Australian Chaos

T

Sequel to Magic in the Stars...I would advise reading that first before venturing here.

For nearly four months, a young pegasus stallion has been living a life many have dreamed of, but he alone has experienced. Starfall has been at Canterlot, undertaking advanced astronomy studies under the Guardian of the Night, Princess Luna herself. But in these four months, both pegasus and alicorn have been hiding a secret from the world of Equestria...a relationship that delves much deeper than that of student and mentor.

With this relationship keeping Starfall in near-constant proximity to the Lunar Princess, he has been training under the Royal Guard, learning the skills needed to defend himself, and the Princesses, should the need ever arise. But Starfall is struggling in his training, while Luna is dealing with her own personal issues in the wake of the return of the mysterious, ancient Crystal Empire.

The couple decide to take a trip to the mysterious city in the middle of Equestria's desolate Frozen North, Starfall to see if Shining Armor can provide a new insight to his training, Luna to search for answers Canterlot and Ponyville have both failed to provide. Both wish to also treat it like a holiday, and perhaps take some time to indulge in simple, romantic pleasures that have been sorely lacking in their secretive lives so far.

But as they get settled in to the Crystal Empire, demons from both Starfall and Luna's past rear their heads. With their shared world spiraling out of control, and dark forced looming on the horizon, can their secret relationship possibly remain hidden? Can it even survive the coming storm? Can Equestria itself survive? Starfall's courage and very life have been pushed to the limit once already. This time, it might not be enough...

I NEED MORE NOW! I HAVE WAITED TOO LONG FOR THIS. :flutterrage: INSTA-FAVE AND UP-VOTE!

Beautiful chapter by the way. And I do believe I found the reference. Not sure... gonna have to re-read it a few more times... Did I ever mention Magic in the Stars is my favorite fic ever?

This takes me back to when I first became a brony.

2709935
How so?

And to everyone else, thanks for the support!

“But you, my sister...you will live on, long after Starfall is laid to rest, his remains turned to dust, long after his memory had faded from the minds of the ponies we watch over, and long after his deeds have faded from the history books.”

The part where the Elrond is speaking to his daughter, Arwen, of her love for the human king
Aragorn. Correct?

2710268
Yup, that's the reference. It's not taken word-for-word...but Celestia's warning is very similar to Elrond's...and on a rather similar issue, too. I thought it would fit, so I dropped it in,

2710050 Magic in the Stars was the first fanfiction that I had started reading and this sequel fills me with nostalgia.

I've waited every moment for this.

It is good to see a sequel to Magic in the Stars. I read it on fanfiction.net before it appeared on this site and was quite impressed by it.

...

Dare I ask what the hell Luna is planning?

2711002

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Luna's master plan involves taking a page from her sisters book, and creating a scenario where Starfall Ascends into Alicornhood.

Besides, my dear sister... she thought to herself, looking over at the ornate marble throne sitting at the end of the room...Princess Celestia's seat of power. More specifically, she looked at a small pedestal beside the throne, where she could see a small, dark-covered, spiral-bound notebook, the old, faded cover having an image of two stars, settled within a swirling spiral pattern on it. You are not the only alicorn who can give the fates of ponies around you a little nudge from time to time..

And the best part? Celestia has absolutely no grounds to complain that Luna is "Playing God" or "Doing things that should not be done" because she's already doing the same thing by planning on Ascending her own student.

2712420 True enough.

The real question is, what would this do for Starfall's wing?

2716631

Honestly that already kinda bugged me in the previous story. Like Luna never bothered to learn a regeneration spell in how many millennia of life? Even if you only ever have to cast it once to save the life of one of your bodyguards or something after they get mauled protecting you from a rampaging dragon, it's already paid off. And don't try to tell me that she has enough magical power to either move the moon in its orbit or possibly just rotate the planet at will, but can't power a probably significantly less powerful and complex healing spell? Or even worse, no unicorn ever lost a limb, or had a loved one lose a limb, and thought "gee, this sucks, maybe I'll put that magic related cutie mark of mine to work and create a new spell so my daughter can run through the corn field again."

But back to your question, I suppose it would depend on exactly how turning into an alicorn works. It's a preexisting injury, but he wasn't born with it or anything, so it might regenerate on its own if and when he ascends, after all, Rarity's tail grew back the first time the M6 used the elements, and the Elements were involved in the whole process of Twilight gaining her new attributes from the other two tribes.

In the great words of Rainbow Dash as she would say:

OHMYGOSH! OHMYGOSH! OHMYGOSH! OHYMYGOSH!

Really it is AWESOME that you have the start of the sequel done and released already and so far this prologue chapter is great! Just the level of quality and detail I expect from you and it was great! I was going to mention about the immortality thing as I've played Fire Emblem Awakening where the player can fall in love with a (semi) immortal deity and as she mentions that they will be a time where they must part but that short brief moment is worth eternity for. And I see Luna saying just about that with her relationship with Starfall which is sweet and well said.

I would think even Celestia would long for companionship and the show shows that ponies can become Alicorns or unless it's only unicorns only I'm not sure. Either way I'm excited to see the next book of Starfall's life and I cannot wait to see what you have planned!

By the way are you still taking OCs for your story here? I was hoping you could include my guy Crimson Corona, my alternate pony world version of Chris Corona, into your story and have Starfall bump into him just once and for a brief moment and comments to himself that he looks like a friend of his from that "other world" he fall into a while back and keep that story of his adventures a secret (as a nod to that I planned side-story to write featuring our characters). My OC is a artist and writer who is a pegasus, like Starfall on the pegasus part, and he enjoys a good book now and again and is very friendly and out-going.

If not, that's OK.

Anyway I have yet to see a spelling or grammar error on this chapter which is great! It's flawless or nearly flawless in case I miss something.

I look forward to the next chapter of your tale! This is VirusChris once again has return to review your epic story! Cowabunga dude!

2717286 It could be simply that no one was able to make one. Yes, we see Twilight polymorphing things, but what would it take to make something like that stick and not vanish four minutes later?

Maybe the author will touch on it further.

2723886

I was thinking something more like "kick the bodies natural healing rate from 'Pony standard' to 'X-men Wolverine' for two minutes", instead of "transfigure the body back to its original undamaged state", though presumably transfiguration magic lasts at least long enough for a carriage ride to Canterlot, the Grand Galloping Gala, and a ride back to Ponyville, call it maybe eight hours or so as a bare minimum, since that was Twilight's original plan to get to the Gala in "The Best Night Ever." And while its been a while, IIRC Spike and Twilight were talking about his snazzy mustache in "Boast Busters" like it was going to be a more or less permanent thing, till she cast the counter-spell. Though to be fair, its hard to tell for sure since the show doesn't really showcase any particular kind of magic beyond bog standard Unicorn telekinesis, Pegasus weather control, Spike's fire breath, and Twilight's teleportation spells, at least not more then once or in great detail.

It could also just be that nopony's ever thought sufficiently outside of their box to realize they could create such a spell. Heck, the only bits of "modern" technology that I can recall off the top of my head is the occasional electrical device, that crazy juicing machine the Flim Flam brothers had, and trains. Other then that, pretty much everything is something they could easily have had back before Luna's vacation to the moon. Ponies seem to be slacking on that whole "Scientific progress" thing.

2723967 Well we got most of our tech because a lot of our progress was pushed forwards by wars, and the ponies lack wars.

It's possible giving someone a healing factor in that way is difficult to impossible, or no one's figured out how. You would bet that at the very least Twilight would be looking into such a thing at this point.

TELL PRECISION STRIKE THAT HE CAN GO BUCK HIMSELF :twilightangry2:
SERIOUSLY, DOES HE HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THEN PICK ON POOR STARRY NON-STOP? :raritydespair:
Ugh.
Anyways, why is this guy such a jerk? I understand that he's a royal guard and that they're supposed to be tough, but Strike is, wether he likes it or not, supposed to be Starfall's mentor and not be a complete jackass, yet he's still just all "STARFALL U SUCK U R A TERRIBULL PONEE AND SHULD HAET YURSELF HURR HUR HURRR" :flutterrage:
Rrrgghh I wanna kill him
Several thousand times

2743188 Not too mention a horrible teacher.

You figure out what the student can do, then start from there and help him go up. He`s not helping Starfall out at all.

Someone needs to take the stick out of his flank and whack his head with it a couple of times.

You made my OC an asshole, and I love it.
Maybe not what most expect out of their OC, but it being in the story is fine, I like the drill sergeant type of persona you gave him, overall it was a good chapter.
You got me wondering though, did Starfall actually learn anything, because a month of physical training he had to at least get slightly stronger, no matter how much he did he also should have learned a couple things, right?

2747379 One would think.

Although I suspect only slightly stronger. I get the vibe that the training has been 'Make the guy run around, then whack him alot.'

2754219
I suppose we'll find out if it ever comes into play.

Eagerly awaiting a new chapter :pinkiehappy:

I feel like an ASS. I didn't know this story was updated! For some reason, your story does not like to appear on my alerts list. Anyway, this was an excellent chapter. I feel like a shit writer in comparison. I have said it before, and I say it again: Go professional. You can make a lot of money writing. I am sure of it.

Luna brings up an excellent point that i like to argue. Immortality is not nearly as much of a curse that people make it out to be. While you may have to live through the grief of losing a loved one or several that doesnt mean everythings over for you eventually you will move on and then you may find another lover this does not mean you forget your old one they will always hold a special place in your heart and be immortalized by your memories. This will be the same for every lover you take afterward an immortal must learn to love more than one person if they are to live through their unending life. Each lover is special to the person and is never forgotten. The real problem is for the lover to be able to accept the immortal not dying with them or growing old to getther somepony as wise as celestia should know this

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
It's on..... on....... on..... HIATUS!!!!!!!!

King Sombra appears in this story, right?

No problem man, take your time! I love this story!

Oh my god... I was not expecting this...PRAISE THE HEAVENS :pinkiehappy:

*looks at email*

Shadows in the Past has updated.

what the hell was that one?
*clicks link*
*reads first line*
IT'S ALIVE!!

4417603 yaaay for new chapter!

Finally caught up, took a couple of days but I am here now.
Very much looking forward to reading more of your wonderful story.

Happy to see your story updated again my friend! Though I suggest you add a space between the paragraphs, no offense but it looks like a wall of text with those 5 or so lines of sentences in your story. Other than that it's great!

I know I went over the chapter with you, but I forgot at the end... was that line “So...how much do you know about the Crystal Empire?” originally there or did you take my advice by adding in a bit of foreshadowing and suspense at the end of a chapter? :derpyderp2:

Either way I look forward to the next update to your story! ^_^
:yay:

Clue to when next update is ?

Alright!!!! You updated!!!! I can't wait to see more of Starfall's romance with Luna!!!!

I have to ask though: why haven't you posted this new chapter on FanFiction yet?

Given how most military trainers are supposed to be total spit-heavy, curse-laden, nightmares to their charges, I have less reason to outright hate this guy for wailing on Starfall.

Nearly a year since the last update
*sighs*
Ah well

I shall perish if this does not continue. I hope you come back and finish this AC.

Hey, I've been reading this and have finished Magic in the Stars not too long ago on FanFiction. This is a fantastic piece of written work you take the time into making, and you seem well dedicated into writing good stories like this.

I know it probably won't be a while, but I'm hoping you'll start writing another chapter soon enough. Just take the time you need and when you feel ready, update at anytime.

Still, I'm putting this on my list to read just like with Magic in the Stars.

6477025
Awww, damn.
Well, I think it's all up to the author now at this point. If one thing, some inspiration can help the author out to continue. But the question simply is when it will be continued, or will it remain cancelled?
Nevertheless, I'm still keeping my eye on this story.

Hope you can continue this soon! I REALLY loved "Magic in the Stars". I really want to see where this story leads!

It's it's....... Canceled:applecry:
