Twilight witnessed something as a filly. Something that changed her life, and eventually led to the strong friendships she has now forged. A sonic rainboom. But due to a mistake she made, Twilight can't remember it, nor does she know it ever existed. On the other hand, Rainbow Dash's life was thrown into turmoil soon after the sonic rainboom. And although she has mostly recovered now, the painful memories continue to lie just below the surface.

It's now the day of the Best Young Flyers competition. What's the worst that could possibly happen?

While DJ-ing a nightclub, Vinyl Scratch finds herself DJ-ing against some pony she never expected to be able to DJ...and she's good at it too. But who exactly is this mysterious mare? What is Vinyl suppose to do with this new found love for classical music? Vinyl's on the hunt to find out the answers and hopefully to DJ with her again.

With a whole day off, Rainbow Dash has nothing to do. The only pony that doesn't seem to be busy is Pinkie Pie, who doesn't seem to be herself. The two decide to bake cupcakes together, but something else rises as well...
