    I'm alive

I'm alive! I live! I exist in a physical sense of the word! Rejoice!

Who the hell are you and why am I getting this in my feed?

I ... what? I write stories, one about a blue colt guy stuck in Equestria ... ?

Blue colt - wait, that's not cancelled?

What, NO! No, I was having trouble and-

I thought I removed that from my bookshelf.

    Inspiration and 'Ownership'

I've had a few PM's from authors asking to use the 'adult in foal' idea for their own stories. I find this to be very strange - I do not 'own' this idea. Hell, I'm writing My Little Pony fanfiction, can I really say I own anything beyond Bruce? Though Bruce is a lot less like myself now than he was (exaggerated as he may be), that character is the only thing I can even remotely claim as my

Oh to be DONE WITH THIS STUPID THING ARGHL · 6:31am May 29th, 2014

It's 2:30 in the morning. I'm tired but can't sleep. I have work in less than seven hours.

I've written nearly two thousand words and none of it is working no matter how hard I try. At all. I need to start from scratch almost scratch because I am NOT leaving out that scene probably scratch. I've opened that chapter twice daily for this week save today and stared at it trying to will the words to fit. I've written two hundred words this week and immediately deleted every single one. Every. Single. One.

The 18th was my birthday. I celebrated by smoking myself to death and not trying to write. I think I'm doing this 'hobby' thing wrong.

#firstworldproblems

To be honest, I think it's that one scene I don't want to get rid of - it sounds soooo good and it really hints at some important things but I think I'll have to get rid of it. Damn. Well, I'll start fresh when I have a moment tomorrow (probably when I come home from work) and see where a new perspective gets me. Sorry about the wait all, Rarinegans are coming. If only I could get this 'writing' thing I've heard about so much working right ...

Think happy thoughts... :derpyderp2:

Put the pen down, leap onto bed and do your best to relax, even if you don't sleep. Then, tomorrow, see if you can at the very least adapt the scene without cutting out the parts you're so excited by.

's all I have to say.

Get some rest.

You need to drink some impressively overpowered booze and take part in a failed revolt against an oppressive foreign regime. It worked for Hemingway.

Stop.

Go to sleep. If you can't, browse the net or play some video games. Do something else; anything else. You'll be surprised just how well the story works when you come back to it.

I know from experience. This exact thing happens to me all the time.

Sounds like a bad case of writers block or the ol' muse is on strike. Let me know if ya need any help, though this sounds pretty much all on your end. Maybe play Minecraft on creative mode for awhile? Just unwind to the gentle sounds of chickens/cows/pigs frolicking without a care? Either way, stay strong dude!

What if there's nothing wrong with any of that shit you just wrote, and now you'll never know because you deleted all of it?

Am I helping? :pinkiecrazy:

My sentiments exactly! Doing this 'hobby' thing correctly just doesn't seem to be in the cards right now, but here's what NOT to do:

• WHATEVER THE FLUP I DID!

Eh... to be more precise:
• Putting down the metaphorical pen for a break - GOOD IDEA
• Tucking said pen away in hopes of inspiration striking you eventually - DUMB IDEA

I am stuck in a similar predicament as you. I spent a good week straight planning and working on my next chapter and I have nothing to show for it! Well, not literally nothing; a decent 3k words, about half of the desired scene, but it is WAY off track from the current happenings and blocks me from moving forward so much that I almost want to start from scratch. BUT at the same time, it's so important to the overall story that I simply cannot omit it.

So here I am, 3-4 months later and, what? Not much more than a lazy bonus chapter to show for any progress.

Take the other commenters' advice. Sleep on it. Still can't decide on what to do? Just lie down and reflect on what you've got combined with where you want it to be. I know I can't talk much, as I haven't put anything substantial out recently, but I know from previous experience that it works. Heck, who knows? Maybe my own attempt at a pep talk will inspire me to pick my work back up.
Lawd knows Ah need to!

Oh! And happy belated birthday! Now here's a random pic of Scoots doing exactly what I do in my free time:

Apparently, if you take a video of yourself someday, you'll have inspiration for the story.

Here's a cake: mopies.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/portal-cake.jpg

Apart from the very good advice to just put it all aside for a while & go do something else, something I occasionally find helps to get over creative blocks is to consider what makes most sense in the context of your story to happen next rather than what you want to happen next.

This may just mean that the scene you're talking about happens later and/or differently than you're currently planning, but it might turn out all the better for it.

Anyways, just a suggestion. Take a break & come back refreshed. Your story is awesome so far & I'm willing to wait for however long you need to get back into the swing of it.

Then Bruce was a cupcake.
The End.

Yes that thing called writing.... God we all need some of that

And also cake

2155263 Speaking of your stories, I presume Survive is still in a dry well?

So. How fast can you fall asleep?
..

I'll go get the hammer.

I hate that feeling - when you know that you've got something you want to write (or draw, or sing, or whatever), and your brain just doesn't cooperate. I get stuck there semi-frequently. I know that when I sit and beat my head on the keyboard (figuratively) trying to write that it just frustrates me. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and forget about it for a few days.

*lifts a mug* Here's to your creative block lifting soon!

You could always try 'write drunk, edit sober'. Write as much as you can, like possibilities and such (think of it as a rough sketch) and the next day go through it and see if you can make any of it work. Add extra details (so it's readable) to what you think could work and see if it does.
I dunno if this could work though it's just based off of something another author says he does. Works for him though his story's damn good.

Funnily enough, I think that's how this whole story started ...

damn, I was going to barrage you with words of encouragement, but it seems that you've already went through a saturation bombing. anyways, good story and good luck :rainbowlaugh:

2155644
I don't really know.

I do want to continue it soon, but I also have a lot of things to do right now.

my birthday was the 18th too, how odd...

Happy B-Day! :pinkiehappy:

If you can't make it work, could you make it a "deleted scene"?:unsuresweetie:

Writers block, it happens to the best of us. Don't force it, it will all click together in time.

I'm right there too. I've got these little scenes that need to go in, but I can't make them work at all.

This philosophy should help.

:pinkiesad2: You could ask Bruce what he wants to do next. :pinkiecrazy:
Yep, that's it--my mind has officially gone spitzensparken. Consider it a gesture of solidarity with your own ARGHL symptoms. :derpytongue2:

2251991
"Hey Bruce, what do you want to do next?"
"Get the fuck home you worthless pile of donkey sh-"
"HAHA! So precocious ... it's bath time with Rarity."
"You sonnova bitch!"

2252310 Well, OK... Continuing the ongoing theme of "torment Bruce" works too, I guess.

Personally, I'd like to see somebody (anybody) in Ponyville or the surrounding area finally realize that, in a world filled with magic that can turn frogs into hopping oranges and rocks into top hats, Bruce might NOT be what he appears to be.
That's just the opinion of one reader, though. I've been wrong before, and I'll probably be wrong again a few times in my life. Do with it what you will.

2252637
Thing is they'd probably believe him pretty readily if not for the fact that someone wrote a ton of human-based stories that had a huge influx of obsessive fans.

As to 'torment Bruce,' it's actually going to get better and we're getting pretty close to the end and big reveals (some of which will be big for some characters but not for the audience). Maybe it's 'end of story jitters' that's making it so hard to write ... anyway. Yeah.

2252937 I eagerly await more chapters!:pinkiecrazy:*eye twitch* :pinkiecrazy:

Dear Minlkra

I am happy to hear that you are still working on this story to tell the truth. I have kind of left this site and others. I only really look here for your updates. I'm not saying that you are the only reason I'm still here, like you really care about that. Just wanted to say thank you for staying commitmented to this funny ass story.

Waiting.. ever.. patiently~<3 :pinkiecrazy:

Could always throw it into one of the interludes you've thrown up if it helps.
