So... · 4:08am Sep 12th, 2012

Hey, remember back in June, when I promised I'd start writing more? I said "I'm on vacation now, and I have a lot of plans for the summer. Currently, I'm working on a one-shot called "A Gray Day." I'd say it's about 65% done as of this writing."

...Yeah. That didn't work out as planned. At all. Sorry. I feel like I should explain myself.

As it happened, I didn't publish anything over this summer. Well, at least not on FIMFiction. My DeviantArt account has some random pony shit not good enough to make it here, and quite a few non-pony things I did over the summer. In July, I co-taught a month-long writing class, so some stuff came out of that, including a short story and a song. I also wrote, directed, and acted in a movie, which you can find here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj1saeEi4ns (I'm the counselor with the hipster glasses and afro)

I spent July trying (and failing) to write a multi-part Vinyl and Octavia fic, which still remains untitled. About half-way through outlining the plot, I got stuck, and kinda gave up. I really do want to write that some day, and I know that I really need to hunker down and make some edits so it works. I feel now that I had been trying to force things on the plot, which tends not to work well.

I then spent the rest of the summer working on lots of different things, none of which really got off the ground.

"A Gray Day" - I got to the penultimate scene, then took a break to focus on Eclipse (a project that I still regret). I was never able to get myself back into it afterwards.
"Games" - No idea what this was, really. All I know is that I have a blank document on my Drive labeled "Games," and I vaguely remember making it.
"Celestia's Happy Place" - I had the entire plot outlined, and it would have been great, but I just couldn't write it well. All my prose was dry and uninteresting. I might try again someday.
"Young Love" - SweetiexSpike ship fic.
"Like Father, Like Son" - Sad fic involving Shining Armor and his father getting into a big argument the night before his wedding.
"Some Books" - Filly!Twilight's mother gets a pony version of "Fifty Shades of Gray" as a present from one of her friends, Twilight wants to read it, hilarity ensues. I actually wrote this, but I didn't feel it was good enough for FIMFiction.
"Cat and Mouse" - Sad Derpy fic. Wrote it, hated it. Never want to look at it again.
"Untitled" - Was supposed to be a stream of consciousness type thing about Twilight walking through Ponyville in the middle of the night. May have involved TwiLuna shipping.
"A Talk" - VERY short fic, the shortest I've ever done. Probably never posting it anywhere, after someone told me that apparently the entire premise (Filly!Twilight gets into a fight with Shining Armor) actually went against established canon.
"This Won't Hurt a Bit" - Pinkie gets hundreds of cavities, is forced to give up sugar. Couldn't think of good jokes; it was boring as hell past the second scene.
"Prude" - If you didn't know, over the summer, I read "Romance Reports" by Sleepless Brony. I hated it. It's my least favorite fic of all time. This fic I wrote as a response to it. Probably never getting posted, because it would get thumbed down to hell. Involved Applejack being the only one of her friends that wasn't in a friends-with-benefits relationship.

Yeah. My problem is that I never finish what I start. I am a horrible writer, I know. You are all fully within your God-given rights to hate me. I probably deserve it.

I'd like to say now "I'm going to start writing more, and everything will be awesome again!" but I know that that's not true. I'm entering Junior year of High School, meaning that I have to get my shit together, or I'm going to be screwed. At this point, pony fics are taking a backseat to the rest of my life. Sorry. This doesn't mean I won't be around; I'll still log in every day, check my notifications, read a bit. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for reading and supporting me, guys. I'll try to make you proud. :)

On a very unrelated note, a kind soul named FiMvisible (http://fimvisible.deviantart.com) contacted me because he wanted to translate "...But the Kitchen Sink" into Italian! Huh, who knew I had fans in Italy? You can find that here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VwSeiEwXoxpY9nxCIH86rcGOCMn6CdWZK6fMKjLUzv4/edit

That reminds me of how I completely forgot about Applejack while writing Vindication and had to justify it at the last minute.

They all had a bit of a titter before Fluttershy—her Scootaloo costume just off of her, leaving a rather exhausted, sweaty pony—piped up.
“It's just too bad that Applejack's straight.”

That being said, I'd certainly read that fic. There's no use being afraid of thumb downs.

Just unwatches. :moustache:

Dude! You are NOT a horrible writer! You may be experiencing some sort of "crisis", but no need to worry. Sure, when one publishes a story, he obviously wants everyone to like it, and I really respect your decision, to avoid uploading stories you didn't think were perfect in the first place. There is a saying, if I remember well: when you're writing a story, you have to believe it's the greatest piece of art ever written, and at the same time the worst one. Which means, don't be too critical (people will tend to judge a story by the feel it gives, rather than how well it's written), but at the same time don't let your stories be cheap. You always want to strive to give the best to your readers.

So, don't worry if you can't write anything at the moment. It might take a while, but eventually you'll be finding yourself willing to give it another shot; maybe you will even get an unexpected inspiration to write your best story yet, be it comical, sad, epic or fucking random!

I for one would like to write something one day, but I don't seem to be able to. I'll keep trying, though. :D

Brohoof! And good luck with school and stuff. :) /)
