For so long, Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow stood paralyzed in their stone cacoon; unable to move. To speak. To do anything. But that didn't mean they couldn't see or hear everything around them. For age after age.

It was supposed to be a simple spell. How did I make it? Just to test a theory. Just to see what was out there, beyond reality. It shouldn't be possible It wasn't able to affect anything. Why did I do this?

The time comes for all students to step out from under the shadow of their teacher and choose their own path.

On that path, knowledge is power, but if it all goes wrong... if that power is put into the wrong hooves... how far might somepony who is trying to reconcile the position of teacher with the duties of ruler be forced to go to fix these mistakes? What level of personal involvement in being responsible does she owe herself and her people?

...And how much is it going to hurt?

Mistwake, a young hippogriff student, begins attending the School of Friendship. Her roommate is annoying, she can't stop thinking of home, and there's something off about her pink-haired professor. Horrors hidden in the dark are beginning to reveal themselves.

When her roommate starts coming back to their dorm in the middle of the night, she knows something is definitely wrong. Or is it? Students overworking isn't exactly breaking news. Then again, what exactly could she be working on in the middle of the night?

(Written for "A Change of Pace" Contest. This is my first piece conceived and written for a contest. I'm not exactly sure if I made it on time for the deadline because of timezone differences. If I did, neat. If not, I still like the story. Also, it's written for the Halloween season. Boom, two birds with one story.)

In the dead of night, a thief breaks into the royal palace in Canterlot to steal Celestia's crown. She successfully sneaks through the palace and enters the room where this prize possession is kept, with not a soul the wiser.

Well, save for a certain Princess.

Twilight Sparkle is returning to the Crystal Empire for the one-year anniversary of Sombra's defeat. The whole kingdom is preparing to celebrate.

But four crystal ponies are preparing a different celebration. The pieces are moving, and their plot is almost complete – Lord Sombra's last, most faithful servants will have their revenge. Twilight Sparkle and all her filthy kin will die.

Now, in the final hours of their plan, something has gone terribly wrong. One of the four is a traitor. Everything is in jeopardy. And once again, the fate of an empire will be decided at the Gate of Heavenly Peace.

Twilight was never one to break the rules, but she has an unexpected experience when she enters...the door.
