The Best of All Possible Worlds: Letter #5 from the Author · 7:02am Nov 12th, 2012

OOC:

For once, I put what I had to say about this chapter (22) in the comments instead of here.

IC:

Since I'm apparently not going to be hearing from the crazy author any time soon, let me post more of her notes on the story that she gave me when she left from the San Diego trip:

Chapter 10

* That letter from the alicorns (which I totally made up, by the way). Sweet Celestia, that letter! Do you remember that part from Bill Cosby Himself when his wife has a conniption fit over the chocolate cake? Well from the torrent of abuse the author sent me, I think she was experiencing one while she was writing it! I mean, I do remember something about a freak hurricane that only managed to destroy a single hotel room, but I figured that was her pegasus friend!

Anyway, that was the only thing she sent me for several days, and then I finally got her notes on the rest of the chapter, in a completely different tone:

* The insight as to why Celestia didn't like the ponies to watch her at sunrise/sunset during the years of Luna's banishment: the author told me she had never thought of it in that way, and guessed that I might be correct.

* The bit about the Fae Folk: as you might suspect, she requested I send some reading material her way. Reading material that she has not yet returned, I will note, and at this rate I may never see again. I got that from a library, you know! (Twilight Sparkle's most-likely rejoinder: loaning your library books to somepony else is the fastest way to lose your borrowing privileges...FOREVER!)

* Celestia's explanation of why magic was necessary to control the Sun: the author was of course aware of the full reason for this, and had originally put those words in Princess Celestia's mouth. I was able to convince her that it was highly unlikely that she would have spoken of Discord under those circumstances, and she admitted that she was in fact guilty of putting words in her monarch's mouth. Don't think for a moment that I will let her forget this.

* Émilie du Châtelet (and the implication that Twilight Sparkle, accidentally or on purpose, is her pony equivalent): There were only the slightest mentions of this great worthy in the original text, with a note to me to research who she was. The rest was all me. I suppose for once I should be kind to the author, and not inform you of her reaction to my additions. I of course sent her a copy of Judith Zinsser's biography of the great woman. This also means that she'll find out that she and Voltaire weren't married. Sigh.

* Morningstar Sparkle and gallows humor: As usual with the Sparkle material, that was all the work of the author.

As you see, the notes for this one chapter were quite extensive. I will try to cover more than one chapter the next time I remember to get back to this topic.

Wait... when did you decide to reveal the name of the annonymous author as Twilight Sparkle? I thought she didn't want you to reveal it, even if it was BLAZINGLY obvious and there ws very little chance Voltaire had any descendant willing to sue?

Translator McPoodle: Um...I'm not sure what you're implying. If I make a librarian joke, and we all know that the author is a diplomat, then of course it will be a Twilight Sparkle joke, not an AA joke, yes?
