While on a trip to Canterlot to do some research, Twilight happens upon a dust-covered book titled Insane Edicts: A Legal History of Equestria. Sure, the book seem innocuous enough, but when she opens it up she discovers that Celestia is far more eccentric than she'd like to believe.

Ever since she was a filly, Applejack has lived in Manehattan. And ever since Nightmare Moon took over, she’s had plenty of work as a private eye. When a tall stallion walks into her office and asks her to find his missing fiancé, it seems like just another case. But when a trail of clues and bodies leads her deeper into the darkened heart of the city, Applejack may find herself in over her fedora, and quite literally gambling for her life.

In Ponyville, very few citizens ever find themselves in need of the police. Nevertheless, they have as motley crew of investigators. Counted among those ranks is Cold Scent, director of cold cases and official archiver. Life has been dull for Cold Scent, but he likes his job. Then he gets a visit from someone he never expected.

The caseless detective finally has a case.

Trixie Lulamoon is traveling the same route through Equestria that she always has, pulling her show cart and only home behind her. When a wheel on that cart cracks and Trixie finds she can't fix it herself, help arrives in the form of a pony who leaves Trixie frustrated and confused, and perhaps just a little intrigued.

Young Applejack comes home, and she has tears in her eyes. When her Granny asks her what is wrong, she learns that on Applejack's first day of school she was bullied by her classmates because of her freckles. Luckily, a certain pony has a cure for tears, and a bandage for broken hearts.

Everypony is used to Rainbow having a big ego, but one day, the ponies believe her ego has grown to big. They quickly ask beg the town princess for help. Twilight reluctantly give in, and casts the spell on Rainbow. Now, her life is constantly at stake.

Fluttershy hears it. She hears it all the time.

Ponies always talk about Discord--they whisper about him, even when she and her friend are around them. Ugly, they say. They find him ugly! They think he's a beast!

It makes Fluttershy's heart ache. She's afraid their words are hurting Discord--that he may think he's ugly too, because of what they say.

So when she holds an event for pets in need of adoption, and the gossip starts again, can Fluttershy stand up for him?

And what in the world does Discord mean by "You'll figure it out"?!?

The gentleman criminal kingpin, Dapper Moon, had finally been captured, but with the use of ninjas, bribes, and the occasional bit of common sense the fiend escaped. Now he is holed up in his evil lair, an old zebra temple in the Badlands.

Celestia weighs her options, and chooses Flash Sentry to be the one to hunt him down. The question remains, is Flash Sentry a bad enough dude to get the job done?
