"Where do you get your ideas?" · 12:40pm Jun 22nd, 2014
I buy them from a mail order company based in Des Moines, Iowa...
Okay, that's an old joke. I believe David Letterman once used it on his show, which means that Johnny Carson probably told it first. But I'm not here to discuss American TV talk shows.
I've always been blessed with a vivid imagination. I breezed through school relying on a near photographic memory (at least up to the point where I just didn't care anymore) and that left me with lots of time to daydream. As a kid, I was rarely bored. I could stare off into space and just become lost to the world inside my head.
I just never did anything with those ideas. Oh, I had dreamed of becoming a writer. I loved science fiction, and discovered a few local SF magazines. I just never got around to it.
A few years back, I tried to do NaNoWriMo. I'd go, hang out with a bunch of friends, and write. But I never finished. I did write for the whole month, but my word count didn't even crack the half way point.
Then MLP:FIM came along. Nothing else has offered me quite as much inspiration. And I have managed to crank out a few stories. I've also got ideas for lots more...
But not enough time to write...
Which brings me to the point of this blog. What do I do with these ideas? For the moment, I'm taking them to The Idea Exchange. A place where I can offer up my excess inspiration for others to use. If you're a writer looking for something to write, head on over and trawl through the forum. You might spot something worth your time. Or, if you have ideas going to waste, post them up for others to try their hand at.
Many thanks to Estee for creating the group.
One of my ideas has been picked up already. Check out Sweetie Belle: Blackjack Dealer. Yay! And good luck to RaylanKrios as he makes the story his own.
FIMFiction groups, because starting my own mail order company for ideas is just too much trouble...
