Vanilla oat swirl ice cream is a girl's best friend when she's alone on Hearts and Hooves Day, and at half-off, it would be a shame not to buy any. But when Rarity runs into Applejack at the store, Applejack offers to keep her company.

This story is a sequel to I Am Trying to Break Your Heart.

There are two types of ponies in the world: dog ponies, and cat ponies.

Anyone with two eyes in their head could easily determine which categories both Applejack and Rarity fit in. But, when Rarity must take a last minute business trip to Manehattan, it falls on Applejack to take care of Rarity's beloved pet, Opalescence.

The problem is, Opalescence doesn't like Applejack.

Opalescence doesn't like anybody.

Rarity can see it clearly.

The way Applejack laughs around Coloratura, the way she smiles. The way Coloratura hangs on Applejack's every word, the way her eyes light up whenever they glance at each other.

Friends since fillyhood, Applejack and Coloratura share a relationship deeper and more special than most ponies will ever know.

But Rarity and Applejack were fillyhood friends too. Shouldn't that be just as special?

[SPOILERS FOR S5 FINALE]

When a friend is all you used to have, what do you have left after that? Both Rarity and Applejack contemplate what they've lost in the midst of darkness. Security, family ... and each other.

When Rarity and Applejack endure their final summer together, the last night is what counts the most. With a truck bed full of pillows and the whole night ahead of them, there’s a lot of things in between. There are words. There are numbers. There are kisses. But most importantly, there is love. A love that seems silly, and that of a cliche high school set-up… yet deep down, there might be something more.

Sundays are always special for her; but, through the thick and thin, this was most certainly Rarity's best Sunday ever.

Once upon a time there was a slumber party. Once upon a time, a pair of friends gave each other a dare: one to enter the local rodeo when it came to town, the other not to enter. Applejack turns out to be quite happy with fulfilling her part of that challenge, but what about Rarity?
