Where Are All the Sorcerers in MLP?

Some of you might be tempted to answer this question, “There’s tons of sorcerers in MLP! Look at Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer, for instance. They are (were) evil and they use powerful magic.”

    The Bowsette Controversy

Not since Donald Trump has a singular figure polarized so many people against each other. Thank god she (he?) isn't real, or else the poor thing would receive death threats. I'm of course speaking of Bowsette, the Bowser-Peach hybrid which somehow exists. She's come to kidnap herself.

“I’m having a terrible day. Somebody broke into my house last night and they drank all the vodka! They replaced every app on my phone with Tetris, and every song in my library with Tchaikovsky! Worst of all, they exposed my carelessness because I didn’t lock my door. What do I do? Who can I blame this on?TM

My New Story: The Glimmer Dilemma · 12:38am Sep 17th, 2018

Recently, I published a new story: The Glimmer Dilemma. It’s been in development hell for over a year now, but I finally got the story where I wanted it!

This is a sci-fi adventure story in which Starlight Glimmer faces difficult choices as Equestria is on the edge of armed conflict. She just wants to preserve peace, and she attempts to remain politically neutral. This is harder to maintain, since everyone becomes more polarized, walling themselves off into ideological and philosophical factions and adopting a "you're with us or against us" mentality. Technology is rapidly advancing in both a physical and psychic arms race, increasing the destructive power of warfare. Starlight’s friends insist that she take a stand with them… not just to attain her loyalty, but also her immense magical power.

My prior stories The Trouble With Unicorns and Brother Against Sister tended to focus on themes of identity politics, personal freedom vs. the interests of the state, battlefield tactics, economics, and the development of leaders and what forms their convictions.

The Glimmer Dilemma will certainly contain some of the themes above, mostly because it’s hard not to include them. Overall though, there will be more of a focus on themes I haven’t covered extensively in other stories. Philosophy, technology, political neutrality and independents, the nature of sentient life, and what is common to every person/pony/etc.? Additionally, Starlight will be my first major protagonist who is not interested in gaining political power, due to her unfortunate past with it. Unlike Sombra, Prince Blueblood, Pound, Pumpkin, etc.

I hope you all will give it a read, and that you’ll enjoy it!

How unfortunate that Starlight will not seek power. She did a bang-up job with it last time, certainly better than anyone else we've seen with it.
