Dismissal of Starlight's Virtue. · 7:29am Dec 27th, 2017
Part of cultivating virtue is acknowleding vice. I've praised Glimmer, let's now de-levitate her a bit.
As fans of the adult character Ms. Starlight Glimmer, we often see the heroine's image tarnished with such denigrating labels as "Mary Sue." What does that say about the appreciation of delicately-crafted, adult characters in our culture? When one who shows up in a "girls' show" is instantly shot down from Cloudsdale itself as a Mary Sue? That is no way to encourage little girls to develop female empowerment, guys.
You know, if MLP is really a kids' show meant to inspire girls (and boys) then TREAT IT as such. Let them be inspired by her character. Her determination. Her heroic willingness to change through time, as I have gone back and edited this post a few times to correct its flaws. Starlight's balanced selfishness... with concern for others mixed in. A balance of vice and virtue praising and condemnation through the river of life.
Just look at Starlight's awesome flight spell that *she invented*. Because she's inventive, at the end of the day. She's selfish, but determined, at the EOD.
Link to my blog about this where I say so much more.
And that's how she beat Shaq Starswirl.
I intend to write other character analyses. I will not focus overly on Starlight in the future. I have said all I have to say on the topic until my story is posted. Have a pleasant night (or afternoon for my few remaining Aussie followers who I haven't scared off yet with my shit... your lovely country is great in many ways)

Oy! Nope!
I love Aussie culture tho. Like them, America needs some ONE, FOUR, FIVE!

Music can be meds. A doctor prescribing music in an Aussie way might seem ridiculous. What a retarded healthcare system.. but music Therapy WORKS! I've used it in my own self-reconciliation process and it's been TREMENDOUS!
So to sum up, she is a mary sue, but saying so is bad.

Mmmm....... Yes and No?
Mary Sue: Overpowered, likes to bend things her way, generally kind of an asshole while trying not to come off as an asshole.
Not Mary Sue: She is very (dare I say it) courageous in the face of danger (even if sometimes she doesn't mean to be).
She tries her damn hardest to come up with an easy solution for things, but most of the time gets shot down because ponies still don't trust her magic. She (now anyways) is very selfless, putting herself in the line of fire in the off chance of an emergency. She's like Unicorn!Twilight, but with more social skill and megalomaniac personality.
All in all, I give Glim-Glam a solid 7/10 on the Scale of Reasonably Overpowered Ponies

Fare enough.
