This story is a sequel to G5 Adventures in The Smurfs

After a thrilling adventure in New York City, all the ponies want is a nice vacation with their families before they head back on their Unity Quests. But as their vacation is just getting started, they are once again called on another mission where the mortal world and Equestria hangs in the balance.

This time, they join Mystery Incorporated and some new friends in Japan, where the ghost of the Black Samurai races against them to possess an ancient sword, the Sword of Doom, believed to possess incredible powers. But, it'll take not just the ponies and Mystery Inc, but them and their new friends to make sure evil does not threaten their worlds.

In the end, our heroes will learn that loyalty, honor and courage may be their only key to stopping evil and unlocking the answer to the mystery.

The day starts out like any other, until Sunny Starscout purchases a most peculiar book. She brings it back to her friends for a little book club, until the book itself transports them to the land of Middle-Earth. There, they become involved and a part of the Company of Thorin Oakenshield, and by extension alongside Bilbo Baggins. Along the way, they encounter a plentiful of beings and creatures such as Elves, Hobbits, Dwarves, wizards, and a Skin-Changer; but also the Orcs of Gundabad, the Goblins of the Misty Mountains, and the great Fire-Worm that stole Erebor all those decades ago.

Not only with the Mane 5 risk their own lives and their friendships, but also discover more about themselves.

Captain Rainbow Dash is in BIG trouble. 13 years ago she made a deal with the ghostly Dragon Ruler of The Ocean Depths Spike Jones to raise the Black Pearl from the depths. Now her time is up and so she must now serve on Jones' crew or be sent to Spike Jones' Locker, courtesy of the kraken. The only way out is for her to seize the fabled Dead Stalliion's Chest and use it as leverage against Spike. Meanwhile, relcutant swashbuckler Shining Armor and his fiancee Cadence Mi Amore face a death sentence for freeing Rainbow a year earlier unless Shining Armor can find Rainbow and convince her to return to Port Royal.
