Story Spotlight: All In - An Applejack Noir · 8:56pm Oct 26th, 2014
I have always believed, as a writer, that fellow writers of good quality are to be celebrated. In writing and authorship, a rising tide lifts all boats, and works of quality deserve to have attention called to them.
In that spirit, I'd like to steer everyone following me toward a new story I've just recently discovered:
The setting is Manehattan in an alternate reality from the show, one where Applejack never left the city after going there in "Cutie Mark Chronicles," and where, somewhat later, Nightmare Moon triumphed over Celestia. This city, swathed in endless night, has coal black shadows, hardened ponies, and a vicious element that lurks an inch below the surface. Amid the noir intrigue, Applejack plies her trade as a private investigator, showing off much of the same character that she displays in the show: hard, but with an element of sweetness. A stallion comes to her one day, asking her to help him find his fiance. The case quickly plunges Applejack into a web of danger, putting her very life at risk.
The story is well-written, and maintains the moody darkness of so much old-fashioned film noir. AJ's character makes her well-suited to a Sam Spade/Philip Marlowe role; thus far, her movements through the seedy underbelly of Manehattan are a grim delight. Best of all, we're only three chapters into what should prove to be a long, uncertain journey. It's always fun to jump aboard a fic as it's starting out, and this is a prime opportunity to do so.
It only has 450 views so far, which is far too little, in my opinion. Check it out.

Sock-san needs more lurve.
Well, sir, thank you for taking notice of my little fic. And thank you very much for taking the time to call attention to it. I daresay you've done a better job describing the story, its setting, and its characters than I have.
I wish I could repay you in some fashion other than by adding another follower to your already prodigious count. I guess the story itself is going to have to suffice. I'll try not to disappoint.
