So it's been about a year now [Important] [Rant] [Criticul] [Deceased] [Rant] · 1:55pm Dec 3rd, 2012
I started writing fanfic almost a whole year ago (on a different account... the history of this one is weird and features me as a tyrannical bastard) and I must say... Wow, I haven't accomplished a lot at all. I could blame it on a lot of schoolwork, but considering I don't do mine, that would be bullshit. I could say I can't find free time, but my 106 hours of Star Trek online just over the past 2 weeks would probably call me out. I could even point the finger at Criticul (because it's his damn fault, that's why) but that still doesn't seem to cut it.
No, I just got bored with this. I honestly do not know what to do at this point besides question why I gradually lost interest.
... Oh wait, I already know why.
Go look at CMC:ToD, more specifically the view counter. Now go look at RitD's view counter. Both are crap stories, but one is clearly crappier than the other. I think I lost interest because my expectations have not coincided with reality. I expected something I poured weeks and weeks of work into to receive far more attention than some story that began as nothing more than a make-out scene written in the middle of somebody else's document (and now we come full circle as to why it's Criticul's fault). But that's just it. Some deep, very stupid part of me actually wants people (idiots or not) to read what I have written while the intelligent part of me wants to, well, write something intelligent.
It all comes down to this.
I am going to write one more story. It is a story I have wanted to write since I started AHA almost a year ago. I am going to write the entire thing before I post, no more of this episodial chapter nonsense that makes it all too easy to quit midway through. It is going to be my Mona Lisa of pony fanfiction. (No, I am not going to say Pona Lisa; that's a terrible pun.) It is going to have important messages, epic adventure, death and tragedy, and maybe a bit of romance if I damn well feel like it (shut up, Deceased, I know).
This story will be a test. If it receives what i deem to be adequate attention, then I will be satisfied and continue writing. If not, I will cease wasting my efforts in an obviously hopeless cause.
I like writing ponies, I really do, but if the audience isn't on the same level as those for real stories, I don't want to be writing for it.
Welcome to FimFic... Where your best works of art will be carelessly pushed aside to make room for your raunchiest, silliest piece of crap.
The only way to avoid it is to never make a fic you wouldn't accept as your greatest identity. :3
It's always criticul's fault. :3
Think you mean 'Magnum Opus'
Don't downplay your writing, I've only read Rainbow in the Dark but that was a pretty heart warming/wrenching oneshot(unless you count the afterward as another chapter), and a good one at that. I'll read this new story when it comes, and I'm betting it will get a lot of views.
Hey Script. I love your stuff and will be sorry to see you leave. Rainbow in the Dark was actually the first fan fiction I ever read and it is what got me writing. I have loved reading all your stuff and I look forward to this next story and hope it is a huge success. Good luck Script.
Dude, if no one likes your story, then I... Am really going to rage! What I don't get is that most people don't understand good stories when they see one! They see an adequate story that is actually good but still needs fine tuning yet they just past by an excellent story, read the description of it and then said 'ew!'. You don't deserve that man! You deserve all of your views, likes and watches that you got and if no one can see that.... Then I.. am going to flip...
569001 The truth hurts...
569007 Yeah, isn't that oddly coincidental?
569013 Yes that would be a more literal term for it.
569259 Thanks for the compliment. I certainly hope you're right because I have a new philosophy of only putting the best into what I do or nothing at all.
569416 I looked at your story a bit (only managed to get through one paragraph as I said, my advil needs to kick in) and I must say I am very proud to be your first read in the fandom.
570167 Lol, calm down, fear. We can't all have good taste. If we did, cars like the Nissan Cube and the Chrysler PT Cruiser would never sell.
I think you've got good ideas, but they aren't polished. I couldn't get through rainbow in the dark just because a lot of the things you used to justify them getting together pulled me out of the experience, such as Cloudsdale's rules.
After reading Moonspire Run and Wild, Sweet, and Cool, the racing in your story was frustratingly bland and ended with Luna pulling "going faster than molecules" right out of her ass. All to set up a kiss in a forest. I stopped after that.
I'll grant you that you tackled an unusual ship in a way that fit both characters well, but you put so much of your headcanon down without explaining that I just can't read it!
582986 Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. I'll definitely do my best to avoid "plot engineering" in the future.
