For generations the ponies of Equestria called eclipses by the same name, even while divided by fear and hate. All celebrate it the same way, displaying their affection and love for their close friends and family. To this day, nopony remembers why.

Sunny Starscout discovers this mystery when she and her friends prepare to celebrate their first Sisters' Moon together in the Crystal Brighthouse, and she wants to know the story behind the holiday that bound them even before their reunification. Her only lead is an elderly pony who might just have the answers she seeks.

This is the story of The Great Tabloid Disaster.

Sunny loved the sky. Every moment it seemed to grace her senses, a swathe of cloud, prickles of starlight, the unwavering moon. Oh, what she would give to have a chance to fly! Perhaps she could reach paradise. For many, it was only a fantasy.

So she waited on that same spot on her balcony, hoping, seeking that something would come at last.

Then a star plunged from heaven to greet her. And he took her with him to dance amongst saccharine stars.

How did the festival in Starlight's village get its name? Perhaps a certain pony wandered into town one day, a pony who knows firsthoof about making a huge mistake, and what's needed for everypony to get over it...

Princess Luna is having trouble falling asleep, and she soon discovers why—she is in the company of an old accomplice. But what this being's intentions are and what they seem to be are two very different things...

Sunset Shimmer wants to become an alicorn more than anything - it's the entire reason why she's Princess Celestia's student. But she's run out of ways to research it and Princess Celestia has blocked her at every turn.

Fortunately for her, there's a new Princess on the block - Cadance. One who's already ascended. One who knows personally and intimately how she did it.

To get her to talk, Sunset will do anything. Even if it means pretending to like - really like - the Pink Pony Of Passion.
