Where'd you go? (End of an Era) · 8:50pm Feb 15th, 2021
Back in like 2017, I set a series of goals for myself, and said that once I accomplished them all, I'd leave the fandom. They were:
- Go to BronyCon
- Speak on a panel at BronyCon
- Get over 1000 followers on FiMFiction
- Get interviewed by the Royal Canterlot Library
- Something else that I can't remember??
I completed all of them like two years ago. And I'm still here... kinda.
If you hadn't noticed, I don't really write fanfiction anymore. The last four fics I've written have been specifically for events, and the very last one was just because I had a really stupid idea that I needed to inflict on someone. I also don't read fanfiction anymore, unless it's by Posh, who is my favorite writer and person.
It's nothing against any of you — there's still a lot of great work being done on this site and elsewhere. But I've been in the fandom for ten years now, and like all things, eventually I gotta walk away. I've actually been meaning to write this for a long time, as melodramatic as it is.
So where am I now? Well, as you saw above, I'm currently an Editor at Insider (aka Business Insider)! I've been working there since early 2019, building the Reference section, and I've been climbing up the ranks pretty steadily. When I started on this site, I never thought I'd get into journalism — now, I can't really see myself anywhere else.
Again, I've been here for ten years — I joined just a few days after my 15th birthday. This site basically taught me how to write. I've made some of my best friends here. The summer of 2011, staying up 'til 4AM each night reading fanfics and watching Season One episodes on Synchtube, is still one of the best times of my life.
And I'm still gonna be around! I still check my notifications at least once a week, and of course I'm on Discord. I'm still alive! Just... probably don't expect many more fics from me, if any. 
(That said, I've just a whole bunch of fics that are technically done, but not edited at all — I'm considering releasing them all in an anthology or something.)
And I want to do so much else! I want to travel! I want to do voice acting! I want to get into streaming! I'm in the middle of teaching myself how to draw!
More than anything, though, I've always wanted attention and internet fame. I sorta got it here — hello, 1000+ followers, or however many of you are still alive — but not nearly to the point that I craved. I'm still chasing that, despite my better judgement.
So, all this melodrama is to say... You should come follow me on Twitter! That's where I spend most of my time nowadays. I swear I'm cool.

Grats on adulting. It's a fun trip, just remember to max out your company 401k contributions (if possible, and if you don't have one, set up a private account), avoid credit card debt like it's Brussel sprouts, and enjoy the ride. Oh, and pay attention to the Great One as you go through life.

I’m glad that adulting seems to agree with you! It’s been bittersweet seeing a few folks post similar things about moving on lately, but 2020 rattled everyone’s situation, and change is an inevitable outcome. I hope your career holds much success, and a bunch of us will be here to greet you anytime you want to stop in.
