ramblings can be somewhat entertaining Would like to be able to update more often, but like so many people who have hobbies life takes precedence.
Just read this again. Can't wait for the next chapter. Here is the engine I heard starting:
That chapter was entirely satisfying.
I may or may not have had a fan girl moment when they let AJ into the herd...... Yup.....is quilled like a bitch lol
Quite a Kirk Harem.
Starting to get a little ridiculous.
I find it shameless self indulgence that the princesses would fall for him, laughable that he would get them both. Ridiculous that he is just going with it....
But then you bring Applejack in... And all is forgiven, accepted, and thoroughly enjoyed!
I like this chapter the best so far because it examines the Equestrian romance structure and delves into the herd mindset which I find fascinating to contemplate.
Do you accept fan art? If so I'd love to sketch something out in tribute to this story that hath ensnared me!
Celestia, Luna and Applejack! This would be my ultimate herd!!
6612011 Here here!
If I was Eric I would've taken Applejack and just been friends with the Sisters.
...what.. I don't (I fucking died of laughing so hard)
Now THAT is how you end a fucking chapter!
