This story is a sequel to The Blueblood Papers: Bound By Blood

The Heartlands Campaign has reached a stalemate, and the Guards Division pauses to lick its wounds and prepare for the next offensive. While on leave, Prince Blueblood meets his hero, A. K. Yearling, and is dragged into a Daring Do story he would much rather have read.

Having survived their trail by fire as drafted soldiers of the Legion, Trixie, Blossomforth, and Coco Pommel have been assigned to a newly formed unit called the Underwatch. Its purpose; to investigate and counter the newly discovered threat of a race of giant underground dwelling spiders referred to in Legion folklore as the Lurkers. Now part of a patchwork unit made up of various Legionnaires from all across the Barrier Lands, Trixie and her friends must contend with the extreme personalities of their comrades as much as the danger they'll be facing in investigating the machinations of their arachnid adversaries.

This is a sequel story to Legionnaires of Equestria, and is based upon the Upheaval series by Visiden Visidane.

Realistically, they have options. For example, they could flee to another country, except that the Princesses could track them down and besides, one of those borders just effectively closed. There's probably some caves around which nopony's ever fully explored. A life spent reeking of fur dye might be possible. Or they can just stay in the hallway outside the throne room, waiting to be called in so they can explain how their good intentions turned that last mission into the biggest fiasco in Bearer history.

...so where were those caves again?

Princess Twilight Sparkle was nothing but diligent in her studies—from arcane history to forbidden spells, her knowledge knew no bounds. Of course, one thing remained entirely foreign to her, and that was the concept of a social life. Queen Celestia, dead-set on correcting this in one way or the other, sends her daughter to the quaint town of Ponyville to oversee the preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration and perhaps make a friend or two, setting in motion a series of increasingly more unlikely events that will change the young princess’s life, as well as the lives of those around her, forever.

A nation fractured and surrounded by enemies, a physically weak ruler who struggled daily to maintain an empire that weakened with each passing year. Together with nobles increasingly ambitious and emboldened as the emperor's authority dwindled.

All this added up to a powder fuse for a nation that would explode into conflict with the ambition of the various duchies and counties that already wielded considerable power.

And in the middle of all this chaos, he is born.

An old spirit in a young body. The first and only heir of the Von Greifenstein dynasty and the last hope of a declining Griffonian Empire.

Grover the Sixth, Emperor of the Griffons.

Crossing Guard works in Equestria's Immigration Department: among other things, he serves as the final check on whether a non-pony can take up residence in Canterlot. It's not a simple job, especially given the follow-ups when a new resident or citizen-in-waiting inevitably gets into trouble. But Gerald Gristle is an exceptionally calm applicant, Crossing's tired from a long day, and so he allows the griffon to begin the five-year process, with the announced food supply business set to open two weeks in.

Which is when Crossing finds out just what kind of food the griffon is supplying.

After all, carnivores and omnivores have to eat too...

(While this story is a direct continuation of an existing plotline, it has been written to be accessible all on its own. You do not need to have read the previous works to understand and enjoy what's here.)

Recently returned from the world of Everglow, Lex Legis, a brusque but brilliant unicorn, has finally achieved his dream...after a fashion. Convinced that he can govern Equestria better than the alicorn princesses, he and his new girlfriend, Sonata Dusk, have negotiated for rulership of the distant city of Vanhoover, devastated in the wake of the elemental chaos that has rocked Equestria.

But Vanhoover's problems go far beyond simple disaster-relief, and the pair soon come to learn that maintaining their dreams might be even more difficult – and more dangerous – than achieving them ever was.
