After many arduous and hilarious journeys, the (former) Dark Lord King Sombra and pro journalist Coffee Talk are finally close to the Crystal City. It would make sense for them to be glad that their hardship is over, but they've been through so much together! Are they really going to go their separate ways after all this time?

This story is based off of the wonderful characters created by the comedy wizard known as Wiggles, whom graciously gave me permission to write this fluff. This story will not make sense if you haven't read Ask-King-Sombra up to where it was around last May (I haven't read it since then so that my perspective for the story wouldn't change. Look forward to reading more, though!). I highly recommend that blog if you haven't already read it, it's changed my life for the better a thousand times.

A crystal pony thinks back to the time before King Sombra's reign, when he was a normal and she was his very special somepony.

With Hearts n Hooves Day approaching in the Crystal Empire, King Sombra is faced with the unpleasant reality that he has been neglecting the affections of his chief consort, Nyx. It makes him realize some things about himself he isn't particularly happy to face.

I am open to experimenting with new ways to write our King of Shadows as long as they aren't grossly out of character.

Okay...if you've been following me for any length of time, you know that I hated Siege of the Crystal Empire. A lot. I've gone on record and said I consider it the worst comic IDW has ever produced. And that I considered Radiant Hope unsympathetic and do NOT like her.

But I ALSO said I had intents to do fix fics because I felt the amount wasted potential in that comic was a large part of why I hated it.

So when I got this commission, Holycross let me try to fix some of those issues while I was at it.

Note, I didn't say an ACCUSATION fic or a 'beat up the character I dislike' fic. I don't blieve in those.

This wasn't easy to do, given my feelings for the subject matter, but I'm okay with how it came out, I hope you like it!

Sunburst was just out on his daily explorations across the Crystal Empire when he finds a strange shard. A rock really.

He quickly realises what it is, or rather who it is, but, before he has a chance to act, he's captivated by Sombra's voice.

He brings him into his own house, and from there a relationship starts to develop

A frustrated young orphan colt with a talent for painting is determined to run away from his dead-end rural village for the distant cultural haven of Baltimare. All he needs to do is slip aboard a raft and drift down the river Fen until he reaches his destination. It’s a simple plan, and would have worked just fine except for one thing.
