Take a minute to be kind to someone today, even if that someone is you. We all need a little more kindness, giving and receiving.

“I think I can say it's early now, Amber.” Twilight said as she approached the painter. After what Applejack had told her, she needed to make sure things didn't get out of control.

The basket behind Amber remained untouched, and her concentration undivided as her face was inches from the canvas while she carefully pained individual apples on the smaller trees in the background. Twilight knew Amber would obsess over detail on occasion, and she never ceased to be amazed by it.

The words rang clearly in Amber's mind as she gasped and brought out her omnitool, desperate to know the time and dropping her brush beside the others she'd been using. She sighed as the device blinked off and she picked her paintbrush back up. “No, I've got three hours before I have to get to school.”

“Why are you so stressed about this? You could turn it in now and do amazing.” Twilight said encouragingly. Truthfully she was impressed by the painting and had no idea how such a young girl could have developed this talent.

“I can't turn in an incomplete assignment.” Amber absently said as she continued to focus on her work. “You would never turn in an incomplete assignment.”

Amber's statement alone was telling. “You don't have to push yourself so hard. I did, and I missed out on so many things because I was focused on my work.”

Amber finally put her brush down and looked at the painting. It was incomplete, it wasn't good enough. “But this is what I can do.” She quietly said. “Mom, Aunt Tali, and Sara are so smart. I just can't keep up. This is the only thing I can do that stands out. This is what makes me special.”

Twilight could barely believe what she was hearing. “Your paintings don't make you special,” She said as she walked up to Amber and hugged her from behind. “your paintings are special because of you. Everyone is different and you have a talent, just like your family each have their own talents.”

Amber wiped her face as she listened to Twilight. “But … I'm not smart like they are.”

“Who said that?”

“Nobody needs to. I used to be able to keep up with Sara at school, now I don't understand anything she's doing. Even when she tries to explain it to me.”

“That doesn't mean you're not smart. There are a lot of things you have to understand to paint the way that you do.”

Amber shook her head dismissively. “I just look out there and paint what I see.”

“But usually you don't. Do you remember that painting you gave me? Of everypony standing in front of Sugar Cube Corner? We never posed for it, nopony ever saw you painting it. You did that from your knowledge of the area and us, and got even the little details right.”

“It wasn't that hard. I've been there enough and see all of you all the time.”

“It wasn't that hard for you, because you have a skill for it. Come on, there's some ponies I think you should meet.”

“What about my homework.”

Twilight braced herself for what she was about to say. “It's okay if you don't have it done right on time.”

The words alone nearly made Twilight wince, but she resisted. “I think it's more important that you learn that you're smarter than you think.”
