Holy crap, is she a kelpie?!
What a glorious chapter, long and full of awesome! bravo man, bravo!
Heheheh, a whole year... interesting...
Keep it up~!
I like the new filly, may she be a kelpie, a drowner or something else ;]
...Whhaaaaaaaat the faaaack was thaaaaaat.
Scary filly is scary. I needed something good and long to read tonight and this was perfect.
Holly fuck it's the girl from the ring
As everyone else is talking about the filly, I do believe I will ask a different question. I do believe that half-breed are able to reproduce, this is just headcannon yes?
7025381
You mean that they can reproduce in real life? As far as I know hybrids like mules (horse-donkeys), zebroids (horse-zebra), zonys (pony-zebra), ligers (lion-tigers) are always sterile. The main reason is an atypical number of chromosomes the hybrid has. For example a zebroid can have something between 54-64 chromosomes, because horses have 64 chromosomes, while zebras (depending on species) have 32-46 chromosomes. And because each hybrid will have a different number of different chromosomes they will be unable to get offspring.
One additional question, because the chapter was heavy on family and siblings - is Scotch aware about the fact, that Blackjack's and P-21's twins have been successfully transferred to Grace?
7025986 I meant in MLP, as other fics seem to point at them being able to. (i.e. My OC Tempest is a Draconian, there have been Zonies, Hippogriffs, ect)
7024871
Sorry could you explain...
7025991
I don't think she knew about them at all but that's me guessing from the fact that Blackjack was trying to keep it a need to know secret and also keep Scotch innocent. But I would wait for Somber's answer.
Somber did Scotch know about Bouillotte and Baccarat in any sort of way?
7026534 the movie The Ring
7026414
Have there even been any canonical hybrids in any official MLP materials? I haven't been watching the show since Twilight became a false goddess and the entire alicorn deity concept died xD
7027130 Not that I have seen.
Great. Now I'm invested in this story.
And if this is going to be anything like Horizons, I'm going to regret that.
No! No, that was two chapters ago! Ugh, this is going to be where Riptide catches up to them, isn't it...
Well, ain't that a kick in the head.
I'm not sure whether I should feel giddy that she's trying to be comforting, or really really worried.
"Look at that! Maybe them bullets done your brain some good."
Ah. Okay, I'm glad to hear that Aleta's position is considered... extreme... even by other Carnilia.
Pfft, cute. Sure that's not just the object model that it's using?
That's an interesting way to put that... implying that the tribe's traditions are only backed up by the spirits insofar as the tribe chooses to make it so. Though he kinda makes it sound like the red stripes are less the result of a shaman cursing you and more something you would seek out if you felt strongly enough.
Oh... I wonder if he's kinda the only thing preventing a food shortage in Rice River...
Ohhhhh... so when Scylla talked about seeing others like Precious, she meant otherwise normal zebras who had alchemically/shamanistically grafted dragon parts onto themselves, not a full chimera like Precious.
Aha. Bingo.
I seriously never expected Carnilians of all zebras to be Space Catholic.
Oh my god. It's Max Headroom.
Oh, a pirate broadcast! I like this guy already.
Zebras in general are way, way too fond of "known facts" and "just the way it is."
This seems horrible on the face of it, since you presumably have to kill a phoenix (...somehow...) to get it. But, then, we saw that phoenixes have eggs and raise chicks, so maybe this is the only thing preventing them from overrunning the world...
Okay, the rest was freaky, but that's beyond the pale. Because it presumably means they had to take this off of a living unicorn...
Equine..? Is this Scotch never having seen a deer (antelope?) before, or are we looking at kirin here?
Don't worry, the main quests won't go anywhere while you handle side quests.
To be fair, so did the Enclave. Them holding the clouds in place was the only reason the rest of Equestria didn't recover to the same level sooner.
Gyaaaaaaaaah! That will never not be creepy!
Still curious what Wasteland's stake in all this is. Based on the doctor's story, I start to wonder if the Eye of the World hasn't been blinded, and needs to be. It sounded pretty benign, but I wonder if it somehow reinforces 'the way things are' and is therefore helping to support and empower Wasteland.
I'm positive that won't come back to bite us somehow.
I may be forgetting something, but isn't that the first ghoul we've seen on this side of the ocean?
Huh. Whatever tribe this is, they're apparently the Zebra version of stereotypical New Yorkers. (Apologies to any New Yorkers reading this.) I don't think it's Propoli, even though they're the city-builders. Xanthe was never described as having weird, swirling stripes like that (and while Blackjack can be unobservant, I believe she noted the narrow, daggerlike Achu stripes on Sekashi.) Anyway, I was under the impression that Propoli were kind of the "standard zebra" -- like if you just think about a random zebra, you're picturing Propoli stripes. Plus the Propoli we've seen had Latinate (or maybe Hellenic?) names, where the two names we've heard from this tribe have a very different sound to them. In fact, based on "Prince Hapahi of Tappahani" having such a similar form to "Hapihao" and "Hachipa", I'm going to go out on a limb and suppose that this is the Tappahani stripe pattern and dialect.
Ah, right... Tappahani are renowned for their feasts, aren't they? And that's, like, everything we know about them...
Oh, and Hapihao was the "best cook ever"! The context clues are coming together!
And Tappahani cuisine is roughly equivalent to Indian food. Good tip.
Woo!
So Tappahani have a repuation for being high-strung, then? I guess that explains why Hapihao freaks out at what is presumably a common sight in the "Black & White" household.
Waaaait. Would his name happen to be Nick Valentine?
Really? So much for my "standard zebra" theory. I guess the "normal" stripe pattern is Roamani, then.
I think Scotch just found a friend!
Uh oh.
Well, I guess we know where that drafty sensation came from now.
Well, as glad as I am to see that the psychopaths are getting along...
Hmm. Is that a way to make agloosh palatable? Either way, it doesn't speak well for the healthiness of staying here too long.
Yyyyeah, somehow I don't think it's Pythia they want.
Huh. That sounds like straight-up Proditor stuff, unless Carnico isn't actually run by Carnilian.
Uh... what? Like as in the French astronomer? I'm very curious as to what object in the sky she's referring to.
...huh. What a twist. (I mean, for a Fallout story, anyway...)
That is, unless everything explodes and burns down in a few days, which is a possibility I wouldn't necessarily discount.
How odd. Is that a fashion choice, or some kind of inverse-proditor curse?
Not sure I like the implications of the potential resonance with Blackjack...
Oh, someone's got quite a curse there...
(I've got a jar of di-irt...)
Why do we bring these two to negotiations, again?
Yyyyikes. What in the...?
Well, if she's really Riptide's daughter, she can't be Starkatteri. Extreme shamanism? Some kind of sacrifice to a dark power? Perhaps somehow related to the flyers?
Ah. So it's some kind of alchemical-biological-shamanic combo deal. Given the pale flesh of the resulting creature, it kinda sounds like the victim is not so much transformed as devoured.
I wonder if that's a "don't" or a "can't"...
Don't blink.
Holy Celestia. Is she... somehow... the living embodiment of Okambo? Does it still exist because it periodically binds to somezebra to keep itself running?
That is waaaaay too close to what the Eater did for my comfort...
7025381
Well, it depends on what you mean by "half-breeds". Hybrids -- mules, for example -- are almost always sterile because their chromosomes don't match up. We know zonies are sterile in this story. Once in a long while, though, a real-world mule has the ability to breed true, so there's that.
Now, the products of Project Chimera are not genetic hybrids at all, but, well, chimerae. That means they are physically composed of one-half cells from one creature and one-half cells from another. That makes them something of a wild card. I would suppose that Precious could reproduce with either a pony or a dragon, depending on which set of cells produced the egg cell in question. Though, since ponies give live birth and dragons lays eggs, her body may not play nice with itself. I don't think a pony fetus would appreciate being encased in an egg, for example. The hormonal signaling during development might be problematic, too, if the "pregnant dragon" hormones were unintentionally giving a pony fetus instructions that weren't intended. On the other hand, the hormones might be different enough to not even speak the same language, but that might even be unhealthy for her -- I have no idea what would happen if her pony half were saying "I'm pregnant" and the dragon half didn't react appropriately.
7025991
I dunno. I would suppose that she's aware they were transferred, but she definitely doesn't know to whom -- one of Grace's conditions was for that to be kept a closely-guarded secret. The only ones who knew were Glory, BJ, Grace, and the doctor.
7027130
Not in G4. They're pretty circumspect about babies in general; a hybrid would just raise way too many relevant questions.
Now, I can't necessarily speak for prior generations, but I think they stayed far away from topics of reproduction -- baby ponies came from a magic mirror in G1, for heaven's sake.
7031006 And to that, I have absolutely nothing to say.
7026856
I see... seems fitting however I never saw it.
Both, actually.
Jeez, I didn't even know this story was actually happening, let alone already over 100k words. Guess I should power through my RIL until I get to it...
7030603
Yeah, there's a point where I have a lot of trouble feeling bad for them, certainly not unalloyed with assigning them blame, and they're pretty far past it. Granted, at least they're more consistent and (so far it seems) less sanctimonious, at least where outsiders are concerned, than Velvet Remedy.
Yeah, it does seem like there are multiple paths to ending up with the red stripes, especially considering Peppermint. Granted, it’s also possible that the kind of perceived betrayal of the Proditors fighting for Equestria was categorically different, and they just kind of took up the name and color on their own rather than having anything to do with the spirits.
And yet another case of Blackjack not really being aware of the details. Or, perhaps, focusing on the success rate.
In a different sense beyond the pale, perhaps, but given some of what we’ve heard, I wouldn’t be that surprised if it was donated. Think Repo.
Maybe it's the Messier objects as a class?
Great so far. Alamut, I also find myself wondering about Blackjack's children. I doubt we'll see em in this story, though, considering the whole "other side of the world" thing. I can dream, though haha.
7043691 Messier is the nebula that forms the 'crotch' of the constellation of Orion.
All aboard the nope train! All the way to Fuckthat Ville!
7094423 She still has the boat.
How does tribe inhertence work anyway are there dominant tribes pr something? Shouldn't Impali and Majina have been part Zencori and part Starkatari?
7103579 They're Orah. Worthless. Also, tribe is passed along maternal lines. Sires give more physical traits to the young.
7067130
I'm sorry to resurrect this, but I didn't see the response until now. Orion's "crotch" (more politely described as the knife hanging from his belt) is the great Orion Nebula, also known as Messier 42. There are 110 Messier objects (abbreviated as M1 through M110) which Charles Messier catalogued during his hunt for comets. They're a mix of galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, and a few assorted oddities that he noted so he'd stop spotting the same non-comet objects that look fuzzy through a telescope.
I don't get this story.
It started as Fallout Equestria.
Then it became Pirates of the Carabeans.
It pass through some kind of survival in the swamp that is one of my fantasm : The Wasteland where nature took over and is your enemy.
Then, we had a bit of Mad Max.
And now we're going more and more in some kind of creepy fetishism, voodoo, horror movie, I don't know what.
Seriously, I don't know where it's going, I don't think it should be limited to a Fallout Equestria tag, But I'm onboard.
Just add a bit of the video game Rage, and that would be perfect for me. XD
I'm confused what the deal was with the worms, but let's see where this is going
Can help but feel Carnilian's would severly appreciate ninja sex party....SOMEONE GET DANNEY ON THE HORN WE GOT HIS NEW TARGET AUDIENCE!
Hello tapeworm child. No, sleeping is for the weak. Thanks.
In the original story, Miss Precious had an horn. Please fix.
It would be nice to have Miss Fluttershy and Mister Spike reunited with their daughters (I caught the clues about the same scale-coloring of Mister Spike and the eyes of Miss Rarity).
Oh no thats fine, i honestly didnt want to sleep tonight.
Also i completly retract my previous statement about pythia. When are Scotch and Majina gonna 'bump'
“Point is, there are things we can explore here.” May as well be a declaration for this whole shebang.
I love reading the fallout equestria fic in general! But this part made me think of Bioshock Infinite
“I got four food chits here! Four food chits! Fertilizer duty. Who wants to shovel shit?” And then they would pick four out of the crowd of thousands, sending them back towards a special gate. Some received two chits. Some three. One stallion was awarded ten, much to the howls of anger from the mob of those unpicked. The majority were left waiting and waving their hooves as jobs were called out.
Oh my fucking God those wo rms
I feel like Scotch has this backwards, and everyone is cursed. Like being a guest on Oprah.
er, blowing *off?
Is he supposed to remind me of Dr. Demento?
That's ... not a good sign.
What's a cow noodle?
I dunno, but I kind of want to find out.
Can't wait until they get there.
Not sure that's a good thing.
I give it a week.
... Why do I have the sinking feeling this is one of Amadi's children?
I ... uh ... Riptide's obviously Deus' favorite word, but now I hope the kid's adopted.
= son of a farmer.
What a nice name. Too bad he died brutally.
I wonder if he ever reincarnated as a bird or another pony?
It would be a nice thought in such a dreary world.
For some reason I just can't help but take that threat seriously.
Welp, better not make any bugganes or draumr balaurs.
Scotch, you're gonna start getting your name mistaken for beer if you keep this up.
I liked "Road Raider" and "Mangler"!
I'm with her on this one.
Dragon Filly: 1
Everybody else: 0
Ho-lee-shit
Enough about those "kind eyes" this mare is friggin' loaded!
Wow. She's badass
Riptide...you monster.
That filly is deader then dead. She don't need a doctor. She needs an excorsist and the GhostBusters.
8096290
Sinking. Heh. Well would that mean that Riptide is one of his wives?
Cause I don't see this girl dating that control freak.
Well...if that isn't a pretty sight to behold?
Well if you pop over to the society you'll see yours.
Don't tell me Riptide spliced her with a parasprite or something. Or given the water, maybe a kelpie.
Oh well, this thing vs Precious! One chimera vs another should be interesting.
what the fuck. That’s way to familiar for comfort. Demon monster confirmed. Cutie mark Crusaders demon slayers.
Was that a Pony Town reference with all the hybrid Zeebs walking around?
Feels like there's gonna be some shipping between Scotch and Majina.
Scotch spouting out about Blackjack and sex in that scene wasn't written very well. And her reaction to Majina's question about sex didn't seem to be Scotch at all. Wasn't there a bit of dialog in PH between Blackjack talking to Scotch about pulling aside a colt(s) from Chapel for sex?
You'd think that be something Scotch would be open to talking about with her friends. Just much less lewdly than BJ. Especially after the question scotch asked the doctor about having sex with her.
Same goes for the dialog with Vicious about Scotch getting stripes. Then that small tangent about finding Zebras with fetishes for work. It read like it amounted to "heyKid, you can get laid if you get stripes". Especially when you pair it with what Scotch Tape was questioning her about life as a Pony in the zebra lands. I was interested in hearing more from Vicious on that subject, but sex was used as a cover instead of gaining more interesting dialog. That said. Im hoping Scotch ends up preggers with zebra or pony babes, and has to face possibly seeing Dr. Iforgothisname. I practically feel it coming. It feels just like when BJ saw rape for the first time and said she "didn't want that to happen to her". I didn't see ch.33 coming AT ALL.
If they do stay a whole year that'll give Scotch time to read Zebra. No computer terminal will stand in her way!
I'm starting to associate "cursed" with "blessed". Since the zebra language is very open to interpretation. Scotch Tape could be "cursed" with good vibes the same way anyone else could be "cursed" with stubbing their toe all the time.

[Also Riptide stop feeding your little Ringu filly junk food! Is not good for her! No wonder she is all bony, poor little baby. :( ]

Okay now we know how these fliers are made. Riptide has access to her very own Las Plagas. Still makes you wonder how she got them. A pre-war weapon she discover? A gift from someone else? Or is it her own creation?
RIP Lamprey. I would say getting killed was more merciful, but the last sentence…. It's obvious that there's somethign very, very wrong with Niuhi. She probably not just some sort of exotic creature or a Zebra with body modification. What she did to Lamprey screams Eldritch Horror to me. It’s also interesting that Riptide doesn’t even know Scotch’s Name. So maybe she’s killing her because of a prophecy?
Looks like our heroes are going to stay in Rice River for a while. Probably not a bad idea. They really need money, weapon and resources. It’s a miracle that they already made it through the swamp with nothing but a few supplies and no gun.
I think you mean Injury.
Something tells me he's not referring to Pythia, I say while chuckling and shuffling cards.
I'm trying to make sense of this-
1. Hire a dragon filly to protect Dr. Galen.
2. Imply punishment in the way of physical violence for Dr. Galen breaking a deal.
3. Claim that said Dragon Filly's protection of Doctor some how pays his debt.
4. Dragon Filly protects Dr. Galen.
5. ___________
6. Vega profit?
The only way I see this works is if Vega garners a percentage (or all) of Precious's earnings as a body guard for a year's wages. So basically Precious becomes an indentured servant of The Syndicate. Given the fact that Precious's life was saved by the Doctor using expensive and rare healing ingredients, one year I guess is what counts as fair in this savage world.
