The State of Nicknack's Writing Schedule · 8:35am Mar 26th, 2013

As you've probably noticed, I'm behind on whatever schedule I either hinted at or explicitly gave for Evening Flames. Since I'm not dead yet, I figured I'd take a few moments to explain the writing projects I'm part of (on top of private reviews and other writing communities that I'm part of).

The first, and the one people here care the most about is Evening Flames. Long story short, I've been trying to keep the chapters "short," failing, but still managing to improve the story. The best example I have to give is from Chapter Six of Evening Flames, which is basically a 1:1 mapping of the timeline and events from Chapter Ten of Summer Days and Evening Flames. The two of them have the same word count of roughly 15k words ("short" chapters my ass), but the new version has a lot more action and angles involved that should, hopefully, make the resolution of all the characters' stories come about easier.

If you're looking for a timeline of when I'm going to release Evening Flames? I plan on rolling out the first chapter in the next few weeks, with weekly updates after that. Since I've written enough of the story where I doubt any sweeping changes or plothole corrections will need to be made, I think this is the best balance between "full author control of the story" and "the audience has had a taste and grows restless."

I mean, fuck, it's been over a year since I posted Chapter Ten of Summer Days and Evening Flames. I hate that. If anything, I've learned that if I ever write anything in the future, I'm not going to release it past my pool of prereaders and reviewers until the whole thing is written. That is neither confirming or denying the continued existence of Solis Bellum or my ability to write an epic-scale adventure story.

The second is probably my favorite form of mental hamstringing that I ever brought upon myself—and I mean that in the best way possible. The winner of my charity auction commission has an interesting sense of humor that is equal parts awe-inspiring and challenging.

I hope to do a good job on this commission because it will prove to myself that I can work with someone else's idea, and I don't mean that as a non-overt form of advertising, either. Overtly, I wouldn't be opposed to taking on some commissions to help bridge the gap between my income and my expenses, if there's any demand for it. At least I'd feel less self-conscious about it than straight-up asking for money.

The third is, quite simply, a writing consultant "job" for a few people I used to hang out with in college. I don't know how to explain it adequately in a blog post about my projects (as this is very much their idea that I'm helping them realize), but it's a nifty idea and I like it. Who knows, maybe when it's done, I'll share a link here some day.

For now, that is "The State of Nicknack's Writing Schedule." If it seems fairly vacant compared to the relative speed at which I'm producing things, I can only apologize and say that if I don't work at my pace, no one is going to be happy with the result.

Thanks for the update! I've been think about HoGFoS and Summer Days lately. I been listening to a couple of songs that remind me of them.

Heart of Gold Feathers of Steel.

Summer Days

Im vibrating at approximately 30hz in anticipation.

It's cool, Evening Flames is worth the wait.

It's worth the wait :ajsmug:

Take as much time as you need. We wouldn't want to rush you.

I had forgotten you were taking part in the fic charity commission. Writing another story would take up a lot of your time. Am I to assume you'll also be posting that here once it's complete? Cause the "interesting sense of humour" has got me intrigued.

In any case, I eagerly await.

Stay strong :rainbowdetermined2:

Whenever you're satisfied enough with your work, I'll be the first one to to yell 'lay it on me, man!' As for the writing project you're putting your hand in with the college buddies, please, drop a link. I'd be more surprised if I didn't like it than if I do. I've gotta say that falling feathers and it's sequels are my favorite Gilda-centric stories, no other stories even come close. I've been chomping at the bit to get my teeth into new material from you for exactly as long as you know it's been, so any news on progress in the story is superdy duper awesometastic news to me. :pinkiehappy:
