The Last Roundup #3 - Think Outside the Box · 9:08pm Sep 28th, 2014
Hi guys. More Happy Funtime Sunday time! I've been kind of sick and out of it this weekend, so I'm a little too bleh to write you an amusing opening to this here post. That said, the stories are still here. And stories are what we all cherish. You will pass stories someday down to your grandchildren, and your grandchildren will tell you "Grandpa, you sure had weird pastimes."
Ah well.

And now for our feature presentation (stories listed in no particular order):
The Enchanted Library by Monochromatic
Rarity liked the tale of The Four Princesses as a filly, even if she knew it wasn't real. Princesses fighting against a spirit of chaos? A library under a tree? Please. But then she grew up and found out some bedtimes stories were quite real.
Morcraw ses: I really liked this one. It's not amazing, sure, but it's fun and sweet and interesting, and it doesn't really do anything wrong either. I enjoyed it.
Applejack Goes To Magic School For Some Reason by JasonTheHuman
Applejack gets accepted to Princess Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns. She doesn't learn anything.
Morcraw ses: I've not read a funnier story in a long time. Also placed sixth in the recent Write-Off, so that's pretty cool.
Up From the Wilderness by Cynewulf
Adventure has left Rarity scarred and immobile, but not broken.
Morcraw ses: Very pleasant to read. Good stuff.
Passing the Time by Rinnaul
Extreme long-range teleportation is fraught with frequently-unexpected complications. Twilight and Celestia find themselves caught within one such complication for an entire week.
Morcraw ses: Not particularly innovative or exciting, but it's a nice piece of character development that is very faithful to the show. Very clear and solid writing is icing on the cake.
Of Mirrors and Madness by Violetta Strings
Princess Celestia gazes into Sombra's doorway. What she finds is simply the truth.
Morcraw ses: A nice little look at Celestia's regrets, among other things. It's not a bank-breaker, and some might suggest that this sort of thing's been done before, it's an interesting read and worth a look.
WILDCARDS
A Rubber Mask Of Emotions by zaponator
Pinkie Pie's 'cousin Horsey' comes to visit, but Twilight Sparkle is suspicious. Sometimes we wear masks to hide our true feelings... sometimes that can be taken literally.
Morcraw's Wildcomments: A really weird story with really excellent characterization.
Not The Hero by alarajrogers
In all his existence, Discord has never faced an enemy as dangerous as this.
Morcraw's Wildcomments: It's a technically solid subversion of Mary Sue Seventh Element HiE that goes wild with the inherent stupidity of the premise. A very fun read.
And that's it for this week, folks. Be sure to check back on the group next Sunday for next week's post if you think this is a cool deal. Or just check the feed, if you're following me. I'll be doing weekly crossposts on these every Sunday.
Have a nice day!
How is this the last roundup if there's going to be more.

Of course, William Defoe would say that.

I am not a famous spy from the 1600s.

Dohohohohohoho
I've already been following Not the Hero for a little while now. It's certainly been an experience.
Man, you're not kidding about Cousin Horsey. It's very good, yes, and the characterization is very good, but man it's weird. The Mane Six's reactions to the rubber horse mask are priceless, too.

Shut up. *goes back to playing Final Fantasy XIV*
Thanks for the recommendation for Not The Hero. It is, surprisingly, more than just a subversion and just all around excellently written.
