This story is a sequel to All Hail, Midnight Sparkle!

After a year of incarceration, Sombra was free and ready to take his revenge on Princess Celestia when, against his better judgement, spared her life and fled. He then aided her and Equestria's heroes in freeing Twilight Sparkle from the influence of Nightmare Moon, though he experienced his own trial during that time. Now once again on the run, Sombra is questioning his purpose in this brave new world. What is next for Sombra now that he finds his life is changing? Will he change as well?

If Twilight Sparkle had her way, she would never use the dark magic of King Sombra again.

Fate is not her friend. A new discovery in the Frozen Wastes outside the Crystal Empire has drawn her into a new adventure. When King Sombra returns to claim the throne of not just the Empire, but Equestria itself, Twilight is tested to her fullest.

Spike finds himself in the middle of a growth spurt. Rainbow Dash is missing. Pinkie Pie, Applejack, and Fluttershy are being pursued by timberwolves. All across Equestria, Sombra’s influence is felt.

The solution to Twilight’s problem may be found in Equestria’s history, if that doesn't just open up a tide of new issues. Can even the Elements of Harmony stop Sombra this time?

Twilight Sparkle, still adjusting to her new role as a Princess of Equestria, finds herself plagued by stress and self-doubt as she questions her worth to her friends and to her country. Unknown to everypony, Twilight included, she has become possessed by the same force that turned Princess Luna into Nightmare Moon. Soon, Twilight is transformed into Midnight Sparkle, self-proclaimed Queen of Magic and sets off to conquer Equestria for herself. Desperate, her friends reluctantly team up with Sombra in order to get their Twilight back and end the threat that started a thousand years ago once and for all.

Twilight has failed, or rather, she has succeeded. Her darkness is her power, and together with her husband, Queen Twilight has a new plan for all of Equis. The black castle rises to greater power than has ever been seen before. War is brewing while alliances are forged and others are broken. The days of harmony are dead and gone, and all the world will be forced to mobilize against the might of the Nightmare Hordes. Will they prevail in the faces of Wrath and Despair? King Sombra has returned, conquered the Crystal Empire and has Twilight at his mercy. Twilight Sparkle has always been the faithful and most capable student of Princess Celestia. There has never been a challenge too great for her, nor a single villain who could shake the foundations of her loyalty. When she is sent to the Crystal Empire to complete a test, she finds herself in a comprising position.

Waking up in a jail cell, she is now the prisoner of evil King Sombra. However, not everything is what it seems. Secrets of the past reveal to show that neither Sombra nor Celestia is what history makes them out to be. Is this new truth enough to shake Twilight's loyalty for the princess she always considered to be kind, tolerant, and compassionate?

After his violent defeat, the former tyrant King Sombra has managed to claw his way back from the land of the dead and has returned to Equestria to seek revenge on Princess Celestia and the Elements of Harmony. However, the Emperor of Darkness is no fool. He knows that he cannot simply seek retribution on the Main Six or the Princess of Day, so he waits, gathering intel on his foes, learning of their weaknesses. When the time is right, he will strike. Can our heroes overcome King Sombra's plot for vengeance?

King Sombra, the dark sorcerer and former ruler of the Crystal Empire, has been defeated by Twilight Sparkle and the other bearers of the Elements of Harmony, leaving him stripped of his magic and imprisoned deep below the surface of Canterlot Castle. There, he waits for his chance to take revenge against Princess Celestia and conquer Equestria, though his affection for both his long-lost daughter and the mare that he loves have him question everything that he knows. Can the shadow-pony learn forgiveness and mercy or will he let his deep-seated anger and desire for vengeance consume him?

Sombra may have been defeated after his attempt to retake the Crystal Empire, but he was not destroyed. He still lives, and now he seeks to work his way into the mind of Princess Twilight Sparkle. As she struggles with the implications of her new immortality, she finds less comfort in the wise words of Princess Celestia, and is drawn to the dark magic of a fallen king.
