Princess Celestia has seen occasional visions of the future in her sleep, but none so vivid as the ones regarding purple spotted dragon egg. She saw the egg hatch, and the dragon within live and grow among ponies. What's more, Celestia saw key events of the future play out in the most favorable ways possible, all because of that one dragon: the discovery of the Bearer of the Element of Magic, the second defeat of Discord, the second and third defeats of Sombra, and the rise of two rulers who would become invaluable allies of Equestria.

This work began as a fanfic fragment and a handful of notes some 5½ years ago, and the author is sharing it here in an effort to make himself finish the thing. (Any encouragement is welcome.)

Bloodhound isn't exactly the most imposing pony. She's scrawny, asthmatic, frail, and socially awkward. The only things she really has going for her are a semi-big brain and a nose like her namesake.

When the tragic death of a close family member happens directly in front of her, Bloodhound stumbles onto a shocking fact: It might have been murder.

But that kind of thing just doesn't happen in Equestria.

With only her personal trainer and an eccentric bureaucrat actually believing her theory, Bloodhound struggles to prove that a cunning killer is on the loose.

As the Ruler of Equestria, Twilight often finds herself occupied and can't spend every moment teaching foals at the School of Magic. So she needs a regular substitute teacher to sub for her MOST of the time. After her current substitute retires, she's in need of a new one. Her old friend Moondancer applies for the job.
