An accident on Braeburn Apple's farm turns into tragedy, which causes him to slip into deep depression and alcoholism. His family has all but given up on him. He has lost faith in himself. Ho boy, GRiTS is one of my favourite songs by Cash. The fic wasn't half bad, good job. An interesting take on the song's meaning.
Awesome story! First off I want to thank you for not using the phonetic accent that most authors use for the southern/western ponies! The speech patterns are way more authentic than using Ah for I and clipping the dialogue into a stereotype. Casselman was an abrasive ass, but that was perfect! It's odd to say that I would want to read more about a villainous damned soul.
Also you wrote this story in a rush? Damn...The only problems I saw were minor issues with paragraph spacing, and one or two things with dialogue.
Nice work on this one. I think the reason why I like this story more is that the characters are much more believable and 'in character' than in say, Where Pink Hooves Have Trodden. This is much better written.
Also, as Word-Sight mentioned, not using the phonetic accent makes dialogue much easier to read.

Great story, I love ones that look into characters heads and break down why they're acting as they do, Braeburn's very in character, for someone as stubborn as he's been shown how he's acting makes sense, he'd probably respond better to someone like Casselman than Applejack
