As a lifelong LEGO fanatic, I can tell you know that this is exactly what happens when you tread on an errant piece.
I went to hospital, was bedridden for two weeks and then my minifigs talked to me. I was their friend though. I rule as a just and fair god over my little city.
Sadly, after they took me off the meds, I couldn't talk to my men any more...
