One-Year Anniversay of "A Nightmare Before The Night" · 9:47pm Oct 31st, 2014
Today is Halloween 2014! I'm sure a lot of you have been waiting for this day. Going around town and getting free candy for innocent little rhymes?
Hahahaha-hah.
No.
So God help me, if there is any day I dislike more of the year than any other one it's gotta be the 31st of October. This whole Halloween nonsense has been fucking annoying ever since it was converted into a massive money-grabbing fest and badly dressed children saying bad rhymes to get overpriced candy. I don't mind the whole spooky stuff (and I like Halloween events for websites and video games and the likes), but otherwise it's just annoying.
However, there is one very particular reason why I dislike it. It reminds me of the biggest disappointment I ever had on this site (and slightly beyond).
My longest story to this date (the only one with a five-digit word count), A Nightmare Before The Night, was released on this day a year ago. At the time of posting it I was naive enough to assume it would take off and become a highlight and an eternal standard for CYOAs to follow. What happened instead? 365 days have passed and the number of likes never even reached 100. In fact, it stuck at exactly 99 for almost three months now. The counter went up and up by the speed of a crippled snake, and what felt like just wanting to mock me it stopped there, never reaching the third digit.
I also submitted it to EqD twice, but it got rejected both times. I went ahead and got a very experienced editor to completely re-edit the fic, but after one third we both realized it was not worth the effort. The fear of getting shot down a third time after two rewrites was just unbearable.
What I'm basically getting at, if case you feel bored and want to give me a little something to smile, it'd be cool if you could take a peek at this thing. If only for that damned 100th like.
