Takes place during the episode "Crusaders of the Lost Mark".

How can this be true? When the sun was later in rising than it should have been, Princess Luna became concerned for her older sister. No pony had seen her since Princess Cadance and Shining Armor's reception had ended late the night before. However when Luna went to urge the moon down hoping to nudge Celestia into completing the cycle, her magic brushed against an aura she had hoped and prayed to never glimpse again.

Had her inability to protect the ponies she cares so deeply for, driven Princess Celestia to do... The unthinkable?

Twilight Sparkle has faced many things in her long lifetime, but the one thing she always feared facing was the loss of her friends. How do you say goodbye to the ponies who made you what you were, who gave you the lessons and gifts you treasure so dearly? Celestia could see that her student was tired, and longing for what she had so many years ago, so she offered a choice to her most faithful student.

But how do you choose between forever, and one last moment with your friends?

Luna is through with Celestia making excuses for why ponies don't show her the love and admiration she deserves as co-ruler of all Equestria.

But when a towering monster appears and tells Luna that she can bring her sister to heel and be properly appreciated, Luna remains wary. She is no fool like Sombra, to fall prey to the darkness.

But this "Nightmare Moon" knows too much. Who is she? Why does she bear Luna's mark? And why is she so confident about the course the future will take?
