Pegasi according to HapHazred · 9:11pm Aug 29th, 2015

Well, I've just published the first half of my latest story, which is predictably AppleDash. Given that nearly half of what I've written is AppleDash, this probably comes as a surprise to nobody. The story can be found here:

What might come as a surprise is some of the nonsense I put in there. In the story, we are given a more in-depth look at some of the stranger headcannons I developed over time about pegasi. So, to celebrate the new story, I've decided to put in a few of the other stranger aspects of pegasus life that, unfortunately, didn't make it into the story.

Bear in mind that most of the following was made up for fun. That said, wouldn't it be interesting if some of it was true?

Pegasi and the water:

Pegasi, like many birds, often go on long flying trips along with their cloud cities. Sometimes these flights might last for weeks, or even months. Given their weight, pegasi were unable to sustain their flight for such extended periods of time, and over the course of their evolution, learned to float on water in a manner very similar to the common duck, which proved useful when traversing large bodies of water. It also makes them look very silly, which is why pegasi tend to avoid the swimming pool.

Pegasus Spacial Orientation

Unlike all ground-faring species, pegasi evolved primarily in the sky, and developed a rather different way of viewing how the world came together. From their point of view, the 'sky' is the area of empty space between their cloud cities and the ground, and it is this area that pegasi have the easiest time navigating. Typically, this results in pegasi referring to 'up' as being 'towards the sky'... which becomes very confusing to non-winged species (also known as 'smoothbacks') when visiting Cloudsdale, since their version of down is 'towards the ground'.

This is a source of some inconvenience to visitors, especially when asking for directions.

Pegasus fur:

Upon travelling to higher altitudes, the air temperature decreases. Pegasi evolved much thicker fur as a result of this. This can make it very uncomfortable when visiting warmer climates, and in order to cool themselves off, they will take to frequent resting in the shade or napping.

They're also reputed to be the fluffiest and cuddliest of ponies, which is a source of great embarrassment for them.

Mimicking abilities:

Many pegasi take after parrots in a surprising manner. In the same way that parrots will often imitate the voice and speech of a person, pegasi have a surprising, but little-observed, skill at imitation and mimicking.

And that's just a few of the things I wish pegasi would do! Like I said, there's more in the story I just published, but since I don't want to spoil anything on that front, my lips (and keyboard) are sealed regarding how many differences and quirks pegasi have according to my beer-addled brain.

Have a good one!

A headcanon of mine is that pegasi have lighter, more brittle bones (again, referencing birds), which is why they are far more prone to injury. They seem to heal pretty quick, if RD and Soarin are any indication (both seemed to bounce back from injuries pretty quickly).

Also, glad you put up this blog post; for some reason, I didn't get a notification that you'd put up a new story. Hm.

3356236 Strange. Ah well. Good to know bps are good for something.

I heard that headcannon too. I like it.

Howzabout pegasi have spongier bodies, with a greater cartilage mass index?

3356442 I dunno. Howzabowtit?:ajsmug:

3356236
That's how I've thought about it.

3356442 Anything that makes pegasi more cuddly is A-okay in my books.

Death metal spikes are out of the question? :fluttershysad:

3357292 Death metal spikes are fine.

So long as they're soft and hug-able.

Great now you've got me visualizing cute fuzzy cuddly ponies LARP-ing with foam swords and warpaint! :rainbowlaugh:

3357296 It is a glorious mental image indeed.
