Ah, the old "I've spent so much effort and hardly anything, but when I do something for shits and giggles, it's suddenly a hit!" conundrum.
Yup, that's how it goes. IIRC The Beatles started their career only because they did music for giggles and to relax. Like, they tried hard at the rehearsal and the listeners were like "meh, not good enough", so the musicians were like "crap, we're out... well, let's at least have some stupid fun!" The rest is history.
