Some historians or mages acknowledged its existence, but only in the context that the world lost a great spell caster, and with him much untapped knowledge. Nopony saw it as a day worth commemorating, worth remembering as more than a trivia question.

Yet, for Princess Celestia of Equestria, it was the day she’d lost her best friend. So she takes the time to reflect on their friendship.

You remember Canterlot. You remember the taste of victory. Across a thousand years and a hundred lives, it was the greatest joy you had ever felt.

And then, in a flash of heat and unbearable light, it ended.

Now you are alone. The rest of your kind are dead or scattered, and you cannot hear their thoughts.

There is a void inside you. A gnawing, endless hunger you cannot escape. It is killing you.

You need love to survive, but there is none of that here. Not for you. You can only steal it from them, these ponies for whom we are hungry.

Twilight Sparkle has led a good life. She's become a princess, been on lots of adventures, made a lot of friends, and read a lot of books. A pity the books don't love her nearly as much as Twilight loves them, or she might not have been killed by one. But it's alright, this skeleton fellow talking to her seems nice.
